I've said it several times, the gender critical movement harms all women. Any women who doesn't meet the criteria of what a woman "should look like" is at risk of being wrongly accused of being trans.

Also makes me wonder about that other thread about FWSSport. If a woman with alopecia plays sport with other women are people who are gender critical going to mistake her as a man and report her to FWSSport who will store data on her?

I find it highly improbable that a woman without hair has been mistaken for a man. We've all seen women with alopecia and those undergoing cancer treatment. They still present - very obviously - as women.
Whatever happened was clearly to do with something else entirely.

TWETMIRF · 13/10/2024 15:06

If men didn't keep insisting on barging their way into women's spaces then women wouldn't be suspicious.

Edited for typo

wrongthinker · 13/10/2024 15:07

I feel like this didn't happen. Women still look like women even if they don't have hair. I would challenge a male in the women's bathroom, but not without being 100% sure he was male. I suspect this either didn't happen or the woman accusing her was just totally bonkers.

Corinthiana · 13/10/2024 15:07

Yes, @wrongthinker , I'm inclined to think it was one of those weird situations.

I agree.

Precipice · 13/10/2024 15:08

If any movement has led to this (single reported incident), it is the gender self-ID movement. If you have a movement that says that private sex-segregated places are no longer split by sex, but by internal self-identification (on the basis of sexist stereotypes, since they're not on biology), you're saying to women: there will be men in your spaces. This puts women on guard for... men in their spaces.

PriOn1 · 13/10/2024 15:08

Source?

Most women claiming this stuff are transactivists. Those claiming these things are recognizably female when they show photographs.

Most women without hair are still obviously and visibly female.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 13/10/2024 15:08

Yes im sure this totally happened

a bald woman looks nothing like a man - in fact it’s even easier to tell that they are a woman because you can see just how much smaller the bones of the skull are in a woman

KizzyDora · 13/10/2024 15:08

Chinny reckon on this one.

Jeez, did you mean to come across so "look at what you made us do?!" 🙄

GCAcademic · 13/10/2024 15:10

Yes, this definitely happened.

Chinny reckon on this one.

Funny how people take it as gospel it must have happened if it's a "gender critical' anecdote on here, but as soon it's not fitting in with your view it's "chinny reckon" "must be lying's" all round.

wincarwoo · 13/10/2024 15:11

By "all women" you mean men. We see you.

RowdyTiel · 13/10/2024 15:12

Nope.

Dendee · 13/10/2024 15:14

The woman who tweeted this is GC

MiriamMay · 13/10/2024 15:14

Didn’t happen.

StellaGreen · 13/10/2024 15:14

This never happened.

Women do not look like men if they have alopecia or are bald or have had chemo.

Sinead O'Connor anyone?

SensibleSigma · 13/10/2024 15:14

It’s an odd thing. I am very rarely even momentarily confused about what sex people are. I can remember two occasions this year where I took a second look. It really is t at al hard to tell. A bald woman looks absolutely nothing like a bald man.

If the upsetting incident is accurately described, then I’m afraid that’s a disturbed woman making accusations and is nothing at all to do with gender critical women.

ReadWithScepticism · 13/10/2024 15:15

It isn't the fault of 'gender critical' women. It is the fault of all the men who have entered women's spaces and corroded their confidence that those spaces will be genuinely single sex.

Also, I am GC and have alopecia too. Because it often involves hat wearing, short hair styles, or just general lack of confidence in presenting a 'curated appearance', it has from time to time led to me being mistaken for a man. I've also been mistaken for a man once in a toilet - decades ago, unrelated to alopecia or to the current gender politics

It is awful and humiliating but it is just a feature of the condition (or of having a rather ungendered appearance). I don't think it is very credible to hammer it into another opportunity to have a go at women who don't believe you can change sex.

arethereanyleftatall · 13/10/2024 15:16

Eh? Your op is backwards.

Men barging in to women's spaces, resulting in women being on high alert at all times, is the cause of this.

Namechangeforadhd · 13/10/2024 15:16

Hhhmmm. The difference between males, however they ID, and females, is clear. Also females are - and this is one of the problems with our rights being stepped in - very unlikely to be rude even to a trans identified male. We are socialised and scared into putting up with things we shouldn't put up with.
All in all, I think this is highly unlikely to be true.

TofuTart · 13/10/2024 15:16

wincarwoo · 13/10/2024 15:11

No, all women as all women.
As in women born female.
I agree with the op that it hurts us.
So called gender criticals with their policing and scrutinising women's appearances are far more of a concern to me than people who are trans.

This exactly

ReadWithScepticism · 13/10/2024 15:17

And yes indeed to those of you who have said that a bald women looks nothing like a bald man. It is a very different presentation from male pattern baldness or a 'skinhead' haircut. When I have been misgendered it has been because of not very stylish hat wearing

wincarwoo · 13/10/2024 15:18

Tofutart how privileged of you. As a PP has said. What has this got to do with GC women? All seems very disingenuous by the OP whose agenda is known to anyone familiar with these boards.
