I've said it several times, the gender critical movement harms all women. Any women who doesn't meet the criteria of what a woman "should look like" is at risk of being wrongly accused of being trans.

Also makes me wonder about that other thread about FWSSport. If a woman with alopecia plays sport with other women are people who are gender critical going to mistake her as a man and report her to FWSSport who will store data on her?

I am not convinced that the ‘woman with alopecia’ isn’t actually a ‘man with male pattern balding, who imagines he is in some way a woman’.

Well no, seeing as I never wear make up myself, don't really want us to be arrested,😳😁

😮But how can anyone tell you're a woman if you never wear makeup? That's how we're supposed to identify women isn't it?

Ozanj · 13/10/2024 16:36

This 100% didn’t happen. Fucking liars.

Yes, I thought bright lipstick and a dress, false eyelashes and long pink nails?

I agree.

Yes the ‘GC movement’ harms women because everyone who speaks up gets abused, assaulted, cancelled, threatened, sacked, sent death threats etc… It speaks volumes about who the other side are and what values they stand for. GC is the only rational and sane stance though…

Why?
Are you going to go say that to the GC poster on the thread who said it happened to them in the past too?
Or is that to be believed more because they're "GC?"
Or the others who have said it's happened to them?

Namechangeforadhd · 13/10/2024 16:43

What I hate about this sort of extremely rare (if it's true at all) event being used to criticise GC women, is that it will make some women more scared of questioning men. It's already frightening to stand up to a man who is likely to be bigger, stronger and more aggressive. Add to that the concern that you could be wrong and upset someone, and the number of women who will stay silent rises even more. This is the typical 'women must be kind at all costs' playbook.

AliasGrace47 · 13/10/2024 16:44

I think people are being a bit disingenuous in denying that an actual woman would ever be challenged in a woman's loo. On the subreddits for butch lesbians there are lots of credible accounts of women being aggressively challenged in women's bathrooms. Often though this is in more rural or conservative US communities where the standard for female is quite hyperfeminine, & the women may just be being homophobic rather than actually thinking butch lesbians are men. I've heard of women who do mistake them for men at first glance, but personally I can't imagine making that mistake. This can't be blamed on the GC movement, it's a combo of sexism, lesbophobia & justified self ID panic imo. However, I don't sympathise w butch lesbians who actively try & pass as male or take T & then have this issue. If they're trying to be taken for a man, rather than a masculine woman, then this is going to instinctively frighten women in the loos. These are a minority ofc, most butch women are sympathetic to female struggles & are often threatened by men themselves. I think a minority are treated as 'one of the boys' , & are lucky enough to escape male threats, so then find it hard to understand why women are scared of a convincingly male-passing woman. But these are a tiny minority.
The lady w alopecia has probs been v unlucky. She shouldn't be dismissed as a liar, women can be horrible ofc, but I suspect it was nastiness rather than actually taking her for a man. Or poss it was a frightened woman, poss traumatised or scared of self ID, which is the fault of the TRAs.

Hang on Tufu, I was hoping we could talk about what you believe, what your argument is with respect to the OP pf this thread.

I've presented the straw man based on your statement that 'GC beliefs harm all women', that you believe the harm experienced by a woman with no hair being challenged in the ladies is greater than the harm experienced by women who were locked up in Bronzefield with the rapist Martin Ponting (who also likes to be called Jessica Winfield).

Is that your position?

Beekeepingmum · 13/10/2024 16:47

So because Sinead O'Connor is known bald and she looks like a women, all bald women look like women. There can't possibly be women who would look like men when bald presumably being judged from behind.

This.

Balloonhearts · 13/10/2024 16:49

The gender critical movement as you call it, would not even exist if men were not invading female spaces pretending to be women.

KohlaParasaurus · 13/10/2024 16:54

Whether or not this happened, and I believe that it could have, it doesn't make it acceptable for adult males, however they choose to identify, to be in women's public toilets.

MondayYogurt · 13/10/2024 16:54

Maybe we need to have alopecia awareness month and alopecia day of visibility. I’m serious.

To those who deny that this happened, this is Lindsay's X page:

She is an ultra marathon runner, alopecia advocate and all-round good egg. If she says it happened then it happened. I feel very sorry for her. There are no excuses for the woman who gave her shit and she should hang her head in shame.

TWETMIRF · 13/10/2024 15:06

If men didn't keep insisting on barging their way into women's spaces then women wouldn't be suspicious.

Not wanting someone with a penis in women's sport or bathrooms is nothing to do with the fact that some idiot allegedly mistook a bald woman for a bloke. It doesn't even sound that plausible because women's bodies look different to mens, not just the crown of their head?

I don't deny it happened. I am sorry that it happened to her. However, I think it's one of these unfortunate situations where a person behaves in an irrational way, nothing to do with being gender critical or anything else, more to with lack of support for mental health problems.

heathspeedwell · 13/10/2024 17:00

Women's skulls are significantly different to men's. In real life the male brow and jaw line tend to indicate sex at a glance.

I think there are a lot of men with fetishes who love to pretend that women can't tell what sex people are, but in reality women very rarely get it wrong.

I can absolutely tell, at a glance. I wonder if we're hard wired to?

StaunchMomma · 13/10/2024 17:02

I genuinely worry about this for myself.

I'm losing my hair thanks to Graves disease and am not what anyone would class as 'pretty' or particularly feminine.

I look in the mirror and see lank, awful hair and think - you look like a man.
I put a wig or hair piece on, look in the mirror and think - you look like a man in a wig.

If this happened to me in public I'd be absolutely devastated.

People are too quick to jump on others these days.

TheBrickHare · 13/10/2024 17:02

Depending on the area I think it’s very probably for a more masculine woman to be challenged on their use of single sex spaces. The women doing the challenging aren’t gender critical though, they’re usually homophobic extreme conservatives or, oddly enough in my experience TRA’s who seem to recognise that they’re confronting a woman but have decided the woman should be a trans man. Either way without knowing more about the woman who was doing the confronting all of this is speculation based on the eroding of women’s rights by TRA’s.

I also worry if the lighting is bad, I’m in a bad mood or do my eyebrows badly. The reality is I don’t look anything like a man. I look like someone with heavy features who has done their make up badly- and we associate that with men.

No one would actually mistake me for a man, no matter how upsetting I find my features as I age.

DoTheDinosaurStomp · 13/10/2024 17:05

I don't believe this happened.
