Sport at high level stands to make a lot of money and garner acclaim. If someone decides to allow males to participate in the female category then this will be taken advantage of. It's utterly inevitable.

Why bother to dope if you can change a man’s passport to F to get gold instead?

BeyondOlympicLevelProcrastinator · 07/08/2024 19:48

The other three may not have qualified, or if I'm being optimistic, may have withdrawn from competition on their results

puffyisgood · 07/08/2024 20:39

the Chinese Thaipei boxer is actually decent as well as having an insane reach advantage... but that first round scorecard was as bent as a nine bob note, sorry.

puffyisgood · 07/08/2024 20:48

made the xx sign, brilliant.

Helleofabore · 07/08/2024 20:48

That xx signal is great. The Turkish boxer Kahraman knew exactly who she was boxing.

KeirSpoutsTwaddle · 07/08/2024 17:04

Is that for me? Re the Algerian Boxing team? One of them ought to be Imane…

I don't think any looks like Imame, do you?

DontStopMe · 07/08/2024 20:49

Yes, I only caught the end of this, but I did see the xx.

I found these press images of the Khelif-Suwannapheng fight: https://www.gettyimages.in/photos/janjaem-suwannapheng?family=editorial

Thinking about previous posts, I started idly wondering if one of the reasons IOC is resisting taking the obvious steps to reassure national Olympic committees and the wider public about the women’s boxing event is because this is a more widespread problem and blanket testing would be even more embarrassing.

I'm definitely beginning to think the same. In fact I'm sure of it.

Motorina · 07/08/2024 20:51

I missed it. Does anyone have a link to the XX please.

ChateauMargaux · 07/08/2024 20:52

It looks like the XX gesture by boxers is 2024's version of 'no thank you'...

Terrible screenshot but it's a still from a video of Kellie Harrington dancing after her victory where she appears to do the double x sign with her body.

Ignore. Watching it on BBC now. Thanks!

One of the other suspected DSDs' was in the semi final against Khelif - Janjaem.

HipTightOnions · 07/08/2024 21:01

Did anyone else hear the 2nd BBC commentator say "Lin, he's skilful..."?

About 1:29 in first round.

yeah, i could be wrong but I thought I heard, "the Turkish woman", with, I'll admit, no particular emphasis on "woman", said maybe once more than I'd expect to hear by coincidence... and the word never used to describe the bloke? maybe the co-comms chap was trying to send a signal out?

duc748 · 07/08/2024 21:07

So what happened? Did Lin win?

Helleofabore · 07/08/2024 21:09

Shortshriftandlethal · 07/08/2024 20:49

I do suspect this too.

Edited

OMG how is this not news. I don't follow boxing, or sport at all really, and until this thread I was completely unaware that more than 2 of the "female" boxers might be male. And now I can't unsee it. Are there more?

Motorina · 07/08/2024 21:09

Lin won. All three rounds by all (five?) judges. Kahraman walked round the ring at the end doing the X sign with her fingers. BBC commentators ignored.

HipTightOnions · 07/08/2024 21:10

I hadn't noticed, but DH just said exactly that!

DuesToTheDirt · 07/08/2024 21:11

@Shortshriftandlethal where did you read which other boxers had been banned by the IBA?

@Catabogus Thanks! Crossposted - thread moving pretty fast.

Catabogus · 07/08/2024 21:20

Lin will now play Poland’s Julia Szeremeta on Saturday in the final. I suspect we may be seeing the X symbol again then.

CaveMum · 07/08/2024 21:20

Knock me down with a feather, but the BBC have acknowledged the X sign too!
