Many people don’t understand the difference between imply and infer.

Shortshriftandlethal · 08/08/2024 11:58

xxuserxx · 08/08/2024 11:49

Whether someone wears male clothing or presents as a male in everyday life is irrelevant. What matters is whether they're actually male or female.

Of course, but what I'm challenging is the idea that these are just non conforming women who look a little masculine but who identify and present as women in their everyday lives.

MessinaBloom · 08/08/2024 12:00

@Shortshriftandlethal

When you say 'surface level' indicators, what do you mean?

I mean going beyond immediate impressions, not doing a deeper analysis of an image to consider sex differences.

Why should we not do research on athletes - of the type that is freely available on the internet?

Shortshriftandlethal · 08/08/2024 12:01

I research people/ public figures all of the time.

KeirSpoutsTwaddle · 08/08/2024 12:04

I followed Roumaysa Boualam on FB because I want to support women boxers in difficult situations.

And she is.

I felt a bit funny, but obviously FB is public by its settings. And I noticed that there seems to be a woman in the kit photos who is missing from the Olympics. I am wondering where she is.
Imane wasn’t in the kit photos, so I’m wondering when Imane joined the team.

KeirSpoutsTwaddle · 08/08/2024 12:05

Stop thinking ladies, you know it’s not good for your delicate little brains.

MessinaBloom · 08/08/2024 12:06

@NotBadConsidering

Luckily no one is doing this. Carry on with your life with relief.

Oh? You've read the full thread, then?

Maybe there was a question mark due to the IBA disqualification and then they decided to go ahead?

Just to be clear, I don't think we should speculate about the sex of other boxers. We don't have the information.
We know Khelif and Lin are men. They probably have a DSD and as far as I am concerned, they have put themselves up to be speculated about on that score. It's not pleasant, but boo hoo, cry me a river, etc. Several other sportsmen have withdrawn from women's competitions on discovering the truth. And that's me assuming extremely charitably that Lin and Khelif only found out in 2022/3023. They could have withdrawn without admitting openly to being male.

Be that as it may, the important point is that they are men, that the IOC knows they are men AND IS FINE WITH MEN BOXING AGAINST WOMEN.

The IOC are promoting men in women's sports, not just enabling it. The public doesn't yet realise that "women" is a mixed sex category according to the IOC.

Vespanest · 08/08/2024 12:13

The unintended consequences of watching what is mixed biological sex, whilst being gas lit that the competitors are all female but the word female doesn’t discriminate against biology. I haven’t speculated on line but there has been a few competitors I’ve felt suspect and not just boxing. It doesn’t help speculating but without it there is a real possibility that Caster and similar athletes would still be competing.

In racing every Thoroughbred foal born in Britain/Ireland has to be registered within 6 weeks of birth. Along with the paperwork (done digitally these days) you also have to return a blood and hair sample so that the foal’s DNA can be checked to confirm parentage. You’d be surprised to hear the stories of what has been turned up by these tests in the past!

Half donkey? 😉

And handed back their medals (voluntarily). And their records were cancelled.

Some people live the values of Rita Mae Brown's observation.

Sport strips away personality, letting the white bone of character shine through. Sport gives players an opportunity to know and test themselves.

I remember a Dick Francis novel where it all hinged on changing a foals birth date from 31st Dec to 1st Jan.

I wondered if the Algeria NOC had been tipped off that all the IOC would require for Olympic eligibility was an F in the passport, hence withdrawing the CAS appeal?

Yes that's because the "official birthday" for all Thoroughbreds born in the northern hemisphere is 1st Jan - that way it makes it easier to confine races by age as you can say any horse born in a particular year automaticaly becomes 1 year old on 1st Jan the following year.

There have been cases of people hiding foals for a few days if they are born on or before 31st December - I can recall one a few years ago where a disgruntled ex-employee blew the whistle on his former employer a few years after the event which resulted in the horse being retrospectively disqualified from all age confined races and winnings having to be paid back.

Officially it was 'Horse's birthday' in the Southern Hemisphere on 1st August. I said this to someone who thought I was nuts.
