Help me present evidence to my son

My DS is 18 and heavy into the TWAW belief. He thinks JK Rowling is a despicable human being for her position and thinks that women should have no problem with all of this, and it's all just "scare-mongering" to say otherwise. Whenever I try to talk to him about this I end up getting too emotional to be rational. I really want to present him with evidence that this movement is not good for women - please help direct me to some good resources. Thank you.

OK, let me put it in legal terms for you.

If you make serious allegations about someone which are not true and which risk causing them reputational damage, this is defamation.

You can defend yourself against legal action for defamation by proving that what you have said about that person is true.

In this thread, you have made potentially defamatory remarks about JK Rowling, accusing her of transphobia and hatred and inciting violence against trans people.

From a legal point of view, if she saw your comments and decided to take legal action against you, you would need to provide evidence that what you said about her is true. If you could not, you would be guilty of defamation and you could be ordered to pay her compensation.

In reality, you're just a tiny fish in a big, scummy pond with thousands of other fish who are also defaming her. She's not going to get her lawyers to write to a little fish like you.

But in theory, if she did see your posts and felt minded to do something about it, if you weren't able to back up your claims about her, you could be in deep shit.

Just stick to the facts and don't make it political. Human beings are a species differentiated by sex between males and females. Males are XY. Females are XX. It's coded in every cell and it isn't computer programming that can be rewritten. Sex is immutable. If you are XY, you cannot be XX, and no amount of gender affectation or cosmetic surgery will allow a person with gender dysphoria to overcome this biological reality. It's about gametes for reproduction. XY leads to sperm cell production. XX leads to egg production.

When you get drawn into debate about sports and DSDs, the scientific answer is that you are talking about biological males with male only hormonal conditions leading to birth defects. The fact they were born with ambiguous genitals and mistaken for baby girls doesn't change that fact (tragic as it is). XY always equals male, even if that male is incapable of fathering children, just as some women XX are incapable of conceiving children.

The point is that transgenderism isn't based in science. It's a political movement. And he needs to be sceptical about all political claims, because that's another facet of adult maturity.

Transgender people exist and the science isn’t from the bible or high school biology tainted by school board ideology or trans hatred from Tory government guidelines from an ultra right ideologue which covers USA and uk, not sure about Canada but it seems there’s a big anti trans ballroom there too.

No worries. He's young and the politics of it has now lumped transgenderism in with issues of sexuality (gay/lesbian), which is profoundly unhelpful. Lots of young people support transgenderism as "allies" because they don't want to repeat the mistakes and struggles for equal rights for homosexuals. The two issues are not however the same and the tragedy is that new mistakes are being made. A person's sexuality is a matter for the private realm. It makes no odds to heterosexual people whether others form same sex relationships. Thus, supporting it in law and ethics and celebrating same sex families is cost free. It increases liberty because no one is harmed. The same is not true of transgenderism, which requires the erasure of women's rights. So transgender rights are not cost free. It reduces the liberty of women because it reduces the protections they have secured over 200 years of feminist struggle. It's a form of misogyny to think men can tell women that it's an open category that men can simply join. And sometimes men support it because unconsciously they want to cast out un-men from there own group because it challenges there gendered idea of masculinity).

But I would avoid this argument for another ten or fifteen years. By the time your DS has kids of his own, it will all come into focus.
