They are expecting women to walk along with traffic? 😳😳

Yes …so it would see according to their Facebook page…it’s almost as if they don’t want women to turn up after all… I might go along to the Meadows to see what and who turns up. The whole thing is ill conceived and pointless. It’s like they have just picked a date with no rhyme or reason

INeedAPensieve · 17/01/2025 23:10

Thanks for the new thread. Like Arabella, I'm now worrying about the vulnerable women feeling brave enough to go tomorrow and potentially marching with dangerous men. What a shit show.

Livinginaclock · 17/01/2025 23:11

Was it Edinburgh where they were telling Mums with prams they'd have to walk on the road?
That was in one of the groups.

Plenty of photos please. I was lead of Edinburgh for a couple of weeks when it all started but backed out after they were blocking SV and DV victims for speaking up for safe spaces. They were also saying rubbish that men can be pregnant and get abortions 😂😂

I can't say 100% it was Edinburgh as there's a lot of groups but I definitely saw it.

TigerLily40 · 17/01/2025 23:22

Well if they were expecting people to walk near roads it is likely 😂😂

RhannionKPSS · 17/01/2025 23:28

Having been at a lot of rallies , demos , for FWS , vigils and LWS events in the last few years I’ve seen how these events should be organized and coordinated with councils and police etc and this event has nightmare written all over it.

WhoPutTheBomp · 17/01/2025 23:29

Oh my christ at having to walk in the road. Fgs.

I do hope all the events tomorrow are uneventful, iyswim.

Chersfrozenface · 17/01/2025 23:33

It’s like they have just picked a date with no rhyme or reason.

It's to coincide with this year's Women's March in Washington DC, isn't it?

Well, in fact that's been rebranded "the People's March" and even the organisers are only expecting 50,000 attendees - as opposed to the estimated 500,000 at the first one in 2017.

I was only in it a day and they assigned me as lead organiser without any prior experience at all.

Yeah and they act like they have links to it but they have none whatsoever.

Yeah I saw the rebranding too. So what's the point? Of course men need to be part of the conversation but without keeping women (you know, the original ones) centre stage, the messages become watered down and as we see time and time again, men, especially some TW, who thrive on attention, dominate the discussion.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 18/01/2025 01:21

was the UK's longest-serving transgender prisoner

Goodness, why was that then?

I know, just alluding to the obvious point here

Itiscoldout · 18/01/2025 06:00

I will be going to my local march. I want to see it for myself. There are people marching for important things and I hope their voices are heard.
i also want to hear what the non binary speaker actually says
this has also prompted me to apply to join the WRN.

Delphinium20 · 18/01/2025 06:33

As an American, let me add some nuance about what was really the inspiration for the initial Women's March-it wasn't started for abortion rights, it was started in response to Trump being elected despite saying he could grab women by the pussy and do whatever he wanted. I was one of the women from the start who pushed back (with my local group and the national group) when the organizers wanted to ban pro-life women's groups from the march. I'm firmly pro-choice but conservative religious women are women too^^ and they wanted to protest in solidarity against Trump's misogyny.

I also knew that specific kind of anti-abortion women's rights groups and felt that many of them might be swayed to support abortion if they had some healthy conversation with their feminist sisters. Many are young Christian women and may never have faced a dangerous pregnancy nor DV nor poverty. Regardless, they deserved to be there.

The women's march was a groundswell of all kinds of women pushing back against misogyny and I am still wounded that it fell apart due to special interests like anti-Semitism and TRA demands. Telling women what they could and couldn't wear to their own march was what really pushed me over the edge.

Delphinium20 · 18/01/2025 06:34

Sorry, on my phone and the italics kinda had a mind of their own.

cariadlet · 18/01/2025 07:00

Thanks for the insight @Delphinium20

Yes and women who raised concerns about their children being in the presence of this man were blocked.
I certainly wouldn't bring myself and especially not my children to this but not everyone will know what has happened. They have just put women and children at risk.

For the love of fuck.

So now instead of inviting a convicted violent and disturbed man to the march as speaker, they're facing a convicted, violent, disturbed and pissed off man at the march, while failing to tell women?

Many of whom will be survivors of SA and DV, and some of whom will have children with them.

At least there will be police there.

ArabellaScott · 18/01/2025 07:23

Livinginaclock · 17/01/2025 23:07

I have the screenshots of them ignoring the fact that children are going.
They deleted the posts.

Reprehensible.

It's sending me a bit potty because I could have sworn that the second statement gave a nauseating blurb on the women's march strive for inclusivity of the LGBTQXYZ... whilst 'sacking' SJB because 'they didn't know'.

Here it is with his response

What do they mean by SJB's criminal background in personal abuse? Is that a way of referring to SJB kidnapping a 19 year old boy holding him prisoner for 3 days while torturing and sexually assaulting him?

I was told the London organisers knew about SJB's history but had forgiven him - how kind they are

I was just about to quote that very same phrase, Chrysanthemum5.
They make it sound like a Masters subject.
I suppose you could describe it as an area of his expertise which he is keen to explore further, so...
