I know Tegan McGhee is not a sympathetic character but rape and threats of rape should never be part of the prison process.

No indeed. But there is a chunk of the electorate who think prisoners of any stripe have forfeited all their rights. The blame for this nightmare doesn't rest with these convicts , however wicked or unhinged they are , but with those idiots and poseurs in the Irish government and civil service.

elgreco · 25/10/2024 13:48

I bet you he isn't threatening to rape any of the male murderers of children he is currently incarcerated with.

I don't really understand what this issue is. Is it because it's a male threatening to rape a woman? If it was a woman threatening to hurt a woman this wouldn't make news.

RocketPanda · 25/10/2024 14:25

@Member869894 BK has a history of violence against women and has threatened to rape other women before. BK is male. Thanks to self ID in Ireland BK was housed in a women's prison. Where BK again threatened to rape an inmate and a prison guard.

I did wonder, when I updated the GRA amendment thread on Tuesday, if I should start a new thread about the trial, but I wasn’t sure (remembering previous non-coverage) how/if that would work 🫤

So of course I just updated that one again before seeing this 🤦‍♀️

The Irish Times (cóip chartlannaithe) is a wee bit less forthcoming than The Irish Independent in their reporting of the trial, so if you don’t want to know the actual threats made, stick to the former. Looks as if someone is fibbing - & I don’t think it’s the prison officers.
At least multiple outlets are reporting this go round (eg RTÉ, The Irish Mirror & of course Gript). If you’re on TwiX, The Countess has people at Limerick Circuit Court to report on the trial.

(Ooh, hyperlinks now [seem to?] copy across! Will leave the link to thread in case they don’t because I need to get some sleep not mess about ensuring the 8 links in question all work, sorry).

Reading the reports you linked to Nitro shows me that this man has rationalisations for everything but I’m not sure his argument of ‘I couldn’t actually carry out my threats because I’m under lock and key for 22 hours a day’ is a very convincing sign that he’s not a threat.

The fact that any woman who does something he doesn’t like gets a disgusting rape threat (often very detailed) shows this man is a threat to women and enjoys using sexually violent imagery to terrify them.

Given that he has previously attacked women (and tried to pull off his social worker’s eyelids), and given that he shows no actual remorse just rationalisations and proffers excuses from his bad childhood (like the men from Gisèle Pelicot’s trial) I don’t think he’ll ever be safe to be around women.

He also seems to enjoy using his legal status as a self-declared woman to confound the legal/justice system by asking for special considerations during trials, and reporting from trials, and as another rationalisation for why he threatens to rape with an implement.

maltravers · 25/10/2024 15:45

I don’t see why women inmates or officers should accept being terrified by this man’s degrading and frightening comments, just because it’s difficult for him to carry out his threats. Why is this criminal’s mental comfort important and theirs is not?

MarieDeGournay · 25/10/2024 20:14

Acquitted?? WTF!

I can't think why, because he seems to have pretty much admitted saying everything he was accused of saying.
It may be that he made threats that he had no possibility of carrying out as he was not allowed to mix in the general population, so it was trash-talking rather than threatening to actually commit a crime. But it was still disturbing and frightening for the targets of his hatred.
It'll be fascinating to see what informed opinion has to say about this.
To a layperson like me, it's shocking.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 25/10/2024 20:26

It's shocking. He is known to be a credible threat to women, hence the isolation from other inmates etc. That officer has every right to be worried about him getting out. He absolutely would hunt her down and harm her. I hope he's moved to a secure mental facility and kept there forever. There doesn't seem to be any hope of rehabilitation for him. And I do have a degree of sympathy in that he must have suffered the most horrific experiences during childhood (sone of which has been documented) but he is so so dangerous he needs to be kept away from people and women/girls in particular.

HerGorgeousMajestyArabellaScott · 25/10/2024 20:47

I'm not 100% sure of your point but I agree if a woman had made this threat she would probably, at worst, been dealt with using the disciplinary procedures within the prison. It just demonstrates that no-one believes twaw.

That said, the verdict does beggar belief.

