What's so weird about going in the fb group is that Baker is referred to as a woman/she/her and any use of sex-based language is hate speech and harmful, no matter how reasonable.

It's quite terrifying that this is normal to many people now.

Rightsraptor · 18/01/2025 09:29

To me, 'personal abuse' is someone telling me I'm fat, not kidnapping me, torturing & raping me over an extensive period.

Is it their place to forgive Baker? I say not. Forgiveness lies with the person who has been wronged, not a bunch of ditzy strangers.

Hoping that those going to this march today are safe (from traffic, TRAs and troublemakers), that they get to meet interesting people and have informative conversations and that the organisers learn how to do further marches and communicate more honestly and truthfully about what the march is about next time. Had the progress price flag been front and centre in publicity from the very start it would have helped women know what the definition of woman is. And had there been speakers posts that would have also helped.

Being up front about what they mean by the terms bigot and TERF would be illuminating for the future. It feels like the moderate and more GC leads have all stepped back and by stealth it's less and less about women and very centred on the trans.

On the upside some great new members for WRN already.

Yes, plenty new WRN members. I was so glad to come across them. Amazing bunch and they encourage debate and discussion.

This is from the FB page, Edinburgh march. Seems we must idolise rapists.

That's a joke comment though, surely

Surely a joke 🤣 🤣 🤣

NoBinturongsHereMate · 18/01/2025 10:43

I would say 'interpersonal abuse' covers the 'punch a TERF' incident and Twitter spats. The rest comes more under 'extremely violent criminal past'.

teentantrums · 18/01/2025 10:48

Pretty sure the Bryson comment is a joke!

I take your point, but not sure they'd care about the "terf" stuff, would they? Maybe it's the optics idk.

But knowing that lot, my jaw wouldn't exactly drop if she made a show!

Ereshkigalangcleg · 18/01/2025 10:54

I think they're referring to the torture and the prison attempted murder, because they're fucking idiots.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 18/01/2025 10:55

Is he still in prison? It's been a while, maybe he's out by now.

Bryson was sentenced to 8 years imprisonment a little under two years ago, so is unlikely to be out yet.

Anyway, I'm sure we'd have heard.

larklane17 · 18/01/2025 11:01

This is all so messed up that I'm lost for words. Thank you for speaking up and your persistence everyone of you incredible women.

MidLangClegs · 18/01/2025 11:04

Catching up! So SJB has been told he can't speak today and is angry about it?

And they said Savile hid in plain sight…

Retiredfromthere · 18/01/2025 11:19

Just in case anyone was planning to go to the Birmingham march. It was announced cancelled on the 16th March. Reasons was lack of council/police approval. Event has disappeared off the FB group. Hoping this was communicated with those who were going.

Helleofabore · 18/01/2025 11:26

I am never surprised that there are some women who consider Baker to be ‘spokesperson’ worthy.

Didn’t Baker have something to do with the teens who let the crickets out in the LGB Alliance event? And didn’t we see parents celebrating that act?

I would have no doubt at all that there will be a significant cross over between those encouraging teens to camp out in the middle of London and climb buildings to put up flags while asking strangers to ‘watch over’ those teens while celebrating Baker’s involvement in the activism and organising a debacle of a women’s march while including male people who threaten women as being very welcome to participate in the event.

I wouldn’t be surprised also that the same activists who protested at Sarah Everard’s vigil will be heavily involved in the organisation too.

Yes.

Jamfirstest · 18/01/2025 11:37

I am boycotting but I might go down and have a nose.
This bs makes me want to join wrn but quit my union and the tuc. I can't be in these orgs with this anymore.

lifeturnsonadime · 18/01/2025 11:46

I hope everyone stays safe today.

The organisers should hang their heads in shame.
