Could we ban "transvestigating" threads on here?

This one for example. Transvestigating is an informal term given to when people play detective and try to determine if a given person (usually a woman) is transgender or not from how they look e.g. photos.

I've seen it more than a few times on Twitter anytime a woman who is tall or muscular or "masculine looking" appears. Quite often, women are wrongly mistaken for being trans.

As well as being transphobic, IMO this harms all women and reinforces stereotypes of what men/women should look like. And the idea of obsessing over people's appearances like this just doesn't sit well with me.

But the reality is that the only choice is between going through puberty or not going through puberty.

But it isn’t a choice to not go through puberty; it is a choice to go through puberty or to be given a serious drug induced disease that disrupts a whole host of developmental and other processes within the body including the brain. These drugs don’t simply mean you ‘don’t go through puberty’.

illinivich · 11/12/2024 16:27

I suspect Streeting is asking 'what would Starmer do?' about any political decision, and doing the exact opposite. Probably a good move.

Or he just wants to crush the dreams of children.

I really think its primarily a financial decision - if a government commission a report on à medical pathway and it concludes that its dodgy as fuck, politicians arent going to want to deal with the consequences years later. They dont want to be a prime mister having to explain to a committee why they ignored a report.

ButterflyHatched · 11/12/2024 15:11

Well done. What a resounding victory it is to ban healthcare for desperate children.

Streeting even had the temerity to meet in secret with many of the children whose future hopes he was about to crush forever. I wonder if he was able to look them in the eye while they tearfully begged him not to destroy their futures.

Why did a ‘secret meeting’ need to be arranged? Who decided it should happen in secret? Was it Streeting, or a was it the Transactivist org that arranged the meeting?

Getting kids to do the campaigning, despite the obvious negative impact on their mental and social wellbeing (‘tearfully begging’) seems incredibly exploitative to me.

It reminds me of Climate Activists encouraging Greta Thurnberg to drop out of education to travel the world to guilt trip politicians (who are rightly reluctant to engage in robust debate with a minor due to a recognition that children aren’t just small adults and need to be safeguarded appropriately).

If Streeting’s meeting was with health care professionals working in the paediatric gender medical field it wouldn’t need to be secret and if it were with adults no children would be reduced to tearful begging a government minister.

This is such an important point.
Also, if you miss your puberty window it is lost forever. You can't change your mind at a later date and then go through the puberty you should have started years earlier

Trans activists will point to the fact that 99% of children who take puberty blockers go on to take cross sex hormones as evidence that it was the right treatment. But it's far more likely that the puberty blockers simply made the outcome a foregone conclusion.

Puberty is scary and uncomfortable. Most children going through puberty feel that they are in a stranger's body. No child wakes up one day and thinks, "I think I'm ready to go through puberty now." It's a time when you feel awkward and self conscious about your hoarse, squeaky voice, your first periods, your budding breasts which get unwanted attention from boys and are so painful if someone so much as accidentally nudges them.

But, to paraphrase my toddler's current favourite book, "We can't go over it, we can't go under it, oh no! We've got to go through it!"

The only way out is through.

Which is why children who take puberty blockers remain in a perpetual state of avoidance and terror which only deepens as their peers start to come through the other side and they're still left where they started.

DrBlackbird · 11/12/2024 16:40

Listening to those video clips @ChaChaChooey and I’m just thinking… men, it’s all men. Sigh. So sick of these men pretending that our female bodies and lives are something to pick up or put down according to their whim.

Valeriekat · 11/12/2024 16:43

Not sure if it is transphobic but it is certainly misogynistic.

Sorry, to clarify, it's a choice between going through puberty or not going through puberty AND having a whole host of severe and damaging side effects.

And their brains do not undergo the maturation process that puberty brings, making them even less well-equipped to make life-altering decisions about hormones and surgery

Well if Streeting carries on like this some of us might even consider voting Labour again. You should be pleased about that since you are so concerned about the rise of the right

You're quite right. Let's defeat the far right by achieving their goals.

I see that the big guns have been wheeled out.

Trans people were the first and main target of the Nazis!

A lie wrapped up in deceit, with a pretty garnish of bullshit. And still no links to demonstrate gangs of berserk middle aged ladies, savagely intimidating and thrashing poor, meek transw.

I wonder why that could be?

Butters is selective with the Butters version of persecution.

It was male homosexuality that was a crime in Nazi Germany and Austria

Transvestitism, as it was called then, was not included in the revised Penal Code of 1935. Lady dressing was quite the Nazi thing, particularly for the Wehrmacht. There's a whole book of pictures of them.

Clearly that makes things difficult for you.

If Wes Streeting met children who ‘tearfully begged him not to destroy their futures’ then I hope he took a moment to realise that this distress is a result of the harms of allowing trans lobbyists in schools, on the BBC and on the internet and will do something about stopping them too.

Of course. As you well know, the initial cohorts of patients at the GIDS - which includes myself - were time travellers.

Ah, so you are saying you took drugs that prevented your brain maturing? That might explain some things.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 11/12/2024 17:03

Still amazed to see an adult demanding that children receive untested for purpose medication and so openly displaying a complete lack of understanding of child psychology, development and safeguarding.
It's a clear demonstration of how children are used by adults for their own purposes. Let's hope the government continue removing these people from being able to influence all aspects of child healthcare.

Yes, the total inability to see things from any other point of view than ones own and the lack of critical thinking skills are very childlike.

An adult who received this treatment as a child decades before you even knew it existed, let alone what it was called, and has firsthand experience of its effects - unlike every single other person on this thread who is busy minimising and laughing at the suffering of gender dysphoric children.

Christ alive.

Oh please, she is hardly the originator of modern reactionary transphobia - she was decidedly late to that party - though she did make it a lot more politically palatable and serve to significantly extend its reach.

She's not the originator of any kind of transphobia, she just reminded her 14 million Twitter followers that it's totally fine for the female half of the population not to want to sacrifice their own rights and needs for the sake of a tiny, aggressive, powerful minority of male people, who despite their claims, are not remotely opposed or marginalised in the UK in the 2020s.

Moving on to attack vector C I see. By all means, go right ahead. I mean, we've already covered calling me a rapist, a liar, hyperbolic, appropriative, insensitive and narcissistic alongside the usual No True Scotsmans and a nice little dash of holocaust denial for good measure. Why not get the whole set? There's so much left to play for.
