TWO “Female Boxers” Set To Compete At Paris 2024 Were Previously Disqualified From Women’s World Championship For Having “XY Chromosomes” | Mumsnet

Khelief is male, unfortunately the wrong sex noted at birth. Why keep fighting this? Why keep insisting he is female. Go box with the males. See how you get on.

It's caster semenya case yet again. Yawn. No progress made. Shame on the Olympics committee.

£££.

DrBlackbird · 11/08/2024 11:03

It is said that everyone must play sports. Everyone, except these people?

This statement, and whole interview, makes it clear they he, all of the team, knew exactly what was going on for Khelif. Exactly. That Khelif has a DSD of the male type. What other interpretation of his comments is possible?

But as someone else mentioned upthread and what’s apparent watching the whole of the Olympics is just how much of a business this is with dozens if not tens of dozens of people’s jobs on the line supporting the single athlete. Mark Cavendish the cyclist summed it up that if you cross the line first, your life changes. We get that everyone involved is incentivised to get their athlete to cross the line first. By any means possible.

Apparently even if that means letting women get beaten up and losing podium places and losing the opportunity to change their female lives.

Edited to add that @Snowypeaks said the same thing but much more succinctly 😉

RethinkingLife · 11/08/2024 11:22

I write that with a little bit of sympathy, yes obviously IK should not be boxing women, yes obviously 'she' should know he's male - but I suspect IK may be spat out by the machine that has taken him up and cynically manufactured a women's Olympic medallist out of him.

There is an astonishing lack of career guidance and support for Olympians in some disciplines. Post-2012, I remember a slew of articles about the transition into developing a career when so many of them hadn't gone into HE and acquired qualifications etc.

There's even an acknowledged mental health impact effect.

Bradshaw, H., Howells, K., & Lucassen, M. (2021). Abandoned to manage the post-Olympic blues: Olympians reflect on their experiences and the need for a change. Qualitative Research in Sport, Exercise and Health, 14(5), 706–723. https://doi.org/10.1080/2159676X.2021.1993974

I heard one of the commentators say this very recently. Actually I think it was yesterday when Denise Lewis was being fêted at the end of the evening and they revealed it was her last year as a pundit as she’s leaving to take up a new job as President of UK Athletics. They played some archive footage and the presenter said something like ‘you're made for life now, you know'.

I'd very much like to know what the commentators, who are distinguished ex-athletes, really think about all….this.

thirdfiddle · 11/08/2024 11:26

I think Lin has escaped a lot of attention just by being scheduled a day later. The first male to beat up a woman got more attention. The first to get to the final. The first to win the gold medal.

(Always assuming it is first and hasn't happened at previous games when people weren't paying as much attention.)

spannasaurus · 11/08/2024 11:40

I think Lin has escaped a lot of attention because he's from a country with excellent health care and is reported as being the most LGBTQ friendly country in Asia. It much harder to spin the line that no one noticed there was an issue at puberty or that Lin would be in danger if outed as "intersex"

One thing this has exposed is that the gaslighting of using wrong sex pronouns is not a neutral act.

Not when it's excluding women from medals and fair competition. The use of wrong sex pronouns is what, I am sure, has convinced a lot of people who still think that the BBC, for example, is a credible news source.

But it's misinformation.

Catsmere · 11/08/2024 12:27

I would say especially if it means letting women get beaten up and be driven out of elite sport. I would say that's an added incentive for the men inflicting their injuries and the organisation allowing it to happen.

zibzibara · 11/08/2024 12:34

It's even happening here. I've had comments removed by MNHQ for referring to Imane and Lin as "he".

Lots of talk of how Bach will be stepping down and Coe will take his place and how this will be great move for women's sports but it just makes you realise that fairness and safety in women's sports apparently relies on the whims and fickleness of men.

Apparently, this is the driver for Semenya wanting to stand for the presidency of World Athletics, because the strategy and decision-making are ruled by men. (Semenya may be striving for relevance and froth, of course.)

TRA dismissing this and caring not a shit about female sports and also their dismissal
of the Cass review, confirms for me that they are simply insane.

Blimey, god help women if Semenya were to be elected as head of the ICO (or any sporting governing body or committee).

Totally agree. Forcing ppl to lie about someone’s sex is absolutely not neutral. It’s no surprise so many ppl think KH is a woman and CS for that matter when every article says she and her

Reading the most recent revelations about Khelif's training regimen, and Lin being 'invited' to the Games, my opinion of the IOC, and Bach in particular, sinks every lower. What a bunch of shits these people are. Has the Le Point story been picked up by the Anglophone press yet?

Let's email it to journos with a track record in being fair about women's sports.

Sally Hines calling anyone calling for sex screening a racist. I can't even work out the logic. How can screening for sex be racist?

This test she’s referring to, is it the one where you give your head a wobble to see if your brain falls out? If it does you pass the right think test. If it doesn’t because you’ve still got your critical faculties engaged, you’re a horrible bigot.
