Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Trump announces executive order that says legally there are only 2 genders (hmmm did he mis-speak and meant sex?)

Well this will add to the confusion.

Have just heard him use the word gender, even though earlier news reports had said he would say only 2 sexes.

Trump to sign order proclaiming there are only two sexes

Donald Trump's government is set to recognise only two genders, male and female. The move will come as part of a swathe of executive orders the incoming president will sign on his first day back in the White House. It is one of two branded as "common...

Why are you assuming all women on this forum agree with you?

I've been here for years and I disagree with you.

Do you have to agree with you to be on MN?

Try reading my post properly.

The point is that that posters post makes it clear she doesn’t understand what she writes about, yet feels free to arrogantly patronise those who do.

You can disagree with me all you like, but if it’s coming from a place of ignorant assumption, rather than a position of knowledge, reason and critical thinking, then you’re an arrogant fool not worth listening too. And you’d do well to challenge your own thinking processes instead of exposing yourself as a the type of fool who’s happy to argue on a subject they know little about. People like that just embarrass themselves.

You didn't see Elon do the Nazi salute?

Really???

He's an agitator, a detractor.

It doesn't mean that this executive order isn't good news for women and children.

unmemorableusername · 21/01/2025 09:27

But will Starmer listen & follow suit?

I'm not holding my breath.

I'm confused.

Can you point out where I said teenagers should transition?

And yes, without testosterone his organs would shut down.

Do you think it would be ok to do that to him?

Presumably a woman could come off testosterone gradually to avoid withdrawal symptoms, just like with many other drugs.

I'm just catching up on this thread, and I'm getting this very nauseating vibe. From one poster in particular.

Am I the only one that getting a nasty taste in my mouth over a very "you stupid women are clearly too stupid to understand, and I'm here to try and help you stupid women" vibe?

Talking to women like this on mumsnet is not a good idea in my opinion. It also demonstrates a really backwards view towards what you really think of women. Like are we going to have witch dunkings next? It's not as progressive as you think to assume all women are idiots. Please stop it.

well, I do feel very strongly about the dangers to women’s rights, democracy, world stability and human rights that Trump represents.

maybe I sometimes get too heated and apologies for that.

but trust me, if you were all men I’d have been much less polite!

Id also feel nauseous, if I was realising I was inadvertently praising a demagogue supported by fascists, fascists doing very effective interventions in UK politics this very moment.

I haven’t seen it yet. I’d like to see a video rather than a still.
He may well have. Equally he may well have raised his hand in a triumphant way. I’ve seen a lot of people do that reaching forward, ‘yes!’ action.

I wouldn’t put it past him, as he’s a maverick with no boundaries. We’ll see.

There's a thread on here with the video you can watch.

He does it twice.

There's no mistaking it.

Please enlighten me as to the extensive damage to women’s rights caused by trans-rights?

@leftorrightnow
Your belief that only your views are valid, and that you are here to save women too stupid to know what's good for them is an inherently sexist belief. You clearly think women are lesser beings. It's so cringe and backwards. You are not the saviour messiah you think you are, that's just in your own mind. Calm down a bit and stop being so emotionally knee jerk reactive.
The only thing you are right on is assuming I was talking about you.

I think it’s a tiny narrow issues which been blown out of proportion by the right wing, aided by useful fools in the feminist quarters.

look at the stats. There are hardly any trans people. How many of you have actively in your own lives had ANY issues with trans people? It’s a media created moral panic.

when feminists pay too much attention to it they loose sight of the very real and much more serious threats to women’s rights coming from the very SAME people who are anti trans rights.

Ending up with feminists praising Trump. It’s a master stroke by him, really. embracing your own worst enemy

Have you really missed all the posts on here where posters have talked about their own children getting caught up in this ideology?

Have you really missed all the posts by women whose husbands have suddenly decided they were trans?

Perhaps you should read a few more threads on here before commenting further and showing even more of your ignorance.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 21/01/2025 09:05

So because the left is less than perfect people are excused for choosing a demagogue and convicted criminal who’s actively supporting fascists?

I didn't choose him, maybe direct this at someone who did?

And yes, it seems awareness is belatedly dawning that the left has badly fucked up.

We are discussing Trump even though presumably very few of us had a vote in the US election. I’m directing criticism of people who come on here saying that Trump’s gender EO is a good thing. That’s the conversation we’re having isn’t it?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 21/01/2025 09:36

I have read many of these threads. I maintain it’s a niche issue. I haven’t met anyone who has these issues IRL

i do know people who’s kids are trans and they are fine with this as are the kids.

I don’t know anyone IRL who takes these stances.

equally statistically this is a very small
proportion of the population.

I don’t think only my views are valid on lots of things. I do think I’m right abut trump being a massive step back for women’s rights globally, not just in the US. I’m not ashamed to say that.

So are you claiming that all the posters on here who have talked about their experiences are making it up? Or do you think they're all bots or something?

What about the exponential increase in child referrals to gender clinics? Is that all made up as well?

What about all the employment tribunals and other court cases? Are they not real because you didn't attend?

They haven’t but maybe the alternate reality of MN where trans issues are one of the most important things have passed me by, yes.

Chersfrozenface · 21/01/2025 09:42

We are indeed discussing the Executive Order.

I am not "praising Trump".

I'm pleased about the EO.

I'm going to quote, as a PP has done, its stated purpose.

"Purpose. Across the country, ideologues who deny the biological reality of sex have increasingly used legal and other socially coercive means to permit men to self-identify as women and gain access to intimate single-sex spaces and activities designed for women, from women’s domestic abuse shelters to women’s workplace showers. This is wrong. Efforts to eradicate the biological reality of sex fundamentally attack women by depriving them of their dignity, safety, and well-being. The erasure of sex in language and policy has a corrosive impact not just on women but on the validity of the entire American system. Basing Federal policy on truth is critical to scientific inquiry, public safety, morale, and trust in government itself."

Snowypeaks · 21/01/2025 09:43

@leftorrightnow
When the category of woman is indefinable or includes males, women and girls lose:
The right to female-only services, spaces, opportunities and sport.
The right to freely associate as lesbians.
The right to associate as women.
The rights to privacy, dignity and safety

Among others.

This affects all women. It's huge. Not niche.

They are real of course. They’re just so few compared to women killed by men, suffering from domestic violence, not having equal pay and in other ways being discriminated against.

but instead of focusing on this, MN are falling right into the right wing trap of focus on trans issues.

Prisons
Sport
Single sex spaces
Employment issues
Their children being affected

has passed you by? And you’re proud of this?
