Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Trump announces executive order that says legally there are only 2 genders (hmmm did he mis-speak and meant sex?)

Well this will add to the confusion.

Have just heard him use the word gender, even though earlier news reports had said he would say only 2 sexes.

Trump to sign order proclaiming there are only two sexes

Donald Trump's government is set to recognise only two genders, male and female. The move will come as part of a swathe of executive orders the incoming president will sign on his first day back in the White House. It is one of two branded as "common...

I don't know why the left lost. They called women fools for knowing that humans can't change sex, insisted they 'educate themselves' to believe men are women, explained that women's concerns are a non issue. What more could they have done?

This thread really has been a microcosm of the world right now.

Also, Brexit is done. I didn't vote for it but we live in a democracy, and them's the breaks. Get over it. If you don't like democracies, there are other forms of government you could experience.

don’t want to derail the conversation into Brexit but should never have had a referendum. That was the mistake. Referendums are too volatile and too easily subject to populism. I’m a great believer in democracy and making democracy work. but that wasn’t functioning democracy. Most people didn’t understand what they were voting for. Now they see the result. Murdoch won Brexit and now him
and musk are supporting Trump.

and they’re no supporters of women. Don’t get why that’s so hard to understand

Ereshkigalangcleg · 21/01/2025 11:56

I agree that we should never have had the referendum but we did, and that was the result.

That’s right despite not being Adam I haven’t read every single thread on this issue. Have read enough to have a clear picture.
as I said, I don’t agree with going overboard on trans rights but Trump is now pulling too far the other way and he’s not doing it for the sake of women no his presidency won’t improve women’s rights

You said earlier:

Please enlighten me as to the extensive damage to women’s rights caused by trans-rights?

When you confirmed that you were asking a genuine question and you genuinely wanted to know the answer, I posted a link for you to this thread:
https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/3145470-Break-it-down-for-me?page=1

But you don't seem to have gone away and read it. Instead, you're now saying that you've read enough to have a clear picture.

Which is it? Are you genuinely ignorant of the effect of this movement on women's rights, or do you think you know "enough" about it?

Break it down for me? | Mumsnet

Hi all, I am fairly new to the discussion on the impact that transwomen are having on women generally and I want to more fully understand the issues (...

Are you talking about me? Or other posters. Because if me, I never called women fools for knowing people can’t change sex. Or that people should educate themselves to believe men are women, or that women’s concerns are no issue.

I don’t agree with the point of view of that thread. It’s scaremongering about a future where women’s rights are upended by trans rights and mentioning a string of isolated incidents of trans people being sex offenders. I still think this issue is detracting from
thr focus of the real erosion of much more mainstream women’s rights.
and I’m going to encourage leftists to put the trans issue in the back of the queue and just bundle it in within general human rights issues as it rightly should and bring the focus back on the broad scope of women’s rights.

What do you think is the "point of view of that thread"? It was started by someone asking much the same question as you, and answered by a number of people with lots of links to other sites and threads.

It doesn't have a single "point of view".

I was assuming based on your previous posts on this thread that the viewpoint in that thread you are promoting and wanted me to see is the one purporting that trans rights are a danger to women’s rights?

When it comes to twisting words, the left are as bad as the right. "TWAW"; "preferred" pronouns that the left try to coerce us all to use; unilateral redefinition of "woman" and "man", and even "male" and "female"; misrepresentation of the protected characteristics in the Equality Act; the GRA with its "legal sex" nonsense; etc etc.

As a member of the Labour Party, your haranguing is most definitely NOT encouraging me in the slightest to put the trans issue at the back of the queue or to just bundle it up with other stuff.

That's how we ended up in this bloody awful mess of men saying four magic little words "I am a woman" and having people fall for the blatant lie that they could see with their own eyes was a lie.

And you may want to search out Adam's posts. You two would get on well.

t’s scaremongering about a future where women’s rights are upended by trans rights and mentioning a string of isolated incidents of trans people being sex offenders

It’s not a “future”. It’s happened. It’s happening. Women’s rights have already been upended. A “string of isolated incidents” is thousands of incidents upending women’s rights. It’s not just about sex offenders. It’s about every single aspect of life. But you won’t read the threads that explain all this.

That’s not what I claimed and not what I asked. The trans people who are murderers, rapists and paedophiles who are currently in women’s prisons: Trump’s executive order will put a stop to this. Do you think this is a bad thing? Why do you think this is a right that is being taken away?

no but men are by a huge magnitude more likely to be murderers, rapists and paedophiles

and trans women are men

as we keep saying, it’s not about them being trans, its about them being men

btw thanks for allowing us to make all the arguments all over again. I’m sure the lurkers are very interested. As always operation let them speak works a treat

Well we will have to se how the EO will be implemented. But assuming it will take away the right to life saving hormone therapy, and the protection against discrimination for a start. Rapist and paedofiles and murderers should be in high security prisons where they can’t hurt other inmates, men or women. But then we know that inmates in the US live in horrible conditions to begin with and that a disproportional pat of them are black, another inequality we can expect to grow in Trump’s “colour blind US’.

but yes let’s focus on the 0.01 or whatever proportion of trans inmates in women’s prisons.
