This one for example. Transvestigating is an informal term given to when people play detective and try to determine if a given person (usually a woman) is transgender or not from how they look e.g. photos.

I've seen it more than a few times on Twitter anytime a woman who is tall or muscular or "masculine looking" appears. Quite often, women are wrongly mistaken for being trans.

As well as being transphobic, IMO this harms all women and reinforces stereotypes of what men/women should look like. And the idea of obsessing over people's appearances like this just doesn't sit well with me.

Crikey. Who knew that women wanting to pee in privacy would destroy democracy.

That's a bloody superpower, that is

I'm pretty sure we wouldn't have fought so hard to be allowed to participate in democracy if our goal was to destroy it.

Reminds me of that zen koan - if a male pees in the ladies toilet and there's no woman there to validate his urinary choices does he even exist?

Depends whether he posted it on BlueSky

Ereshkigalangcleg · 11/12/2024 14:45

If transwomen learnt to respect women and stay out of our spaces, we wouldn't feel suspicion about the people in them. Trans people forcing their way into where they don't belong is what is making us fight back. Transvestigating is caused 100% by trans people so only trans people can stop it.

In a nutshell. Perfectly put.

TWETMIRF · 11/12/2024 14:46

Men are pissing all over women's fight to piss in private.

He probably filmed himself doing it and posted it online

In the UK Evangelical Christians are a persecuted minority.

This is true; the UK's strain of reactionary transphobia has been well documented as having largely discarded its theological aspect and aligned itself more closely with the part of New Atheism that embraced right wing populism and dedicated itself to an evangelical war on 'political correctness'.

Word salad.

The "UK's strain of reactionary transphobia" is nothing more than women saying no.

I credit it in large part to JK Rowling, the epicentre of modern feminism, and also to the fact that British people, whilst generally kind and tolerant, are particularly averse to bullshit.

Says someone who has no idea what evangelical Christian’s believe but still feels free to persecute them.

Unlike women, religion is a protected characteristic for hate crimes.

This is what women are fighting for and why the OP and others get so much push back. Today the government has announced that puberty blockers will be permanently banned. Wes Streeting (Health Secretary) explained :

"Children’s health care must always be evidence-led. The independent expert Commission on Human Medicines found that the current prescribing and care pathway for gender dysphoria and incongruence presents an unacceptable safety risk for children and young people.
“Dr Cass’s review also raised safety concerns around the lack of evidence for these medical treatments. We need to act with caution and care when it comes to this vulnerable group of young people, and follow the expert advice. "

This is why women will never shut up or obey those insisting we bow to the demands of transactivists

Are you trying to make the Holocaust about trans people?

What was on the truck that departed on the 6th of May 1933 from outside the Institute for Sex Research and travelled to the Opelplatz to deposit its cargo for burning?

What are these books about?

Yes, the UK is the home of Swift (I know he was Anglo-Irish), Private Eye and Have I Got News For You.

It is not right wing "reactionary transphobia" to look at Isla Bryson's pink cock-bulge, listen to Nicola Sturgeon gasp and flail furiously when asked if Isla is a man or a woman and conclude that we're being taken for idiots.

On that subject, was it awfully right wing to notice Isla's cock? Or were we supposed to politely pretend we couldn't see it? Were journalists "transvestigating" when they uncovered that poor, marginalised Isla had been making young girls on a beautician course horribly uncomfortable?

Magnus Hirschfeld was both gay and Jewish.

Can you name more than five "transgender" victims of the Holocaust?

Oh please, she is hardly the originator of modern reactionary transphobia - she was decidedly late to that party - though she did make it a lot more politically palatable and serve to significantly extend its reach.

Oh yes, that was awful, and more evidence, if any is needed, that women and girls need to be able to trust their instincts and call out abuse without having to consider men's "identities".

WarmingClothesontheRadiator · 11/12/2024 15:07

Still getting my head around the suggestion that evangelical Christians are aligning their beliefs with atheists…

Please stop using the word transphobia. No one here has a phobia about trans people. We are actually standing up for women's rights.

Does anyone else get the impression that Wes Streeting has been thinking, "Stop the trans train, I want to get off" for quite some time now?

He's seized the Cass report the way a man overboard seizes a life raft.

Well done. What a resounding victory it is to ban healthcare for desperate children.

Streeting even had the temerity to meet in secret with many of the children whose future hopes he was about to crush forever. I wonder if he was able to look them in the eye while they tearfully begged him not to destroy their futures.

Agreed - and suspect he's not alone. There's still an extremist wing who will shriek and wail about the concept of safeguarding children - we've repeatedly seen them in action. But once they step away and look at the facts, the gaslighting of children on an industrial scale to believe their bodies are wrong becomes evident. As does the harm caused by untested drugs and brutal surgery.

Being where the buck stops is quite a wake up call for politicians.

Well if Streeting carries on like this some of us might even consider voting Labour again. You should be pleased about that since you are so concerned about the rise of the right

Great point. Isn't that good news!

TWETMIRF · 11/12/2024 15:19

Not banning health care, banning a treatment option that has been proven to harm children. We know that most children who think they are trans become happy in their body if supported to go through puberty naturally. Puberty blockers are very nasty and are used for the bare minimum time for precocious puberty due to this. A small number of children may feel that the harms are worth it when they become adults but that's no reason to harm the many who's gender distress will be relieved by being allowed to mature.

Peter Tatchell says he knows a boy who had a sexual relationship with a man when he was 9 years old and doesn't feel it has harmed him. That doesn't mean we should allow paedophilia on the off-chance that some of the victims won't mind when they are older.
