She could have put this to bed by sharing DNA tests. I'm struggling to feel sympathy, although it must be horrid.

Should AI-generated posts be banned/blocked on MN? Or 'labelled' somehow?

Yes.

I wonder if it can be done at point of posting? I wouldn't mind having to click squares with traffic lights in 'em each time, if it stops the knobheads flooding interesting threads with their spaffing.

Well, Semenya raised a very valid point this week about being discriminated against under the IOC's eye.

Remember, Semenya cannot compete in the Olympics because the WA finally created a policy that excluded the now obvious male athlete with male pubertal advantage from competition. Because the IOC refused to exhibit leadership and decided to make the international sporting federations responsible for the policy and any litigation.

However, these two male athletes can compete because the IOC excluded the IBA and ignored the IBA policy, the one that excluded these two athletes.

Semenya raises the issue of discrimination. Because if Semenya had trained as a boxer last year, Semenya could have competed in the boxing but not their speciality. Because the IOC has allowed this inconsistency to occur.

And I am quite sure that if it went to court the CAS would most likely agree that in boxing it is a significant safety issue.

Yes, it does beggar belief that one of the sports where it's so obviously a matter of safety rather than fairness has done this.

It's the thing that most disappoints me from the be-kinders, the shocking lack of any sort of care for the other competitors and complete failure of any sort of risk assessment.

I would object.

For various reasons (relating to sight and deafness), it's not unusual for me to have to go through 9 or more sets of those verification tests.

This has exposed the worst of humanity to me and I feel physically ill. To watch a mob of people repeatedly misgender someone due to false information is one thing. On top of that, demanding a generic test and medical evidence of their sex. Entitlement and bigotry. Disgusting. This is why people hurt themselves. This is why people are murdered for their differences by intolerant and power hungry bullies. Shame on all of you. You all are so disappointing.

Imagine if your child was treated this way by a bunch of strangers on the Internet.

The world has much worse.going on than a masculine looking woman winning a sporting event.

Get your heads out of your asses please "ladies". You all are not real women.

Gross.

I recommend lying down in a dark room for thirty minutes with a damp tea towel over your face.

That or watch Al Jazeera for 24 hours to get a good idea of the worst of humanity (Al Jazeera still are more graphic than western news tv stations and regardless of their political leanings it shows some pretty grim realities about the worst of humanity).

It’s almost as though we don’t know all this already, and haven’t been discussing it for years. Luckily, AI pulls it all together nicely.

👏👏👏

Indeed,we might not seem quite so 'disappointing' after that.

I thought you were joking at first!

Once you see the pattern and the typically phrasing, default content written by chatGPT is very obvious. And annoying. It's like being lecturered by an earnest A level student who has read all the books but has no understanding of the content and is therefore unable to draw a conclusion.

Good prompt engineering can easily get better results. Luckily ploppers understand AI no better than they understand sex.

Unfortunately, I see a lot of AI generated stuff in my work - it becomes really quite easy to detect, like spotting when someone’s had cosmetic surgery. Bland, unoriginal and a bit too good to be true.

borntobequiet · 11/08/2024 16:17

RainWithSunnySpells · 11/08/2024 15:22

Has soft used AI to write all their posts? Maybe explains the lack of understanding?

Yes, that will be it.

Helleofabore · 11/08/2024 16:22

You mean, we could get AI to post rather than us having to put so much effort in to link up all the evidence and pertinent points? FFS!

FlirtsWithRhinos · 11/08/2024 16:22

To watch a mob of people repeatedly misgender someone due to false information is one thing. On top of that, demanding a generic test and medical evidence of their sex.

Lolz. So it's unacceptable to act on false information and it's also unacceptable to ask for true information. How to square that circle? Why, accept what you are told without question as long as it's the right people telling you. Who are the right people? The ones we say are right of course!

Do they even hear themselves?

I think the amped up emotion and the inability to discuss tricky issues of what gender identity means in society vs what sex means in society without insulting and dismissing and belittling anyone who places sex over gender actually stems from the semi-conscious awareness that they don't really believe this, or rather see how it works, either. They absolutely cannot entertain the opposite position even as an intellectual exercise because they know this is what they really believe as well, but they've been told to think this way is abhorrent, beyond the pale, and so they cannot hear it from others because at some level they can feel they agree and they fear they are being corrupted.

PaterPower · 11/08/2024 16:29

Walkden · 11/08/2024 08:05

"However the "cheat" comment can be defended if the individual knows they are male but they choose to enter a female competition."

If we are going to take the position, That sex is black and white i.e xy chromosome = male then surely the issue of cheating or not cheating should also be black and white. We might feel the IOC rules are a joke but they have not been broken here so she is not a cheat.

