Was just listening to Ross Tucker's second short podcast which covered our friend from the IOC, Mark's press conference from earlier. I was quite shocked that Mark mentioned the story about Khelif being tested because they beat a Russian. I find it astounding that an Olympic official would basically repeat some social media flim flam to try to throw shade on the testing.

If it were true, is the idea that the Russians did the tests because their boxer was beaten and just got lucky that the tests came back positive? Or is Mark saying the tests/labs are dodgy? In which case, in true CSI/Silent Witness style why don't all the other athletes who got tests results from the same lab sue because the lab has now been discredited by the supreme gods of the Olympics!

I don’t believe they did test after the bout. I believe they carried out the blood test BEFORE (17 March as stated in today’s press conference) the bout (which was on 21 March as per the schedule). It was the results which were received after the bout, not the testing.

Very useful, thanks @rogdmum

So the only time either of them boxed a Russian opponent was Khelif on 21 March 2023, when the sample had already been taken 4 days before.

This is what I can't square: the insistence on social media that in conservative Islamic Algeria, where they hate LGBT people, they'd never send a trans person to the Olympics (despite Khelif never having claimed to be trans), but, one the other hand, firstly K did not take up the opportunity to contest her ban with the CAS? Why? And secondly, how does the 'conservative Algeria' meme tie in all these photoshoots of her in male attire?

What I find more implausible is the fact that, given Kh largely presented at best as very gender non-conforming but at worst as a man, in a country where LBGT etc is banned as well as being trans (ie presenting as a trans man)… that everyone didn’t, in fact know, he is a man? I think he has known he is a man with a DSD for years and it’s an open secret… otherwise, he’d be in prison?

duc748 · 05/08/2024 21:03

I think he has known he is a man with a DSD for years and it’s an open secret

Well, Occam's razor and all that. What other explanation fits the facts of what's happened so far?

spannasaurus · 05/08/2024 21:20

I just watched a sky news interview with Mark from ICO. One of his comments about the IBA president was "Kremlev, interesting name, interesting links"
I'm not sure whether Kremlev is a russian name or maybe he just thought that it sounds like Kremlin but the level of argument he's using is just ridiculous. Also claimed that Khelif was only tested as he was against a russian

SinnerBoy · 05/08/2024 21:25

Kremlev is an ethnic Uzbek, but was born in Russia and has Russian citizenship.

I think he does have a very feminine voice looking at other videos …

The one where Imane is sitting, wearing a checked shirt, talking to a TV presenter, with his sentences more broken with pauses, does sound more just like some young men do.

I note they didn't alow Khelif's actual voice to be heard - they over-dubbed it with an obviously female voice.

I wouldn't be surprised, the BBC dubbed a woman's voice over Zachily Bridge's unhinged rant, last year. When them said it was "trans genocide," to bar they from women's cycling.

Thank you. For some reason I thought he was Hungarian.

Simpler explanation: they used an interpreter.

Bridges is British - why would they have needed an interpreter?

To translate "waaaaaaaaaaaaaah it's whinge whinge whinge whinge whinge waaaaaaah" into "I disagree with their decision and believe they have made a mistake"?

rogdmum · 05/08/2024 22:24

Bloody hell. Look at the IOC response to the IBA’s letter to them in 2023 with the test results.

they do not care about the safety of their female boxers. They do not care. 😡

That letter is awful. They knew and just don't care.

ArabellaScott · 05/08/2024 22:38

Even despite parts of the IBA being batshit and the presser being a disaster.

The IOC are the ones actually looking evil, the fucking liars.

Vespanest · 05/08/2024 22:47

Even in that letter the only concern was for the boxers and their privacy, the consequences of inclusion was completely written off

Ingenieur · 05/08/2024 22:53

IOC are blaming GDPR? Wild!

I know them's from Yorkshire, but them doesn't speak in Pitmatic.

ThreeWordHarpy · 05/08/2024 23:10

In a side note, was anyone watching the main BBC1 coverage just before 10pm? Clare Balding was celebrating Keely Hodgkinson‘s achievement and said “she” with a slight pause after it, and segued into a highlights reel with a version of “she” as the backing track. Given this is the race that was won in Rio by Caster Semanya with two other athletes with the same DSD taking silver and bronze, I thought it was an … interesting choice of music.

[ If theres a subversive MNetter on the BBC Olympics production team making that kind of choice then well done and carry on]

duc748 · 05/08/2024 23:15

Keely Hodgkinson‘s race I did catch; it's about the only bit of proper Olympics I've watched! But that was on Eurosport, so I didn't see Clare Balding. Keely's from just up the road, so I'm sure the local press will be all over it.

BeyondOlympicLevelProcrastinator · 05/08/2024 23:19

I cried my eyes out watching Keely win (already said my hormones are doolally today!) - it's the significance of it being the 800m I think, re the related 2016 controversy

To continue in my translating role...

The letter says Dear IBA go fuck yourself. Love IOC. Kisses.XY.

Interesting report, has a good go at jk Rowling, has a go at everyone over the Dutch pedophile. Does seem to overall suggest they shouldn't be in the women's, probably, but then when I scroll down to the next story its appropriately about a penis. Its almost like the reporter knows they have to say these are women but reading between the lines concedes they aren't.

Imane Khelif is world’s first fictional trans Olympian - she is NOT 'male'

“IF it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck . . . then get it the duck out of the Olympic Games” appears to be messaging from Paris 2024. Many, then, think boxers Imane Khel…
