Valentina Petrillo race this morning?

I’m assuming Channel 4 may not cover it as there is not UK competitor. Any idea where to try and watch it? I’m very curious as to what will happen.

The other two competitors had guides. I wonder why this competitor doesn't need one.

The consternation has extended to Petrillo’s demand to access female changing facilities. In response to complaints from women’s advocacy group RadFem Italia ahead of a race in Ancona last year, Petrillo was provided with a designated changing room separate from women. The athlete lashed out in a subsequent Facebook post, accusing detractors of being “on the same level as Hitler”.

T12 athletes have the option to use a guide. So on this issue Petrillo is fine.

As thought by everybody capable of rational thinking.

This is the year the Olympics became a farce. Principles of fairness and a level playing field, even of safeguarding, were sacrificed to allow men who were 3rd rate as athletes competing against men but who could win against women because of their physical advantages.
Every sporting event will be swarming with men in women's events from this day forward.

I can't believe there isn't more media coverage. I think lots of people would be incredibly shocked

You know I think a lot of people don't really consider the paralympics as "proper" sport so they just think "inclusivity" is good. It's incredibly patronising.

Petrillo didn't look as if they were putting much effort into the race.

I just wish that for once one of the Italian journalists fawning over him would push back on the claim that tw have no advantage and ask: if it's such a level playing field why aren't there other 50 year olds (or 40 year olds...) competing.

And they had the obligatory fake nails, colourful varnish plus the red (sometimes orange) lipstick. It is like a uniform for them- it if lippy & some nail varnish jobs done - I am now a woman.

disgraceful they are also competing against true para athletes, as if they are not marginalised enough.

Yes @ApocalypseNowt I noticed the #isitok hashtag was trending on X with absolutely loads of posts about the unfairness of Petrillo competing against women. I don’t expect Adam Hills to take any notice though, unless it’s to get on his soapbox and call us all right-wing terfs.

Guess what, Adam? Women are people too, and they deserve the chance to excel in sport against other females, not against male people who wish they were female. Is it OK for men to compete against women? No. No it is not OK.

Sadly for a show that has done so much good for people with disabilities they are ignoring the # isitok questions about a 50 year old man competing in a women’s race.

They are 100% TWAW which is surprising when they are all fathers of daughters.

The Last Leg team have no interest in fairness for women. They'll avoid the issue, or tell us all to be kind.

Separate spaces not enough are they? Because............drum roll............. it is not, and has NEVER been about the space.

It's about the women in them, and their unquestioning validation.

Why should this person care if they have to change in a separate area or not? Why does there have to be "other" women in there with them? It's not enough that they get to access the space, they need the capitulation and surrender of every other person too.

According to that article World Para Athletics regulations say “Transgender athletes wishing to compete in the female category in WPA competitions are required to declare that their gender identity for sporting purposes is female, and to provide evidence that their total testosterone level in serum has been below 10 nanomoles per litre for at least 12 months.”

So they don't even need to actually 'be' trans. They don't need to perform their version of womanhood in day-to-day life. All the mediocre male paraathlete needs to do is state their gender identity for sporting purposes and dope down into an elite category that they can win more easily than the appropriate category for their sex.

But not in the disability classifications. Why can't the single-amputee compete in their double-amputee identity for sporting purposes? Oh, silly me, that would be unfair.

I expect the Last Leg team are praying as hard as they can that VP loses then they will be able to bring out the “Transwomen athletes don’t have unbeatable advantages , yaboo you TERFy haters” rhetoric, forgetting of course that while VP is a poor athlete VP has stolen chances from an unknown Italian female athlete who not only deserved her chance to be included in the Paralympics but , for all we know, had a decent chance of winning a medal.

It’s not just the potential unfairness to the other athletes in the race, it is the very evident unfairness of the opportunities stolen from the athletes whose places he usurps.
