This isn't about letting men into women's spaces.
I am not advocating for letting men into women's spaces. I do not want that.
It has never been about letting men into women's spaces for the far right.
It has been about using trans people as a wedge issue to dismantle successful coalition-building efforts against them.
Divide and conquer. We are easier to destroy bite by bite. Each part of the whole that is lost weakens the whole.
It's worked unbelievably well. They've just resoundingly won in the US. They did it by using your words against you. Now they get to brutalise all of us. That was the plan. They outright said it back in 2017. We warned it was happening. We kept saying that it was happening. We were accused of being hyperbolic. Rowling jumped aboard the bandwagon in 2019. We begged her not to. She saw that as a license to escalate and go full mask-off.
We kept saying that a fire was starting. That the house would soon be on fire. That we would all burn.
Now the house is on fire.
The fire is winning. There isn't really any point in saying we told you so, other than to shake you into realisation that yes, the house is indeed on fire and perhaps we should do something about it. We're trying not to scream as we stand in the fire trying to keep the roof from collapsing and beg for help.
Offering us ointment and painkillers against the fire when our flesh is still burning isn't going to solve anything. Nor is blaming one another for starting it.
We need to fight the fire.
