Good, and it shows up self ID for the inconsistent illogical nonsense that it is.

This recognises some relevance to sex in law which can only be a good thing.

But what if they self id as a non-rapist?

And murderers? Those convicted of violent offences? Those convicted of child sex offences that don't include rape? Will they still be allowed to self-identify as women? And have their crimes recorded as women's crimes?

Because the justification in this case is that "you can only commit that crime [rape] as a man". Not a justification available in the above cases.

No one should be self IDing as the opposite sex, it's a nonsense. What sex someone is is factual.

This will be tested within the year, I predict.

Yes this should be the next step - no male charged with a crime should be recorded as anything other than male.

It's also about having correct statistics - not recording crimes committed by men, which are usually violent/ sexual, as being committed by women.

Sex and gender ID should be recorded separately.

I assume a rapist with a GRC will still be classed as a 'woman'.

Will a transman who rapes with a surgically constructed 'penis' be classed as a man? Will a GRC affect that?

This whole shitshow is impossible to navigate, because words are supposed to hold both their previous logical meaning and concurrently their new, opposite meaning.

So they are giving men certain rights (to self ID) but not if they have been convicted of a specific crime?

But then who knows, as the statement from the police seems to be centred around rape being a male crime, which suggests even rapists with a GRC would be recorded as male?

But that assumes some logic....

If it only applies if someone has been convicted of rape then youll still have the issues with women being asked to refer to their rapists as "she" during the whole lead up process and in court and presumably the rapist being referred to as their chosen gender until/unless convicted....how ridiculous will the press articles be "she was accused of rape and after a trial he was convicted?"

Also doesn't say anything about them not being allowed to identify as non binary or alternative....

This is good news, surely? A little chink. If rapists are to be banned from self ID-ing, surely that undermines the entire concept of self ID? This is crumbling rather better than I'd hoped.
