I would love to know who their parents are. I have an image of them in my head. I’m imagining some of them must be involved in the media, arts, politics, charity sectors. Comfortably well-off, able to get all the ‘gender-affirming care’ privately - finance all the prescriptions and/or possibly surgeries. Not be too far away in their 3-storey houses near or in London/Brighton so they can discreetly observe from a distance when they’re dangling off balconies.
And then the hangers-on, like the two lads outside. Parents glad when they f**ed off to Uni to study Computer Science so they didn’t have to fret about them constantly in their bedrooms living online through the night. So nice to see they’ve found some ‘friends’ in real-life now.
And obviously the parents who just don’t know what the hell is going on when they’ve tried their best to give their kids all the opportunities. And the parents who’ve veered from completely befuddled and quietly acquiescent to cheerleader - and can’t go back to ‘questioning’ for fear of all contact being severed.
Sorry if you’re one of these parents and are caught up in all of this. I don’t think any of the parents of these young people are going to be totally surprised when they’re picking crickets out their laundry baskets today. I wouldn’t imagine it would be a source of parental pride.
