Presumably the baby, not that it matters.

But how can that be a girl if they're not in female clothing. After all, that's the level of proof that's being offered up in support

BBC News - Boxer Khelif's uncle describes her tough upbringing
https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cy5442g3vxlo

Doesn't actually appear to be any consensus about how many brothers and how many sisters. You'd think Imane's uncle would know how many nephew and nieces he has. I note this BBC article contradicts itself. Girls stay inside, only boys play outside but imane was discovered by a coach while playing football with the boys

Olympic boxer Imane Khelif’s uncle describes her tough upbringing

The uncle of boxer Imane Khelif, whose Olympics has been hit by a gender eligibility row, says she's faced "bullying".

I don't know how to link whole TwiX threads, but this one is very interesting...

I think it's quite possible that the little girl in the family photo is Imane Khelif - the features looks similar, this could be how they would have looked before male puberty and getting punched in the boxing ring kicked in..

The child on the left is presumably the tomboy sister who said 'Yuk, I don't want any of those flowers in MY hair, Mum!'

IK does 'present' as a woman, however unconvincingly - she is is a UNICEF Ambassador- 'Ambassadrice de l’UNICEF en Algérie' - while the Inter Milan footballer Ismaël Bennacer is a 'Ambassadeur'.

In the photo below, IK is on the left, Bennacer is on the right, and the person in the suit and tie (!) in the middle is a woman from UNICEF, Katarina Johansson.
Imane's image is less bloke-ish than Caster Semenya's, isn't it? I can't help thinking that he looks like a singer from a 1980s pop group - the vaguely androgynous clothes, the make-up.. Maybe David Sylvian?

If that little girl is IK, it is a good illustration of the confusion that growing up with a DSD must cause, going from being a sweet-looking little girl to a big strong ... person; and as many previous posters have said, what a pity IK, and anybody else in her situation, wasn't diagnosed earlier and given all the love and understanding and support that a child in those difficult circumstances needs.

Still shouldn't be boxing women, though...

’discovered by a coach’ or ‘scouted by a cheating coach who specifically looks for potential DSD athletes’?

How does the commentator sit with telling the opponent to get closer to what is a bloke landing punches, she needs to what be braver and try harder. I’d rather he said nothing

I was coming to say this. It's disgusting. She can't get close because of that "long reach"

NoBinturongsHereMate · 06/08/2024 21:54

Do boxing coaches typically discover people by watching them play other sports? (I have no idea - maybe they do, or maybe a fist fight broke out after a contested penalty corner.)

I can’t remember who said it on a previous thread, but it really is like watching when an older brother holds a sister at arms length and she can’t do anything about it because her arms are shorter.

yeah, looks like a better athlete with better cardio who's just outmatched physically. who'd have thought it. i don't see how even Olympic boxing's notoriously bent scorecards could give her anything.

Vespanest · 06/08/2024 21:59

Khelif is actually a pretty shit boxers in regards to skills. I actually believe the commentator wants the female to get hurt. That was horrific

PepeParapluie · 06/08/2024 22:00

Dreadful. Poor Suwannapheng. The advantage is just too great. I can’t imagine the frustration for these poor female boxers.

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 06/08/2024 22:01

Oh look another 5-0 decision. This is completely shit

Mollyollydolly · 06/08/2024 22:03

It's gaslighting on a scale I couldn't have imagined. I genuinely feel like I'm going mad after watching that.

Hotsausage2 · 06/08/2024 22:04

What a bloody insult to women’s boxing. Disgusting. I just watched a male beat up a female on global tv and being cheered on for it

kiterunning · 06/08/2024 22:04

This commentary is a fucking disgrace.
'Ooh that was a bit closer- she just needs to do a, b and c and get closer etc etc
Another battered women.

Vespanest · 06/08/2024 22:07

I stupidly thought boxing would be a tipping point but no the commentator was full of pride, admiration and sympathy for the male and the female just needs to try harder. I thought the referee looked uncomfortable.

kiterunning · 06/08/2024 22:09

And to hear Steve Roberts of the IBA interviewed on radio five beforehand and waffling on about the 'chromosome thing' has made me almost demented with anger.
What an absolutely mind blowing ignoramus he is.

rabbitwoman · 06/08/2024 22:15

I am watching the next match - the winner will go on to face Khalif in the final.

It's so different. Khalif seemed so relaxed, almost lazy in that match whereas these two are zipping and dancing about the ring so much faster.

annejumps · 06/08/2024 22:16

When is the Taiwanese boxer's next bout?

Me too. I don’t watch boxing so don’t pretend to know anything about it, but this does look like watching a different sport compared to the Khelif match.

GerbilsAllTheWayDown · 06/08/2024 22:22

The head wobble of Suwannapheng in the slow mo shots of her getting punched made me feel sick. Khelif's head barely moved when he got punched (as I noticed happened in the previous match between two women). This is so wrong.

The audience booing Suwannapheng when she came on was awful. Shame on them!

kiterunning · 06/08/2024 22:31

Where are the doctors? Where is the duty of care? Compare this to rugby.

rabbitwoman · 06/08/2024 22:32

I am now watching kellie Harrington in the 60kg final.

It's astonishing. These are such phenomenal female athletes, their skill level is obviously head and shoulders above Khalif. So insulting that Khalif does not even have to try.

Also, the boxers are of course grunting as they box. Very easy to identify that they are female just from the noises they make. Khalif sounds like a man.
