TWO “Female Boxers” Set To Compete At Paris 2024 Were Previously Disqualified From Women’s World Championship For Having “XY Chromosomes”

Surely this cannot be true. In boxing of all sports. I thought boxing had told men they needed to compete with other men?

”Two athletes competing at the Paris Olympics as “women” were previously disqualified from a women’s world championship for having “XY chromosomes.” Imane Khelif of Algeria and Lin Yu-Ting of Taiwan are scheduled to compete in Olympic women’s boxing next week despite past questions surrounding their biological sex.”

I wouldn’t call Khelif ‘not a great boxer’. Came 5th in Tokyo, one loss away from a medal. Has won medals in various competitions - women’s of course.

olympics.com/en/paris-2024/athlete/imane-khelif_1540353

Hubbard like Lia Thomas was a classic AGP transitioned to being a woman as an adult for fetish reasons. Both of them needed validation, victory was only part of it. Both of them seem to have shown signs of not trying too hard in some events to deliberately obscure their male strength at times. I don't think Khelif thinks like that.

Kehlif clearly has some form of DSD. He was brought up in a sexist society which because his body was different his family decided he had to be a girl. There are photos of him dressed as a girl when young. This is not because of some new trans thinking, this is traditional gender stereotyping and oppression of those with DSDs.

So probably his life has been pretty awful. Because of this sport was probably a huge escape for him, male hormones made fighting really acceptable. Look at him he obviously went through some form of male puberty. So I think Hubbard and Khelif represent different examples of gender nonsense - the similarities are that women get targeted.

With male strength Khelif could outdo a lot of women easily without having to work hard which made him a lazy boxer. However he then had to face exceptional female athletes and in the 2020 Olympics he was found wanting he could use advantages to out power opponents he could not out fight them. Amy Broadhurst, the Irish boxer, who defeated him in the European finals in 2022 had superior fighting technique and willpower and took him down despite a 5 inch height difference. She comes from a boxing family had loads of brothers - so she was ready to deal with his power level.

If you have the advantage of landing blows up to 2.6 times stronger than your opponents and you still lose you are not a great boxer. Khelif has probably developed his skill since 2022 though. This is why this is so dangerous.

Hubbard knew he was a man on some level. Khelif doesn't I think like that I believe, that would mean questioning his entire society, in fact he thinks he is fighting to defend Algeria against some Colonial threat and westerners are trying to oppress him and his country. Men fighting for their country are dangerous.

"Madeleine Pape, an Australian former middle distance Olympian, and the IOC’s Gender Equality, Diversity and Inclusion specialist told Welsh BBC: “The IOC recognises that trans women are women. We need to get away from an abstract debate that sees this as potentially calling into question the existence of a women’s category altogether.”'

What - if you don't play nice, we will take away your competition?

This is the IOC Guidance: https://stillmed.olympics.com/media/Documents/Beyond-the-Games/Human-Rights/IOC-Framework-Fairness-Inclusion-Non-discrimination-2021.pdf#_ga=2.219716894.621299853.1686571450-594927581.1678187184.

Almost every line of this framework says: If a man says they are a woman, they can compete in the women's category, should not be expected to undergo testing, or for it to be assumed that they have an advantage, should be given paths to complain and contest the decision... there is not a single mention of protecting the female category.

It is a truly infuriating read and unbelievable that the IOC puts identity above all... and even when women are mentioned - it 'must ensure that athletes are not excluded solely on the basis of their identity or sex variations.'

MADNESS!!!! THE WOMEN"S CATEGORY MUST BE ON THE BASIS OF SEX AND SEX ALONE!!

Madeleine needs to sit down with one of those books that explain what happens when mummy and daddy have a special cuddle.

I see in the papers today a woman swimmer has been sent home for being inappropriate with her boyfriend and breaking rules. We have the woman gymnast who couldn't compete for breaking smoking rules, and the woman rider who was barred due to her treatment of her horse.

And then we have the IOC bending over backwards for a child rapist and for men to enjoy competing against women, even at the risk of a woman being killed.

Sometimes you don't see these things unless they're pointed out to you!

Yes, the woman swimmer was sent home. Her boyfriend, also a competitor, was not.

The IOC are peaking the world. This is before the fights happen.

Well that article goes on about men, talks about 'transgenders', the lot. Completely disregarding any guidelines!

Or maybe they don't have to adhere to guidelines if they're quoting someone else.

According to the International Olympic Committee's 2021 guidelines on gender identity and sex variations, the organisation aims to ensure that 'athletes are not excluded solely on the basis of their transgender identity or sex variations' while also striving to create an environment in which 'no participant has an unfair and disproportionate advantage over the rest'.

Absolute gobbledygook.

And no one is excluding them because they're trans. They're excluding them because they're men.

Wow, here's me (ex-Graud reader) falling in love with the Daily Mail more and more these days...

