Brilliant protest. A ray of hope in a crap week.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 07/08/2024 23:03

The XX signing protest is the best thing to come out of this. I hope it's going to spread around the world.

Suspect it’s simply a matter of there being more Algerian supporters present.

Yes, there are a lot of Algerian people, both first and second generation, who live in France and especially Paris.

What are their names?

Left: Svetlina Staneva
Centre: Unsure, possibly Yuwei Lin
Right: Esra Yildiz Kahraman

Staneva knows. She's the Bulgarian who got the bronze after Lin Yu-Ting was disqualified in the IBA championship.

This person, Hergie Bacyadan, is apparently an out transman boxer from the Philippines who competed in the women's competition this year against Li Qian of China. This article reports that they haven't transitioned. On Hergie's instagram there is a video of them dancing with a caption stating that they have never taken 'T' and never will. How does a female get to looking how they look without taking testosterone (which would of course be considered doping)?

This just gets weirder and weirder. A man pretending to be a trans man to compete against women. Yeah now I know why the IOC doesn't want to introduce blanket sex testing. Women's sport is a scam.

The video says woman to me? Confused

Googled to see Lin in another fight. Came up with the AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships 2019 Quarterfinals. Opponent is Nilawan Techasuep.

Just watching how they move, willing to bet these are two XY fighters.....

I hope you're right but I'm just waiting for the first deluded male TRA to do it on social media, because they think they've literally changed their sex.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 07/08/2024 23:48

Im sure they will. They'll look idiotic.

Again, still photos can be filtered so it’s entirely possible that a transman uses masculinising filters in the same way some transwomen use feminising filters. Let’s not get carried away here.

Omlettes · 08/08/2024 00:26

If this hasnt been posted before, excellent interview on Spectator TV about both this and trans in sport, with Marshi Smith, NCAA champion and co-founder of ICONS (Independent Council on Womens Sports).

Just reading about the spat at the UN between Russia and Algeria, the phrasing always sounds slightly off to me, khelif was born a female, grew up as a girl and fights as a woman. All of that is likely true but they do seem to be unable to state that khelif is a biological woman. Its almost like its too big a lie to say.

They never seem to flat-out say that the tests that said they're XY were truly invalid, just seem to be getting to hedge saying for reasons xyz they're women.

Snort

MessinaBloom · 08/08/2024 02:36

So you're at the point now of filtering through other female athletes to see if they look feminine enough for you? This also has more than a hint of racism to it as well. Horrifying.

Yet the IOC could stop all this easily. They won't.

InWalksBarberalla · 08/08/2024 04:17

I don't like being in the position of second guessing the sex of athletes competing in the female events, and wish the IOC would sort it.
However it does undo the argument that I've seen that it doesn't matter if certain boxers are XY because they don't always win (I've seen this argument on here and elsewhere) - because it could very well be that the boxers these XY boxers are losing to are also XY.

Hunglikeapolevaulter · 08/08/2024 04:26

Racism is a big accusation, can you clarify in more detail or withdraw your comment.

If you believe someone is being racist on MN you should report the post.

Making vague accusations doesn’t tackle racism.

Oh, and for the 100th bloody time, we don’t care about femininity, we care about femaleness.

I expected a response like this. "It's not our fault we're awful! They started it!" 🙄

Sex is really important to sports - it’s why we have two sexed categories for almost everything.

I realise you don’t care about the integrity of women’s sports but please stop mocking those of us who do.
