We know the IOC have had complaints both Italy and Hungary complained. That has been mentioned in the news so its definitely 2.

I wonder about the pressure being put on the women competing by their national Olympic committees, coaches etc. They must be under so much stress, being told to ignore what their own eyes a tell them and carry on for the sake of their country etc, etc. And of course this is what they have trained years for. Let's have a sympathetic article on them on the BBC

You're right, and speaking to my friend who was formerly an Olympian, if you speak out about something the IOC don't like, then you will be punished by exclusion from future Olympics. These women would only be able to say something if they knew it was their last Olympics.

I stumbled across this article, it suggests spending too much time thinking about trans people or genitalia may not be healthy.

Tell that to the folks on Twitter proclaiming this individual has, I quote, "a uterus and a womb."

kiterunning · 07/08/2024 08:21

Surely it's time for an undercover investigation.
I feel that the press have been silenced.
Maybe they've been told they'll lose accreditation for future Olympics.
The contrast between their pathetic articles and the comments from the public is very obvious.
Intelligent women, and a large proportion of men get this.

I have thought of this, too. Where are the whistleblowers? Where is investigative journalism?

Each person that doesn't speak up is complicit in deceiving the public and damaging the Olympic movement.

Trust me when I say most people want to think about genitalia in sports lot less.

If the IOC had reliable sex testing, there would be absolutely no need to. Win, win.

@LiveInTheLandAndDoGood

I don't know! To punish the IOC for kicking them out maybe? It just seems extremely unlikely to me, but he's been sold it, probably because he's a political progressive who has never thought about the protection of women's sport before.

He's on the right track, though. The IBA is the first sporting federation to be ousted from the IOC. They aren't going to go away without causing significant tremors in their wake, and they've done this quite effectively, IMO.

Dunno about that. They'd have been more effective without that car crash of a press conference. As it is, they've given the gender loons all the excuse they need to dismiss the issue.

Oooh i was wondering where you'd been this last week or so

They've been all over the various AIBU threads.

Agreed, that didn't help.

The information was excellent. The organisation awful. The press appalling.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 07/08/2024 09:58

Yes, Dr Emma Hilton said yesterday that she felt they were using it as "misdirection" to avoid tackling the issue.

Ah @Christinapple bless again. The comments on that Indy article show that the world sees through this, and those who don't are working very hard to keep those scales over their eyes.

XY advantage is XY advantage regardless of observed genitalia, as Semenya has proven. But genitals! is just the shrieking distraction argument by people who have no other rational thinking to fall back on.

This is very true. The obsession with going on about 'genital facism' and 'why are you obsessed with her genitals' and all that nonsense makes me laugh. They're called secondary sex characteristics for a reason, they're really not that important in the scheme of things! Its the primary sex organs that count, testes or ovaries and whether you have gone down the male or female development pathway and benefited from a male puberty or not.

IME it individuals with a penis that are rather fond of it that place disproportionate importance on it 😄

BeyondOlympicLevelProcrastinator · 07/08/2024 10:13

It's purely a thought experiment as it isn't gonna happen, but imagine there was a biologically female competing for the males pole vault, without the worry of the 'ahem' biological issue that the French guy had this week.

Men wouldn't let that stand 🤷🏼‍♀️ they'd be screaming about athletes genitalia from the rooftops!

ThreeWordHarpy · 07/08/2024 10:14

when it all comes out in the future, the shambolic IBA conference means that at least the excuse this time can’t be that people didn’t listen because the women were being mean and shrill.

FFS, we’re not expecting the journalists to be Woodward and Bernstein. The information is right there out in the open if they had the intellectual honesty and curiosity to look and listen. Just do their basic job.

CaveMum · 07/08/2024 10:19

There are some journalists trying to lift the lid. Alan Abrahamson has got the closest to getting it out there, but he’s not been picked up by the mainstream.

I've wondered why none of the articles about this have any discussion about the IOC's rules and the fact that they are more lenient than the those of the bodies that oversee swimming, athletics etc. And the implications that has on safety and fairness in women's sports. Are they being censored or are they just uninterested?

BeyondOlympicLevelProcrastinator · 07/08/2024 10:36

To be fair to the Mail, they did include a fair bit of the info re athletics having different regulations

RoyalCorgi · 07/08/2024 10:38

Christinapple (or Adamsapple, as I prefer to think of you)

Let me explain something to you. I'll do it as plainly as I can because you don't strike me as being the sharpest knife in the drawer.

No one sane, trust me, wants to spend any time at all thinking about the genitals of Imane Khelif. However, because many of us are concerned about the fact that women are being forced to put their safety at risk by being put in a boxing ring with a man, pointing out that Khelif has male genitalia is the most obvious way of demonstrating to the lunatics and idiots that Khelif is actually male.

This may come as a shock to you, but a passport is not a reliable indicator of a person's sex. When a new mother asks the midwife "Is it a boy or a girl?" the midwife doesn't say "I don't know, I'll have to check their passport."

In the overwhelming majority of cases, external genitalia are a reliable indicator of whether a person is male or female.

This entire problem could have been solved by not putting a man up to fight in a women's competition in the first place. That's on you and your fellow-travellers.

I hope this is clear enough for you to understand. If you're still having difficulty, perhaps someone else can come along and explain it in very simple toddler-level language.

Rightsraptor · 07/08/2024 10:54

We don't spend time thinking about anyone's genitals, we spend time discussing the unfairness of men self-IDing into women's sports and stealing our stuff.

If you'd been watching Patrick Christys's show on GB News a couple of nights ago, you'd have heard Benjamin Butterworth (he of the 'Buttergasp' fame from a couple of years back) shouting 'she's got a cervix!' about Kelif. Setting aside the point that I'd lay good money on Butterworth having no idea what or where a cervix actually is, it clearly shows at least one men's rights activist is obsessed with TW's reproductive organs.

Very important quote

Vespanest · 07/08/2024 11:17

The IOC won the battle in this competition, unless a female boxer is shockingly hurt which for many is a high bar the boxing will continue and medals and history book wrote as the same gameplay was followed as 2016. As soon as the boxers were the victims negative speech was curtailed. Even ignoring the athletes and concentrating on the eligibility is deemed bad faith. The most that can now be hoped for is the pressure to change regulations or to have a sporting body step up who has sex testing for the next Olympics just as the Caster scenario things can change but it will be too late for these females and this Olympics

Plasmodesmata · 07/08/2024 11:22

I read somewhere that boxing's place in 2028 Olympics is not yet confirmed, due to all the regulatory chaos. So it might not be a problem at the next Olympics, if there is no boxing to enter.
