I think it will harm the cause tbh as gender critical beliefs will become associated with right wing extremism.
Standing up for trans rights will be a way to show that you are not like trump et al.

We’ve already reached the point where people don’t care how those they see as left wing extremists label them. TRAs and their progressive hangers on had long argued that acceptance was growing thanks to greater visibility, and those who were against their more batshit ideas were just some sort of ultra right wing minority who should either be ignored or denounced in the strongest terms, that young people were so much more enlightened and embracing of the gender woo.
They’ve been proven very, very wrong on all counts.

Yes this is my hope.

35%. But still not a great endorsement. They got in because the Tories were dogshit. No room for silly niche policies. They have to deliver on housing, schools , health. Nationalise the railways. The End

Notaflippinclue · 07/11/2024 19:36

Niche? Get away with you - got a house - no kids at school - pretty healthy and don't use the railways - so it's pretty high on my list - I can't be the only one

TooBigForMyBoots · 07/11/2024 19:42

I don't think it will impact the UK at all.

Starmer and Streeting are already on the case here. Hopefully the Tory trans shitshow has died with the previous, failed government.

There’s been a massive overreach from TRAs because acceptance isn’t growing. This survey is from 2 years ago - a sizeable chunk of Democrats were uneasy about gender identity in schools, intervention on children even then. Most people opposed trans women (men) in women’s sport.

It’s interesting because the 45-60 something demographic went for Trump. High turnout of women in this age group was interpreted as women supporting Harris but it seems it was the other way around.

Kara Dansky maintains that women’s spaces, sport and the repudiation of gender ideology in schools is very important to a lot of Democratic women, and that the Democrats fucked up, basically.

Americans’ Complex Views on Gender Identity and Transgender Issues

Most favor protecting trans people from discrimination, but fewer support policies related to medical care for gender transitions; many are uneasy with the pace of change on trans issues.

Just read this about what's going on in Germany.

If Trump can reign this in, I'm in.

Can't see how this will affect the UK. We are already implementing the Cass Report and should continue to do so.

Amused to see how the usual suspects who were insisting that the issue would cost Labour the General Election have now moved on smoothly to telling us what they "must" do in order not to lose the next one.

This is a pile of crap though - suspect it will be as effective as Clause 28 however.

As part of our new credentialing body for teachers, we will promote positive education about the nuclear family, the roles of mothers and fathers, and celebrating rather than erasing the things that make men and women different and unique.

What's with the 'usual suspects' stuff. Are pro Labour posters and posts this?

Why not quote the post you are referring to instead and say why you disagree

Generation X. Take us for granted at your peril.

I think trump is horrendous and am dismayed he got elected. But we are where we are. I won't cry about it online or irl.

Hopefully he'll be good on the topic at hand : we will see.

Overall, I fear his administration will be disasterous for many reasons, but again, we'll see.

I actually gave up on the board for a while because I got so tired of people just spouting the same lines about how Labour weren't going to win the election because of the trans issue, Keir Starmer was going to be asked "what is a woman" over and over again, Labour Losing Women etc etc etc.

And if you tried to point out politely that Labour were way ahead in the polls, that the issue was way down the priority list for voters, that Starmer had adopted an (admittedly rather vague) policy that was broadly in line with voters' own rather vague position you just got told again and again variants of the above.

And of course Labour won a landslide which I assumed (wrongly) might make people a bit less confident in asserting what Starmer ought to be doing and the terrible consequences if he doesn't.

BezMills · 07/11/2024 20:59

Yeah you just couldn't move for posters convinced of a clapped out tory government, polling through the floor, with a talent free zone of a front bench, winning the GE. Every other post. Eyeroll.

What I remember, more, was endless posts and threads about how we better vote for starmer because reasons. Okay to be fair it did break up the tedium of reddit plopins telling us off.

So you're having a go at posts / posters from pre GE?

Why not address posts on this thread as they stand

The 'usual suspects' stuff could be lobbed at pro Starmer posters, but how does it help?

What's the plan?

Arrest parents for using their child's preferred pronouns if they don't match their biological sex?

Ditto teachers?

Or take children into the social care system and tell them they don't really have gender dysphoria until they agree or age out of the system?

Is that a joke? Yes much better than arresting parents for trying to protect their children from being permanently mutilated on a childhood whim! 😳

peanutbuttertoasty · 07/11/2024 21:43

I would be delighted if all those teachers groomers were arrested for transing kids in secret

Notaflippinclue · 07/11/2024 21:52

Yes - yes and yes if that's what it takes - you obviously have no perception of the damage to the mental health and vulnerable young bodies of these children

CheeseChamp · 07/11/2024 21:57

I can't see him getting laws like this through. The sexual mutilation stuff will get snarled up in debates about circumcision. It would take years to write laws of this nature that impact on the medical sector and across all states. The president doesn't have that much power in reality, and the senate and house aren't going to rush anything through for him. He will start to fuck up pretty quickly and there will be republicans who won't vote for his stuff. Let's hope I'm wrong!

peanutbuttertoasty · 07/11/2024 21:59

Nice if they banned non-medically required circumcision whilst they’re at it!

I agree that legislation will have to be specific in what it outlaws but that’s an issue that legal scholars can assist with.

The Republicans are on track to win majorities in both the Senate and the House of Representatives so if a Republican President has a legislative agenda this is going to be a good time for him to get things done.

Christinapple · 07/11/2024 23:31

The article is almost 2 years old, and he's had 4 years at being president before.

"I would be delighted if all those teachers groomers were arrested for transing kids in secret"

What does 'transing a kid' mean?

Is this a reference to the surgeries that Trump thinks are happening in public schools 😂

Who's arresting parents for 'protecting their children from being permanently mutilated'

Notaflippinclue · 07/11/2024 23:55

Parents in Indiana were having their children taken into care for not affirming their gender I believe
