I’m assuming Channel 4 may not cover it as there is not UK competitor. Any idea where to try and watch it? I’m very curious as to what will happen.

I found a YouTube livestream in the end. The presenter didn’t acknowledge that VP is trans, just cracked a joke about how ‘they’re 50 years old so there’s hope for me yet’. I think I heard booing coming from the stands though. Commiserations indeed to the woman who lost a place.

Just watched it on C4 and presenter talking about "her" making history blah blah blah and how they'll have more on the story later. The tone of it was very "stunning and brave" 😡

I thought Vick Hope was definitely I thought her co host was a lot more restrained about it and had a different thought process about it

I noticed Petrillo raced in shorts. Obviously their commitment to being a woman met a limitation.

As a pp said, commiseration to the women whose Paralympic dream this cheat has destroyed.

The Italian woman whose hard work and effort to try to gain a place in the Italian squad was ignored so that a male body could fulfill his dream.

The woman whose place in the semi final has been taken by a blatant cheat.

I do hope they get this sorted by 2028, I can’t bear to think how the Olympics will look since so many areas of US sports have been captured, and I think many smaller, poorer countries will also jump on the trans / DSD bandwagons to earn medals.

I just watched & recorded the C4 coverage. At least they addressed it head-on and I thought they did a good job. Petrillo has given a post-race interview (seen on X) but it’s in Italian so I’m hoping a translation circulates soon.

What's also very sad for the other competitors is that it's all about this transwoman. Evidently C4 have an IOC official in later who will no doubt just say it's about the individual sporting bodies. It's disgusting.

I thought they did a good job (particularly Danny??) in presenting the facts without giving an opinion and letting the facts speak for themselves.
It can be just as powerful (and important) for these things to be delivered with neutrality and simple facts rather than giving personal opinions because it allows for those watching to create their own

and I did think Vick Hope highlighting the winning record as a male competitor was also good in really bringing the point home

This is an interesting chart which shows the difference between male and female records for the 400m. Generally there is a big difference but only a small one between Petrillo running as a man (not very good) and as a woman. This shows how easy it is for a mediocre man to steal women's titles.

Ok. So it's the usual rubbish! We shouldn't be scared of VP because the people who object are all scared or prejudiced and don't really understand how stunning and brave VP actually is. Sport is all about inclusion. Interestingly, VP also says that it is right to look at the evidence and ask questions but on VP's FB page VP repeats ad nauseam that the evidence shows tw have no advantage which just isn't true.

Last 'competed as a male' in 2020 according to one article on the BBC. Ffs. How dare he. Just an absolute bloody disgrace.
I never did get any response at all from the IOC to my email about the male boxers. I don't suppose there's any point emailing whoever is in charge of this latest shit show.

yeah, I mean outside of the Paralympic sphere, the women's all-ages 400 metre world record is quite a bit faster than the men's over-50's masters world record, although this comparison is hardly like-for-like since over-50's don't train full time. it seems very likely that Ms Petrillo won't win, it's just his squeezing more deserving candidates out of finals places that's an affront.

I'm glad they showed this on TV but C4 did not show the other heats. Don't those women deserve to have their races shown.

I wonder if the Last Leg will cover this? They’re very TWAW, but also champions of disability sports. They’ve already said that the coverage should be about competitiveness and winning, respecting the competitors as athletes. Not patronising inclusiveness and “it’s the taking part that’s important”. Tempted to tweet them an #isitok.

I don't mean to cast aspersions in an area that I don't know anything about, but don't many entrants in that category have vastly poorer eyesight than this contestant seems to?
