Any crickets that escape will breed quickly. That could be a problem for native breeds I would have thought. (Looks out of window towards nearby tree full of dozens of screeching parakeets).
I'd have thought that would be the main problem, especially for the venue. Unless they managed to kill them all very quickly, there is a risk of being over-run by crickets.
But I think there's been a good deal of hyperbole on this thread. I don't think the trans activist young women are guilty of thinking that gays and lesbians are like insects - there is no sign that they do any thinking at all.
Neither do I see this as an act of terrible animal cruelty. Anyone who's a meat-eater is already complicit in acts of grotesque animal cruelty as it is, so getting aerated about the welfare of crickets seems overblown. (And do you feel the same way about all the celebs who eat live insects in I'm a Celebrity? It's certainly something I find disturbing, but millions of people seem to be entertained by it.)
My main concern about all this is the one put forward by Maya in the tweet mentioned earlier: that these are young women who are being groomed and manipulated by older, misogynistic and frankly disturbed men, at least one of whom has a serious criminal record for violence. Where are the adults who should be looking out for these young people? Something seems to have gone badly wrong in their parenting.
