Trump announces executive order that says legally there are only 2 genders (hmmm did he mis-speak and meant sex?)

Well this will add to the confusion.

Have just heard him use the word gender, even though earlier news reports had said he would say only 2 sexes.

Trump to sign order proclaiming there are only two sexes

Donald Trump's government is set to recognise only two genders, male and female. The move will come as part of a swathe of executive orders the incoming president will sign on his first day back in the White House. It is one of two branded as "common...

They are real of course. They’re just so few compared to women killed by men, suffering from domestic violence, not having equal pay and in other ways being discriminated against.

but instead of focusing on this, MN are falling right into the right wing trap of focus on trans issues.

Now you've really admitted that you don't know anything about Mumsnet.

Dismissing a concern because it occurs less than other causes for concern is a logical fallacy. It is called relative privation.
Here's a handy link for you to learn about it, and why it's a logical fallacy.

Not as bad as

The "not as bad as" fallacy, also known as the fallacy of relative privation,[2] asserts that:

So the thousands of women negatively affected by:

Prisons
Sport
Single sex spaces
Employment issues
Their children being affected

has passed you by? And you’re proud of this?

Why are you so focused on this issue to the exclusion of much more widespread issues for women such a violence against women, lack of equal pay, lack of funded childcare, lack
of women in power and politics etc etc?

Do you think these are all issues trump will support l?

He's written it into law. Not personally, as he can't string a coherent sentence together. But there is someone on his team who has a full grasp of this and is fully across all the implications.

Okay here is what I think.

we need to recognise trans people and protect their rights. We don’t need all of society to change to accommodate this. We don’t need mixed sex toilets (which I’m against) or trans persons competing in women’s sports (they should have their own category and compete in that). we need to keep the category of women.

parts of the left went too far in trans rights and it’s damaged them politically.

but we need to now look at the reality of a US president who’s firmly anti women’s rights and surrounded by people far more misogynistic than himself. And focus on that.

Who said I am focused on this to the “exclusion” of anything? I am capable of considering it all. You said:

Please enlighten me as to the extensive damage to women’s rights caused by trans-rights?

You didn’t ask relative to other issues. Thousands of women and girls have been negatively affected by trans rights. I think this is “extensive”. Do you not?

Yes, I do.

You haven't read the Executive Order, clearly. Or followed the lawsuits about these issues.

Also, recognising the reality of sex is fundamental to Title IX and Title VII.

Do you support the women's rights I have listed above?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 21/01/2025 09:53

Well yes, hopefully the Democrats will learn from the mistake you admit they made and regroup. I'm sure many people hope that will happen.

Vance seems to be fully across it, if you listen to his Joe Rogan podcast interview.

I’ve seen it. Pay close attention to what the EO says:

“Efforts to eradicate the biological reality of sex fundamentally attack women by depriving them of their dignity, safety, and well-being”

gender equality is not mentioned once. Not once. What does dignity and well being mean? It’s so euphemistic. It can mean anything.

what he wants is to restore women as the weaker sex who needs protection - note the dignity, safety and well being - by big strong men like him and Elon.

next step is go back home, watch the kids and cook and
clean while daddy runs the country.

I’ll protect you from all the dangerous trans people and other men who don’t have the right to control you the way your husbands and fathers do.

citizens of other countries aren’t free to ignore Trump. Yes we have very limited influence ok US
As a peasant in another country I think I can safely say I can. I cannot influence him, I cannot change anything, so I suggest you start emailing and tweeting the American population especially those in position of power. Are you going to do that? Of course not 🙄

peasant have more power than they think if they band together and don’t get divided by populist divide and rule tactics.

womens rights were won by clear eyed women who joined forces. Please see this focus on trans rights for what it is - a diversion for women fighting for our real rights of equality with men.

bigkidatheart · 21/01/2025 10:05

I'm confused - I went to a gender reveal party a few weeks back where they announced they were having a girl

I always associated gender with sex, when I was pregnant I was asked if i wanted to know the gender

The whole worlds gone mad FFS

No Im not. It’s a small
part of the left who focus on this issue. The right took a magnifying glass to this trend and the left wasn’t fast enough at regrouping and putting this issue on the back burner.
it was never the main issue for the democrats or for Labour in this country.

Do you think that might be because that's not what the EO is about?

Defending Women From Gender Ideology Extremism And Restoring Biological Truth To The Federal Government

It's not about 'gender equality'.

You think it’s not about gender equality? Of course it is. Don’t you think that defining what the category of woman, the word woman means, is essentially about trying to take control of gender roles and gender issues widely?

“this unhealthy road is paved by an ongoing and purposeful attack against the ordinary and longstanding use and understanding of biological and scientific terms, replacing the immutable biological reality of sex with an internal, fluid, and subjective sense of self unmoored from biological facts. Invalidating the true and biological category of “woman” improperly transforms laws and policies designed to protect sex-based opportunities into laws and policies that undermine them, replacing longstanding, cherished legal rights and values with an identity-based, inchoate social concept.”

because whose supremacy is threatened by fluid gender categories? Men’s or women’s? This is about resting male supremacy make no mistake

If that’s the case why did Biden sign an executive order on his first day to remove the protections for women and girls in Title IX? Is an executive order from the president “a small part of the left”?

Are the ACLU and Planned Parenthood and other massive organisations campaigning against women’s rights “a small part of the left”?

They don’t. They didn’t make it front and center of their campaign. They just didn’t want to give up when pushed on it, and Trump pushed and pushed on it as he saw the opportunity to attract voters.