This boxer believes herself to be a woman, was raised as such and did not benefit from. Male entitlement etc. At some point she realised she had a DSD but (after much soul searching I'd imagine) still sees herself as a woman.

If all of that can be ignored and dismissed as ultimately irrelevant then it's a bit inconsistent to introduce a " spirit of cricket" argument for branding her a cheat.

What the hell has “male entitlement” got to do with anything we’re discussing here?

It’s male puberty that ‘she’ benefitted from! You know, the surge in testosterone which gave ‘her’ an average 162% stronger punch (just for starters).

Yes. The difference between the patient posts giving careful explanations and polite push back and those who resort to abusive labeling, mischaracterisations and then pleas/demands for emotional understanding and acceptance of those emotional demands is stark.

But it always was, wasn’t it. In saying that, the repetitious mischaracterisations of women’s campaigns has been very enlightening. Some people truly lack the understanding on what people discussing protecting female sports have been working for.

They have lazily believed the activists who dismiss the efforts to protect female sports as hate without doing any further investigation. I guess they don’t believe they need to. Because someone who they believe is righteous has told them otherwise.

So now they come out with all the falsehoods they themselves have believed. And they then cannot see that they were wrong about what they have just plopped down about what women have campaigned for, so what else are they wrong about.

Whereas, if it was me, my dissonance alarm would be off the chart!

so the worst of humanity is not (off the top of my head)

  • men gang raping female civilians in war zones
  • stoning women to death for adultery
  • banning girls from having an education.
  • abolishing abortion so women and girls are forced to give birth to babies they don’t Want or risk their own health trying to protect cure an abortion illegally
  • murdering young girls enjoying a Taylor swift party

It isn't about bigotry. Would I be a bigot if I insist the Paralympics be closed to able bodied people? Of course not! It's about fairness and safety.

Do I rant and rave about being short and old? Of course not! It's a fact of life.

All your examples of the 'worst of humanity' (which I agree with) have one thing in common - hatred of women and girls and seeing them as 'lesser'.

Attempting to force women to lie about what they see is very much the thin end of the wedge of such misogyny.

I look at Khelif and Lin and I see MEN. And I'll say what I see. That's my right to free speech. Not only is it what I see, it's backed up by all available evidence. And there's no evidence to the contrary.

Anyone who tries to shame me into compliance with some kind of weird misogynistic emperor's new clothes fantasy can fuck right off, you only make me more determined to protect women's rights. My sympathies are with the women boxers cheated out of safe sport, their place in the Olympics and medals, and in some cases who've been injured.

Yep we are definitely the worst thing in humanity aren't we? How very dare we.

Badge of honour, surely. It also demonstrates that poster's relative standards for women. I've never forgotten this from Julie Bindel:

Rounding off the panel was journalist and co-founder of Justice for Women Julie Bindel. She discussed how she had become a public hate figure among trans rights activists when she had an article published in 2003 in the Sunday Telegraph Magazine in which she interviewed a male to female transsexual who believed that her psychiatrist had been too quick to diagnose her as needing surgery.

In 2008 she was nominated for Stonewall journalist of the year, but a mob of around 200 people turned up and protested outside the awards venue.
“According to the judge, I should have won, based on the readers’ votes, but I was denied the award because they were afraid of the activists storming the building,” Bindel explained. “After this I was picketed and no-platformed everywhere.”
“I’ve been called a bigot, Hitler — it’s always Hitler, never Pol Pot, never a mid-range dictator,” she quipped.

But, she said, the worst incident that occurred was in 2017 when she was invited to the Working Class Movement Library in Salford to give a talk about growing up as a working-class lesbian.
Bindel described what the activists did as “horrendous.”
“They tried to get the library’s funding pulled, they blocked the phone lines and they turned up and banged on the doors” to try to get the library to cancel her talk, but it refused to cave in and the meeting went ahead.
“What happened to me was a warning to other feminists,” Bindel said.
“But since when were we a women’s movement that decided we would keep schtum and let a few women take the shit? Since when have we capitulated because we might be seen as ‘nasty’?”

How would you feel if you have been brought up as female, always thought you were female, didn't have male genitalia and someone did a test (no one seems to have said what the test was and what it showed) and told you that you were male. Would you suddenly think Oh yes I'm a man or would you still think you were a woman.

Watch the ten minute YouTube video, linked earlier in the thread and learn how Erika - Erik, the Austrian women's Olympic skier dealt with it. He's a man who found out and it was a tremendous psychological shock, but he accepted that he was a man and lived a life full of honour.
