Gosh. I remember this person from a few years ago when Starbucks was doing its Mermaid biscuits campaign. A local councillor (?) raised her concerns about safeguarding at Mermaids and he had a real go at her.

@StickItInTheFamilyAlbum

I like to think I have a fairly strong stomach but that Der Spiegel piece made me feel physically sick.

What piece, if you don't mind sharing?
(I'm sure I'm going to regret asking...)

The problem is with the naive (at best) cheerleaders who say that sex is great, there should be no boundaries, no limits, anybody objecting to anything another person wants to do is being a prude and preventing them from being their authentic self, which is literal violence etc etc. All of which makes life for the predators incredibly easy and will attract them like wasps to a jampot.

It also creates predators, I believe.

It's become unfashionable to ay it - largely due to the whole "born this way" thing - but human sexuality is highly culturally influenced. Many many people have sexual thoughts or desires, maybe particularly during adolescence, that are not really morally or socially acceptable. This is why we have to build social boundaries around these things. We can see from history that it's not just naturally obvious, many societies have condoned things as normal we would say are immoral.

People including teens do learn to suppress and work around certain bad thoughts, and insofar as they manage they avoid reinforcing those desires and behaviours. Yes, some people do not manage even knowing that it is wrong, but if they don't try, then it will inevitably get worse. When we indulge thoughts with a sexual payoff, it becomes harder not to think about those things.

When people are told that sexual desire is always ok, or all sexual thoughts are ok because they are just thoughts, or love is love, or they need to be "authentically" live out their true selves, that sex is fun leisure and not that big a deal - that affects how they behave, the kinds of things they allow themselves to think about, the thrills they seek out.

With the stuff that people, including developing teens, have been taught about this, since at least the 1980s, I am not at all surprised if there is a huge increase in paraphilias.

And It makes sense that people who believe all that stuff and want to live it out will include many people who indulge in dodgy behaviour.

Paraphilias depend on pushing at or outraging boundaries. If boundaries are removed - if for example a fetishist is celebrated for his fetish - then the fetish will escalate; he'll need to go further to get the thrill of the transgression.

Up until recently 'fetishist crossdressing' was a recognised paraphilia that could become a disorder. Now, it's a lifestyle choice that is actively celebrated. See various other fetishes, too - how the Wi Spa pervert was defended by so many.

lonelywater · 17/08/2024 01:15

oh well, one positive outcome of another safeguarding train wreck is that Stephen will, I suspect, be about to become a massive fan of boundaries.

I would guess the alleged CSA cases that have come to light with regards to males who say they are women/ trans or high profile trans campaigners in recent years are just the tip of the iceberg. We know that only a tiny fraction of child abuse victims speak up at the time - often it is only decades later- and currently it's such a hostile environment if you speak up against anything to do with trans many victims will stay silent.

Imagine being a child in this situation- who are you going to ask for help? School? NSPCC? Childline? Church? LGBT support group? Police? medical staff? Social worker? Every single one is trained by trans lobby groups, plasters trans flags all over their website and offices and sometimes staff badges too.

Many child abusers are only stopped when the offender is arrested for an unrelated issue and police realise what he is doing and involve social services. Even then the child will be reluctant to speak up- fear, threats, loyalty to the offender, knowing the 'authorities' celebrate everything 'trans' not you- hardly conducive to giving evidence. And offenders know it.

And there’s this pied piper pin to tell children “you are safe with me”

Oh but where are our usual scolders, to tell us off for being untoward towards paedophiles?

Writing a letter to dissociate themselves from paedophiles?

YellowAsteroid · 17/08/2024 07:24

i wonder if they’re humming “Let the sunshine in” ??

YellowAsteroid · 17/08/2024 08:25

Thanks for that @MrsOvertonsWindow

Once again, I really regret the silence of the Guardian on this - publication in the Daily Mail will only increase the level of homophobic frothing of elements of the far right.

Re the Daily Mail pic of him in a blue t shirt, with all the family groups in the background...nice family friendly Pride

On 'Educate and Celebrate':

'... it mysteriously shut down at the start of 2024 after a series of controversies including pushing to replace 'Sir' and 'Miss' with gender-neutral terms and one of its other patrons - trans comic Jordan Gray - stripping off and exposing their penis during a TV skit.'

The DM presents a gender neutral penis, there.

Maray1967 · 17/08/2024 08:39

I hope the Green Party member can withdraw her apology and call these bastards what they are - paedophiles.

CindyBirdsong · 17/08/2024 09:04

Those charges, those poor children. In plain sight.

From the DM piece:

The non-profit, which was set up by Dr Elly Cannon, said it had hoped to 'embed gender, gender identity and sexual orientation into the fabric' of organisations including primary schools.
However, it mysteriously shut down at the start of 2024 after a series of controversies including pushing to replace 'Sir' and 'Miss' with gender-neutral terms and one of its other patrons - trans comic Jordan Gray - stripping off and exposing their penis during a TV skit.
When it closed in January, the charity's chair of trustees Julie Bremner told MailOnline they would 'continue our much-needed work through new projects'. There is no suggestion its closure was related to the charges faced by Ireland.

If Elly Cannon is involved, I'm yet again left wondering what sort of due diligence people attempt in an area (very young children) that cries out for sound safeguarding.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 17/08/2024 10:41

One of the issues that's repeated a number of times in this awful article is how these adults deliberately encouraged children to overcome their natural instinct for privacy - openly shaming, coercing and encouraging children to expose their nakedness and to sexually touch and be touched adults.

It's worth considering that at the root of trans extremism is the demand that women - and especially children - overcome their natural instinct to privacy from the opposite sex - just as seen in the article - and repeated across our society:

So what do we make of the NHS staff who write policies that focus on wedging male sex offenders in hospital wards with women and girls?
Of the senior officers in the College of Policing who write policies enabling men claiming to be women to strip search women and girls?
Of the staff in schools who implement mixed sex toilets, dormitories, changing rooms and showers for children?
Of the politicians who describe adults insisting children should be safeguarded from all this as "engaging in a culture war"?
Of the charities who have walked away from children being gaslit and psychologically groomed into believing their bodies are flawed but a sex change will cure them?

On the assumption that the majority of the above are not actual paedophiles, what motivates them to erode children's boundaries like this?

That’s a decent article in the Mail. The Guardian don’t care about women and children, they care only for making themselves look as ‘progressive’ and liberal as possible.

They won’t touch this, they never do.

Crossover: Educate and Celebrate formed part of the Rev. B Randall vs Trent College Employment Tribunal.

Did the Respondent engage in ‘unwanted conduct’ related to the Claimant’s religion and or religious or philosophical belief (whether perceived or actual)?

20. The Claimant asserts the following as unwanted conduct:
a. The failure to include the Claimant in discussions about the implementation of the Educate and Celebrate programme

The Claimant’s view of E&C 77.

77. The Claimant was aware that E&C would be attending the staff inset day in September 2018 and visited its website beforehand. On viewing the content, he formed the view that E&C went beyond a neutral stance of inclusivity into active promotion of ideas which he believed amounted to identity politics. He found E&C’s reference to the phrase “smashing heteronormativity” as “alarming”.

Within the judgment, Educate and Celebrate is also written as E&C.

Perhaps possible to FOI? As it's closed down there's not much info left on the CC website.
