Taiwan Tries to Silence Fair Play For Women

mb2512cat · 16/08/2024 22:05

Fair Play For Women has been approached by the Taiwan embassy in the UK to remove their posts describing Olympic boxer Lin Yu-ting as ‘male’.

Dear God, they just need to show us the karyotype results with ‘XX’ and this all goes away.

Taiwan attempts to silence UK women’s right campaigners in Olympics gender row

Exclusive: Criticism aimed after asking activists to delete posts referring to gold medallists Lin and Khelif as ‘biologically male’

Yu-Ting doesn’t even have the excuse of having been born in a rural region of a (by Taiwan’s standards) poor country like IK.

I’d be very… surprised… if he’d not had a DNA test / scans when his puberty wasn’t a female-standard one.

He seems to have dodged a lot of the scrutiny that IK’s been subjected to, at least in the UK press, so I’m not sure the embassy’s done him any favours by making this request.

CautiousLurker · 16/08/2024 22:17

Hmmm. I’d swear there was a hint of 5 o/c stubble on that upper lip…

Snowypeaks · 16/08/2024 22:24

I hope FPfW are getting support from the British government. Seems like bullying for the Taiwanese embassy to directly target them.

He has an obvious Adam’s apple 🤷‍♀️. It’s all about making women too afraid to speak out. “If we can’t get them to believe he’s a fellow female, then we just bully and coerce them into submission. We have hundreds of years of experience of doing so.”

Good point - the Streisand effect.

His Adams apple is one of the biggest I've ever seen.

Unless Fair Play have a DNA test showing XY, they are engaging in libellous speculation. The request is the required cease and desist step prior to filing a suit for libel. Hope Fair Play has deep pockets.

JanesLittleGirl · 16/08/2024 22:53

I think that the appropriate response by FPfW would be ODFOD

BeBraveLittlePenguin · 16/08/2024 22:56

Arkel v Pressdram 😁

CautiousLurker · 16/08/2024 23:01

It’s not libellous if it is true, though? Based on the evidence provided by the IBA and the coach’s own testimony in his interview it is true that IK is biologically male due XY chromosomes and T levels. The onus, in the face of this, would be upon IK to disprove the evidence being put forward… ie to supply DBA/medical evidence to the contrary.

Trox · 16/08/2024 23:08

If only there were a quick and easy way to clarify the confusion.

Don't talk shite. Being a man isn't libellous even if were to turn out he isn't one.

It is injurious to her athletic career and reputation as it implicitly alleges cheating by lying about her sex.

More so than the non-contested IBA findings?

It will be interested if the Taiwanese govt. launches an action against IBA in re: the testing results or their recent press conference.

The IBA did not test T levels, they have never disclosed the one independent laboratory that gave them a result where only one data point was not met.

The disqualification was stated to be due to an undisclosed “competitive advantage”
https://www.iba.sport/news/statement-made-by-the-international-boxing-association-regarding-athletes-disqualifications-in-world-boxing-championships-2023/

The XY bit is speculation & the coach and IOC have said “born as a woman, raised as a woman….”

Disclosed to the boxers and their teams it seems.

SugarandSpiceandAllThingsNaice · 16/08/2024 23:42

Correct, but I doubt Fair Play has the evidence to prove it true.

Disclosed to the boxers and their teams it seems.

I haven’t seen any report of disclosure of results.
IBA could have simply disclosed their decision to disqualify.
And IOC has overturned the IBA decision as their review found the test to be fundamentally flawed.

Not sure I’d hang my hat on an overturned test result that has been discredited.

Fed up of arguing this. The IBA - and his coach in the interview he gave - stated that the blood tests which did not test T, ‘showed he was not a female, as defined by XX chromosomes’ - ergo he was tested and found to have XY chromosomes. This was not stated explicitly because they were gagged by the NOCs in Tawian and Algeria but we ‘can draw our own conclusions’, as the IBA doctor suggested.

The coach stated that the T levels were high in his interview.

You can be as disingenuous as you want to but it has been stated by several sources that IK does not have XX chromosomes and that their T had to be managed to try and lower it. Repeated what the coach has said cannot be libellous.

Edited to add: wish I could block posters on here as am fed up with seeing the same ones recycling rubbish and disinformation.

The BBC states that these “sources” are speculating all of that.
So it’s speculation and could be libellous.

Fair Play aren’t repeating the coach though are they? Nope the coach has never said she is a man. The coach has said the exact opposite.

Twistybranch · 16/08/2024 23:50

The Govt should be calling in the Taiwan ambassador to explain himself

My posting the link to IBA decision is not “recycling rubbish and disinformation” - your post saying the IBA decision stated she was XY and her T levels were high was absolute rubbish and pure disinformation as proven by the IBA statement which makes no mention of XY and explicitly states that T levels were not tested.

There is an interview with the coach, directly quoting him - available in both translation and the original French. Google - copy and paste it into a translation app. Whatever.

Do you not bother to look at other ‘sources’ than the BBfuckingC?