Wimbledonmum1985 · 25/10/2024 21:47

And that horrendous photo they use of him. It is incredibly disturbing.

lcakethereforeIam · 25/10/2024 21:49

There must be other photos. That one does serve to obscure his identity though.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 25/10/2024 22:02

I hope it will at least shine a light on the absurdity of our Self ID legislation. If someone so obviously dangerously deranged as him can change his legal sex simply by completing a form and paying a small fee then clearly there's a huge issue that needs to be addressed. People will hopefully question how?? Did he not have to be evaluated at all? Or examined by a doctor? Or meet certain criteria? And when they realise that actually he didn't have to do anything at all other than sign his name, maybe this ridiculous law can be repealed.

You don't think it's shocking that a man who pretended to be a woman was taken at his word and allowed to serve his sentence (for violence against women) in a female prison, went on to threaten to rape and sexually assault a fellow inmate and a prison guard, while still pretending to be a woman? And even though women don't threaten to rape other women, people still have to pretend he is female, and refer to him as such. Nothing strange or shocking there at all?

VERDICT

And.......the Irish justice system strikes again!

God forbid Irish judges take threats and violence against women and girls seriously.

DumDeeDoh · 26/10/2024 00:29

Everyone in that trial know BK is a man and so they are all lying in the trial calling him a women. The RTE reports don't mention trans and say Miss BK was tried and acquitted. It is disgusting. Literally no one, not even BK thinks he is a woman. How can anything be believed if you are not allowed say what is in front of you.

StrongFemaleCharacter · 26/10/2024 00:59

I can't believe he got off. He bloody well admitted it! But - anxiety, emotional, transphobia blah blah blah. He's a very dangerous individual. If this man finds a way to get to these women he will do exactly as he has threatened. When is he likely to be released?

kkloo · 26/10/2024 01:26

Isn't part of the reason he's in jail because he threatened to rape his own mother?
I'm refusing to call this man a woman seeing as he loves to threaten to rape women.
And I'm not sure why the trans rights crowd would even want us to. If he thinks he's a woman he wouldn't be going around threatening to rape any woman who he wants to scare.

It's absolutely shameful that he's allowed in a womens prison.

UtopiaPlanitia · 24/10/2024 14:07

The Irish Govt and the justice system by allowing self-declared change of ‘sex’ have tied their own hands with regards to being able to effectively deal with this monster and others like him.

The prisoner is constantly telling officials what he will do if he’s kept in the female prison estate, and what he will do if he’s released, and yet I have no confidence that the justice system will do enough to protect women and girls from him. I have no confidence that he will be kept in any form of state detention be it in the prison system or in psychiatric care.

I mean, how much more does he have to say and do to get the State to realise he’s not safe to be allowed near women and girls?!? There’s no rehabilitating a man like this.

It's terrifying.

On the plus side, if he is released, he could not look any more scary if he were dressed as an evil clown and carrying a chainsaw, so he won't be able to charm any unsuspecting victims into letting their guard down.

If memory serves me correctly, Kardashian was evaluated while in juvenile care. Another teenager identified as trans and Kardashian became friends with this person. I think Kardashian was around 16 at the time. Kardashian was evaluated, possibly in Tavistock, I can't be certain, but the evaluation cast doubt on Kardashian's sincerity saying that the answers given appeared rehearsed.
But as soon as Kardashian turned 18 the evaluation was irrelevant as Kardashian was able to avail of Self ID where no checks or balances are required. Checks and balances are, of course, transphobic.

He says he snapped and said it in anger yet also went into great detail of how he wanted to punish and torture the women concerned that show he has and still does spend time thinking about it. There is a post by miri on the craicnet thread that gives much more info on what he said in court (yet was still acquitted) for those that can stomach it. The justice system has failed women yet again - prisoners, prison officers and those who come into contact with him in the future have been shown that won't be supported and protected.

FallinUltra · 26/10/2024 08:54

His mother has been hidden by the police for years, as his threats to rape, mutilate and kill her as soon as he got released last time were deemed entirely credible.

Will that have to happen with all the women he threatens? It will become a considerable number over the years.
