Vaishnavi Sundar's long awaited documentary that was three years in the making, is having a worldwide premiere on the 30th of August, 7pm UK time.

Behind The Looking Glass is a feature-length film about the lives of women whose partners have/want to medically transition.

I can't wait but I'm also expecting it to be quite upsetting. Transwidows (and children of transitioners) have been treated so appallingly. An important watch though.

ArabellaScott · 30/08/2024 09:46

Perfect.

(Prosecco and a cheeseboard).

WifeOfTiresias · 30/08/2024 15:10

Will definitely be there! The transwidow threads have helped keep me sane over the years. Thanks @TinselAngel

Or during for that matter.

We've scheduled today so we can watch it live.

Looking forward to seeing this much-needed work.

ConSiVe · 30/08/2024 16:09

@TinselAngel Prosecco and cheese sounds great!

FranticFrankie · 30/08/2024 16:11

Will be watching tonight @TinselAngel - enjoy 😊

I'm in the same position but will will watch it the first chance I get.

I really hope the film will help more people to understand the reality of what transwidows and their children go through, rather than the sparkle & glitter fantasy punted by TA and the complicit media.

AReasonablePerson · 30/08/2024 19:55

I'm watching. It is excellent and enraging. So good to hear women's voices finally.

Yes. I wonder if we'll get the BBC reporting on this important film?

(Is that a pig I see flying past my window?)

EmpressaurusDeiGatti · 30/08/2024 20:42

Wow.

That's an extremely powerful film, beautifully done.

Olderbadger1 · 30/08/2024 20:48

Absolutely superb film (and beautifully animated/produced/directed). Congratulations to the wonderful Vashnavi and to Tinsel and all the trans widows and children who contributed. Hope that it is watched by the world!

Well worth a watch and beautifully animated. Well done to everyone involved - I hope it reaches a wide audience.

TeamPolin · 30/08/2024 21:22

Very powerful stuff. The experiences of the children was particularly difficult to listen to.

Congrats to the filmmakers. A very important film that needed to be made.

TinselAngel · 30/08/2024 21:55

It's been an emotional evening!

Wow.
Thank you to all the amazing, articulate contributers.
And thank you to the team behind the project - crew, production & direction , you have made a fantastic piece of work. You should be very proud of your contribution and brave vision. You told their stories with great skill.

LoobiJee · 30/08/2024 22:16

Just finished watching it. What strong, brave, resilient women.

Melroses · 30/08/2024 22:30

Wow - amazing. Great to have such a good film about something we should have heard more about. The bit about the old 'guidance manual' for psychiatrists telling how wives and wives-to-be should be managed was eye-opening.

Lovelyview · 30/08/2024 22:45

That was an amazing film. Well done to everyone involved in it.

DrSpartacular · 30/08/2024 22:50

Very powerful and moving, wonderful animation and good spread of experiences among contributors.
