TWO “Female Boxers” Set To Compete At Paris 2024 Were Previously Disqualified From Women’s World Championship For Having “XY Chromosomes” | Mumsnet

Surely this cannot be true. In boxing of all sports. I thought boxing had told men they needed to compete with other men? *”Two athletes competing at...

A 3rd category is the place for trans people to compete.

Is this definitely true?

Yes, why else would I say it?

BBC news last night.

I think he does have a very feminine voice looking at other videos …

Maybe, but on the news last night - Khelif was speaking in the background, but a British, obviously female voice was super-imposed. They could have used sub -titles.

LaeralSilverhand · 05/08/2024 20:47

Interviews aren’t generally dubbed, that would have been an interpreter.

Yes, that's the right word......but the interpreter was used as a stand in for actually hearing Kehlif speak themselves.

WTF? It doesn't matter that a sporting federation - one that you all think is so wonderful right now - is corrupt?

We don't think they are wonderful, they just did their job on this occasion. It's not difficult.

You don't get to decide that for her.

Have you really considered what it must be like for her?

I (sincerely) hope nothing like DSD ever happens to someone you love, because people can really be cruel.

And yes, I mean you.

Leaving the thread now.

I cried my eyes out watching Keely win (already said my hormones are doolally today!) - it's the significance of it being the 800m I think, re the related 2016 controversy

Any idea of the comparative winning times? Semenya? Hodgkinson?

What it's like to be a man punching women in the face for money? Yes I've considered it.

Mark Adams, the committee’s spokesman, said: “These athletes have been competing in senior competitions for six years with no issues.

No issues apart from being banned.

..and no issues apart from the womens' teams making complaints......

So we have not just the IBA, but the WBO and the European boxing confederation presidents saying these boxers are male. We have two independent WADA and CAS accredited labs saying these boxers are male.

At what point will it sink in that these boxers are in fact male?

You have to wonder? When people don't even trust the evidence and experience of their own eyes.

This was posted, from Orwell's '1984', yesterday.

“The party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command...”

Plasmodesmata · 06/08/2024 08:42

For person who asked above about comparing 800m winning times, they're available online e.g. here

CautiousLurker · 06/08/2024 08:44

IOC is historically rife with corruption - stories from 2004 and 2017 filled the papers with details of backhanders and bribery - but no, let’s disregard anything from the shambles (and it is currently a shambles) of the IBA, despite the fact that the tests were done by two independent accredited labs and the fact that several other world and European boxing federations support their findings?

The tests were done because competitors and coaches from other countries were making complaints to the IBA and raising queries - so much for they’ve been competing for years without it being an issue - it’s been an issue since the beginning!

The way to resolve this is to reintroduce tests.

yourhairiswinterfire · 06/08/2024 08:50

Have you really considered what it must be like for her?

Imane and Lin accepted the results of the labs confirming that they were male. Twice.

They know that they're male and they're choosing to punch women in the head anyway.

But yes, the most important thing here is their feelings 🙄

My sympathy is with the women being beaten up by men for sport in front of millions, who have had their shot at the Olympics ruined because the IOC doesn't give a shit about fairness or safety for women boxers.

Exactly. This has been brought up several times and handwaved away.

Don’t stop pointing out the obvious, Arabella!

It is remarkable how the women are ignored here. By here, I mean by posters who centre these male athletes.

KeirSpoutsTwaddle · 06/08/2024 08:50

I imagine a training and preparation regime for an elite sport with high stakes involves fairly in depth medicals to ensure nutrition, lung function, blood work etc were all at optimum.
I’m tying to imagine that regime failing to notice some anomalous information.

I’m failing.

So, Semenya's win was 1,55,28.........and Hodginkson's was 1,56,72

Looking at those tables the African record holder for 800M is Pamela Jelimo - who almost certainly is another DSD ( looking at her wikipedia page and also at photos)

Her high school games teacher Philip Ng'eno remarked that she used to compete with the boys in sprint events as the girls did not provide the competition she needed.

Dentalflossie · 06/08/2024 09:12

To the olympic committee and all other sporting bodies.
If you are going to have women-only events then you need to restrict them to women participants. There is only one test:
XX=woman
XY= man
Anything else is nonsense.

Edited

I’m a bit uncomfortable with going through past winners and declaring them to have DSDs! I don’t see any evidence to suggest Pamela Jelimo has anything of the kind - she has a usual women’s height and physique and, in fact, I believe she has given birth to a daughter.

SabrinaThwaite · 06/08/2024 09:34

WTF? It doesn't matter that a sporting federation - one that you all think is so wonderful right now - is corrupt? Baked-in corruption means any and all decisions and actions made by an organisation are suspect. Of course it matters. It does also matter who is controlling the federation.

If you think that the IOC hasn’t got a very lengthy and well documented history of corruption, then I’ve got a bridge to sell you.

KeirSpoutsTwaddle · 06/08/2024 09:35

However, @Catabogus , I think record holders should get additional scrutiny, otherwise women will wonder whether the record can ever be matched by fair contenders.

NoBinturongsHereMate · 06/08/2024 09:35

Kucinghitam · 06/08/2024 06:47

Maybe "corruption" is an irregular noun? Grin

It is.

  • They are corrupt.
  • You are operating in a moral grey area.
  • I understand the value of pragmatic flexibility for the greater good.
Zita60 · 06/08/2024 09:36

Linda Blade has written a useful article for Reality's Last Stand detailing the history of the IOC's descent into gender madness - I don't think it's been posted here before (apologies if it has).
