Pretty scathing. Wadhwa cannot stay surely?

So he never did get sacked, despite being in a job reserved for a woman, despite traumatising women, despite making a pigs ear of running the place. Shame on RCS.

Good news that MW has finally gone. The wording in that statement that stood out to me, however, is 'We are in daily communication with Rape Crisis Scotland, have met their urgent demands' ... this isn't a hostage situation! The trustees allowed the organisation to get into an absolute mess and should now be working their arses off to fix it, not seeing the need for urgent improvement as 'demands'. I do appreciate some may not have been fully aware of how horrendous it was when they took on the role but this has been rumbling for years and frankly it was obvious MW was an entirely unsuitable leader who they should never have employed in the first place. I bet Forth Valley were delighted they took MW off their hands. I also recognise MW is probably a complete nightmare to manage, but that's just another reason why good recruitment is so important.

It's not exactly enthusiastic nor willing is it?

It's making a point about how it's being forced and the word demand suggests they think these changes are somewhat unreasonable.

It doesn't say a lot about the continuing culture having improved. Indeed it says the exact opposite.

It says it is hostile.

Imagine being a woman going their in that environment wanting women only services even now.

GailBlancheViola · 13/09/2024 07:50

Bearing in mind he should never have been employed there in the first place, should have had action taken against him for his remarks, the diktats and what he was enforcing in ERCC, this news he has finally gone is welcome and about time.

He was not at ERCC for the benefit of the users of the service he was there for his own benefit and to push his ideology you can see the measure of him by where and who he chose as players in pushing that ideology.

All those who supported and enabled him not only have questions to answer as to why they did so but should hang their heads in shame, be named and never be in a position to do the same again anywhere.

Stood down. If he hadn't, they'd have supported him in place?

CEOs don't get sacked. The fact that it says they decided together means Mridul had no option but to step down.

What the hell is he going to do now for a job? If he was actually a woman that would be it, working career pretty much over.

However given he's male and also his trans status I expect he'll walk into another job.

I read the word 'demands' with some relief, as it struck me as suggesting that the RCS was hopefully communicating with ERCC in a tone that came closer to dealing with the severity of their failures than the public language in the report did.
Perhapd I am being too optimistic, though.
At any event, I wouldn't expect this holding statement from ERCC to do justice to the situation. Time will tell whether they are willing to make the full extent of change that is required.

Boiledbeetle · 13/09/2024 08:03

Took them long enough! Glad he's gone though!

Exactly. Has the culture really changed? Will it? Personally, I think the person who was instrumental in RA having to go to an employment tribunal in the first place because they placed their 'non binary' status and that being pandered to and enabled above the welfare of traumatised women needs to go too and have a damn good think about their attitude and values.

Thank fuck he is gone. And I doubt that any new employer could claim they thought they were hiring a female person.

The toxic management style should absolutely be a deterrent to any employer hiring this person in a management role. But as you say, there seems to be this special defense screen around some of these extreme activists, you just know they will get plum jobs again and again.

A board of trustees can remove a CEO, or discipline them.

RCS are being very hypocritical here, they knew what was going on with ERCC and did nothing about it. So pretending this is all a big surprise to them is sickening.

Wasn't there a recording (a few years ago) of an event attended by representatives of services for Scottish women... a woman at the back of the room bravely stood and made clear the damage of TWAW on services for women...IIRC the attendees did not welcome her comments and mostly avoided eye contact until she was escorted out. RCS (affiliates) must have been represented in this meeting? was this a fever dream or really happen? I have such a vivid memory of it and I was so humbled by the woman speaking ...she was wearing a jumper if that helps.

Igmum · 13/09/2024 08:20

Thank heavens he's gone, but what about the other enablers who put MW's glorious trans status and a junior member of staff's non-binary status above the needs of rape victims?

And does this mean that the Scottish government will now fund women only spaces? (As in actual women only spaces)

Some threads which have been resurrected might contain reports/recordings of the meeting you are thinking of.

I think they did essentially remove him. Reading between the lines I think he was told resign or we'll remove you.

And whenever I see a conjunction of Scotland and jumpers, I always think of Celia Imrie saying this line in a sketch by Victoria Wood: "Oh dear, Morag, I've spat on my cardigan."

I may be paraphrasing. Can't remember the name of the sketch, either.

This is male person who from the very first opportunity showed how they thrived on having power over female people. I remember that interview, I think the first one Wadhwa gave way back, where Wadhwa told about the role in the call centre in India. And the delight of being in control of whether a woman calling from the USA would have food for her family that week.

Wadhwa was all about power over female people. The way that Wadhwa phrased Wadhwa’s answers was so concerning. And yet, organisations continued to employ this individual. Organisations that served female people in desperate need no less!

It's so exhausting having to fight this toxic gender ideology and all I am doing is writing emails in the background.

Kudos to all the brave women putting their lives, jobs and reputations on the line to bring back some sanity.

I keep hoping there'll be a watershed moment, but we really are going to have to fight every single tentacle aren't we?

Where next?

It is exhausting isn't it?. There are a number of other charities, the NHS, the civil service where men like this have been promoted and appear to use their power to enforce this ideology as opposed to doing their job.

I can think of some highly inappropriate medics using their trans status to promote the transitioning of children as an example. While really such a personal investment in a controversial ideology where the harm it does to children is now evident, should be seen as an immediate professional "conflict of interest" .

tumbleweed isn’t it??

the guardian are presumably still working out how to frame it so it’s women’s fault

I notice our usual scolders haven’t turned up on this thread to tell us off.

What about the rape crisis centres in the UK that have been forced to close because they had a policy of sex rather than gender. Their local authorities withdrew funding. I'm thinking about Brighton. I'm not up to date with how that all panned out does anyone know? The broader implications of this case have an impact or was the most important area just getting rid of MW. The broader implications being a confirmation that women are entitled to single sex spaces and people who state that view and are sacked, are being discriminated against?

The outcome of the Employment Tribunal and the Judge's comments regarding Whadwa were very hard to spin and now this report just heaps more difficulties on top.

Our usual scolders avoid threads like this like the plague which tells me all I need to know about them.
