‘Demure and mindful’ - oh great.

So this trend. I’m bridling at the ‘demure and mindful’ bullshit being promoted by someone who is performing femininity.

Demure and mindful women seldom make history. Here we go again, being sent back into our boxes by men.

Jools Lebron on Jimmy Kimmel Live

Very demure, very mindful - are we missing joke of Jools Lebron trend?

A demure TikTok has gone viral, but is it an ironic joke or does it set unrealistic standards for women?

Yes. We are pointing out the harm. We have pointed it out on multiple fronts.

You have denied it. You have been abusive in describing those who discuss the harms as being driven by bigotry and hate and transphobia. Yet, you cannot articulate a reply to address the opinions that it causes harm to female people.

But others reading it will read the posts and then go and think more about it. That is, after all, how forums work.

If the discussion was to be silenced, then people wouldn’t see how others feel about it. Why do you think women should STFU about issues they see as collectively harmful and the individuals who are part of that harm?

Because it doesn't cause any fucking harm if a trans tiktoker

a) wears make up
b) has opinions about make up
c) makes jokes about make up
d) other people find the joke funny and make memes about it

We don't need a "Warning: Trans" klaxon for that person to exist and be in the public eye for 5 minutes, FFS. Give your head a wobble. Your use of the word "harm" in this context devalues it for contexts where it's actually relevant. This is literally just desperate grasping to find a problem with a trans person existing.

A bit like when people refer to using the wrong pronouns as "literal violence" eh?

LunaNorth · 25/08/2024 11:10

Yes, I’m not sure I suggested the person in question is a ‘monster’ or ‘shouldn’t exist’. I’m not ‘furious’, I’m bridling.

That means ‘feeling indignant.’

You TRAs need to calm down a bit. Be demure and mindful 😂

It's not because they're "trans", it's because they're male.

It’s a harmless tongue in cheek fad, can’t see the issue.

Which bit? The woman face or the demureness?

So you'll be alright with Rachel Dolezal wearing black face and having opinions about black people whist promoting racial stereotypes?

LunaNorth · 25/08/2024 11:14

It was yet more damaging stereotypes being promoted on the BBC that irritated me, to be honest.

I was already rolling my eyes and preparing to post before I got to the trans bit. That just added an extra rotation to the eyeballs.

(Note - ‘rolling one’s eyes’ does not translate into ‘thinking someone is a monster’).

Maybe you can answer these questions then:

What part of this person being male and mocking female oppressive stereotypes while using female stereotypes to define themselves is to be celebrated?

Is it to be celebrated because it is a person with a transgender identity rather than a male comedian? Is it to be celebrated because it is a person with a transgender identity rather than a drag artist?

As a woman who never wears make up, I can't see how this person's preference to wear make up is mocking me or has anything to do with me at all. In fact they clearly know more about make up and the culture surrounding it than I do, so I'd say they're better placed to be commenting on it and making jokes about it than I am. Am I supposed to naturally know more about make up or take its usage personally because I was born with a vagina? Are only people born with vaginas allowed to wear make up now, or make TikToks about it? How exactly am I as a woman being "mocked" here, please explain?

Datun · 25/08/2024 11:16

It is rather depressing that the huge fad of the moment is all about how women should conduct themselves, whether it's a piss take or not. And that sexiest men get to make it into content fodder, monetise it and get written up by the BBC.

This sums it up for me. It's a tiktok trend like the 1000s of other tiktok trends that make little sense and come and go in 5mins. It's really not as deep as the BBC article makes it out to be.

I used to be behind the whole gender critical thing and still am when it comes to certain things but shit like this on this board just comes across as pathetic and nitpicking.

*FreedomDogs

can you answer any of the posters who have asked you about Rachel Dolezal ?

It's a way of trying to make you understand.

FreedomDogs · 25/08/2024 11:19

Ereshkigalangcleg · 25/08/2024 11:10

It's not because they're "trans", it's because they're male.

And we all know men shouldn't be wearing make up, right girls, that's our shit that we were born with on our faces and have written into our DNA 🙄🙄

Like seriously even if you believe trans women are men, why the fuck shouldn't they wear make up?

It's amazing watching a group of so called "gender criticals" who clearly actually aren't interested in being critical of gender stereotypes at all, they just want to uphold them because Make up is for GIRLS apparently. Does it not bother you that this trans person is actually being more gender critical than you are right now?

Helleofabore · 25/08/2024 11:19

c) makes jokes about make up
d) other people find the joke funny and make memes about it

We don't need a "Warning: Trans" klaxon for that person to exist and be in the public eye for 5 minutes, FFS. Give your head a wobble. Your use of the word "harm" in this context devalues it for contexts where it's actually relevant. This is literally just desperate grasping to find a problem with a trans person existing.

And the point is that they are reported as ‘she’ in that article and refers only to that person’s ’gender transition‘ half way down with a short sentence.

‘Gender transition’ in this case could mean anything, there are over 130 genders. And it has been shown that the UK public don’t understand what these term mean. They are confused by them.

No one is denying this person exists. No one is hating them. People are pointing out that this person is mocking female people’s history of being expected to follow sexist stereotypes. And that it is misogynistic to do so as a male person.

Because it doesn't cause any fucking harm if a trans tiktoker

a) wears make up
b) has opinions about make up
c) makes jokes about make up
d) other people find the joke funny and make memes about it

No one is complaining about a, b, c. And d is irrelevant because we know that some people find funny things that are horrific.

You cannot seem to address what people are discussing. You have misrepresented the argument completely. It is like you cannot correctly characterise the points being raised at all.

Biological realist.

Also 80's girl. Men in make up are still men, I crushed on Duran Duran & Bowie like all the rest. Boy George & Marilyn knew they were men under their frocks.
