Do these idiots really think they are clever.

🚨Breaking🚨

Trans activists have just disrupted the annual Conference being held by LGB Alliance by releasing insects in the main hall.

These nasty individuals who seek to disrupt a peaceful conference of lesbian and gay people show themselves up to be the real bigots.

I expect they’re probably a bit gutted not to be dragged off by the rozzers and banged up. Hard to be the most oppressed evah when you can’t get arrested no matter what you do. I mean how does one get one up on just stop oil in the middle class oppression stakes

You needed tickets to get in and all bags went through airport style scanners. The piles of bugs/cardboard and dirt were quite large. I wonder about someone inside helping.

Not after lunch it wasn’t. Once you had a lanyard it seemed that you could come and go at will.

You mean for 93% heterosexual people?

I’d love to know where you got those stats from.

Grammarnut · 12/10/2024 21:50

Crickets, apparently, which are good luck. What foul people so to mistreat animals!

Not sure of percentage. Not clear where those figures come from either. Stats should not be waved about in this way.

@MrsOvertonsWindow said:

"Way back - (1970s / 80s) - lesbians and gay men rarely spoke out in public owning our sexuality. Women in lesbian relationships had their babies removed and given to the father."

Thanks! I'm 65 and when I was 16 my mother:

  • divorced my father
  • fought for custody of her children
  • as an avowed lesbian
  • all the way through the courts up to High Court on appeal
  • AND won.

She was, allegedly, the first to do this. Occasionally I try and Google evidence that this is remembered and appreciated and can't find anything. Can anyone in the LGB Alliance point me to any relevant reliable archives where I can confirm this (or not)?

(Mother'd be appalled by the crickets.)

Fantastic to hear about your mother. I know of 2 women who lost custody of ther children during that period.

One of the earliest research that Rights of Women did was into custody cases where the mother was lesbian. https://www.rightsofwomen.org.uk/about-us/our-herstory/

They wrote this report so it might be in there? https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/026455058503200216?icid=int.sj-abstract.similar-articles.8

And there is also this article https://lesbianhistorygroup.wordpress.com/2021/02/16/lesbian-mothers-up-against-the-law/

Unfortunately the Lesbian Archive based in SW England (I think) when it closed couldn't find any group who would take on the work and preserve its women only objectives. The it was suggested that the Women's Library in Glasgow might be suitable, and as at that time they agreed to the women only status all the information went there.

But as we know the Women's Library today is no longer women only. https://womenslibrary.org.uk/explore-our-collections/the-archive-collection/the-lesbian-archive/

Sorry see I quoted a quote. message above is for @MrsOvertonsWindow - I think, or am maybe still confused. Confused

RunsWithDinosaurs · 12/10/2024 22:19

I’m late to the party so don’t know if this was mentioned on the now disappeared thread… I can’t help but think that the disruption happening right before Jamie Reed was about to speak about her experience of working in a youth gender clinic was not coincidental. I’m so glad they found a way to let her speak despite the crickets.

I do find it baffling that a parent would let a teenager into Sarah Jane Baker's orbit and not freak out about it.

Mmmnotsure · 12/10/2024 23:31

TRAs: a threat to both etymology and entomology.

Just think of how one could wow guests at a dinner party with this story! 🙄

I suspect that is a large part of it.

Families who are in fact quite well established and secure, and just want a little something to show they are "radical".

I reckon you meant me! I'm the daughter of the successful lesbian mother in W v W. Fascinating that you knew other, less successful women. If they/you were in the London area I wonder if you'd have known each other? From my perspective it was a very supportive community. Lots of consciounes- raising in feminist homes that now can be (partly) done on Mumsnet FWR.

Thanks so much for the links. I've signed up for the newsletter and started reading.

CrystalSingerFan · 13/10/2024 09:03

Gah! 'consciousness- raising'

Something has gone very badly wrong with these people's parenting if they are allowing their teenage children to mix with a violent offender. Unfortunately, parents from the middle and upper-middle classes seem to get away with behaviour that would attract social disapproval and the attention of social services if engaged in by the lower orders.

We are talking about Righteous parents on the Right Side of History who are high on their own Righteous farts.

I wonder if they'd let the fragrant Isla Bryson babysit their daughters?

According to Lily Maynard the police are taking it seriously.

If you were at the @AllianceLGB conference and witnessed the releasing of the crickets, you can choose to make a crime report here:

"The Met are taking this very seriously - it is a hate crime and they are treating it as such" a friend tells me

Finally. It felt like a parallel universe where this would be ok

ArabellaScott · 13/10/2024 17:18

Very privileged people feel themselves invulnerable, I suppose. It's a bit of titillation to hang out with a convicted murderer with a spicy identity.

As many others have said, the older men who seem to be hovering at the periphery are highly delusional and unstable and may also be genuinely dangerous.

I hope, if these young people/children are prosecuted, that safeguarding issues are also raised and somebody, somewhere, asks questions about the company they are keeping and whether they are vulnerable, safe, being properly looked after.

RedToothBrush · 13/10/2024 17:30

Can they do what they did for the riots and make an order to parent etc etc.

In the Mermaids and LGBAlliance court case, it was revealed only 7% of the members are LGB.

It's not very accurate to call it a gay rights charity, given most members are hetero and virtually everything they do and say is somehow about trans people. The conference which was disrupted was no exception with the agenda being trans people.

It's ironic there's no T in their name given trans people are all they talk about.

It was not revealed but claimed.

A claim that falls down the moment you check whether LGBAlliance is a membership organisation.

it isn’t.

If it was, this bi woman would have joined.

I was there, chatting to some brilliant lesbians & gay men…