They say you go more right wing as you get older... but I just think those that think they're "progressive" have gone nuts and I've stayed exactly where I was...

I don't think I've got any more right-wing as I've got older, but maybe I've got a bit better at detecting bullshit!

Well that's quite the summary.

Sport by men for men.

What is the status of these men? Are they presenting themselves as transwomen or 'intersex' or what?

I feel the same! Guardian reader for years and years, discovered the real reason Hadley Freeman (who I loved) left the paper and also I had previously been upset at Suzanne Moore being forced out too. I'd never taken to LOJ and always found his articles very smug and preachy so it wasn't hard to imagine him being behind the bullying campaign of Suzanne. As I am not on social media I didn't realise until coming on here that he's got form for it. And that the Guardian wouldn't ever address it. Hadley leaving just was the final straw for me, although I do still appreciate the Observer; particularly Sonia sodha's articles. She still gets to highlight problems without too much push back. It's good to see those articles appearing on the online website.

They are claiming to be biological women. They say the test which exposed them was unfair.

International Boxing Association (IBA) president Umar Kremlev said that a DNA test had shown Khelif to have XY chromosomes, and that they "were trying to fool their colleagues and pretend to be women". The International Olympic Committee (IOC) later said that Khelif had been disqualified due to elevated levels of testosterone.

So it seems there is some uncertainty whether the test was genetic or based on testosterone.

Found an interesting account by the Irish woman who defeated Khelif in 2021 Olympics.

Kellie Harrington said she was "overwhelmed with emotions" after securing Ireland's fourth medal of the Olympic Games in a lightweight quarter-final victory over Algeria's Imane Khelif on Tuesday.
Harrington won the fight by unanimous decision, and will face Thailand's Sudaporn Seesondee in a semi-final on Thursday for a chance to upgrade her medal from a bronze to a silver or gold.
"She was throwing from real far but making mad grunting noises, like 'Whooooh', and I was like, 'Oh my God, what is this?'" Harrington told RTÉ about her win against Khelif.
"She had really long arms. It was hard to get in, and do what I would like to do. It wasn't an amazing fight, but it was a fight that I won.

"She was smiling at me and sticking out her tongue. I was just smiling back, as if to say, 'Look, it's all fun and games until my hand gets lifted'."

I'm sorry what? Officials really saying being a "woman on your passport" is all it takes to meet eligibility criteria?

What utter sick fucks.

Would they be describing a person who has a dsd as xyy or xxy or just xy chromosomes and not mention what type for gdpr purposes?

This article from the RTE News in Ireland claims there is no evidence that they are not biological women, apart from Telegram post by an IBA official?

If there is doubt, why can't the IOC do a cheek swab?

Because the IOC's regulations for Boxing would not exclude these male athletes, even with a cheek swab. The IBA excludes them based on their current policy. But the IBA regulations are ignored by the IOC in this instance.

spannasaurus · 31/07/2024 17:25

If I was a female boxer who was mistakenly being referred to as a man I would insist that a chromosome test was performed to prove my sex. It's surprising that these two boxers have not insisted on the same

SabrinaThwaite · 31/07/2024 17:30

It was reported at the time that both of these boxers had been excluded from the 2023 World Champs in Delhi:

Algeria’s Imane Khelif has been disqualified from the International Boxing Association (IBA) Women’s World Boxing Championships here after the worldwide governing body ruled that she had failed to meet eligibility rules.

Khelif was set to face Yang Liu of China in the welterweight final at the K.D Jadhav Indoor Hall in Indian capital New Delhi today only to be excluded from the event.

^insidethegames has been informed that double world champion Lin Yu-ting of Chinese Taipei, who had been due to collect a featherweight bronze medal, has also been excluded after it was found that she had failed to pass the IBA's eligibility criteria too.^

According to Algerian media, Khelif conducted a hormone test where it was found that she had too high a level of testosterone in her system.

"A boxer from Algeria Imane Khelif was excluded from the IBA World Boxing Championships due to the failure to meet the IBA eligibility criteria," a statement from the IBA read.

"The IBA upholds its rules and regulations as well as its athletes’ personal and medical privacy, the eligibility criteria breach therefore cannot be shared by the IBA."

https://www.insidethegames.biz/articles/1135205/khelif-disqualified-eligibility-rules

The IBA rules state that it can conduct gender tests at any of its competitions.

The IBA statement infers its a medical issue.

If the exclusion was for doping, then the statement would have said this.

The RTE article seems to be centring on claims that the boxers are transgender, or lack of evidence other than the IBA President's Telegram post, when its much more likely they they are both DSD athletes and that the IBA wouldn't make that officially public.

I wish journalists would speak plainly and do their job.. investigate and report on the facts.

Throwing in a picture of Putin... well no one wants to side with him.

Let's get back to the footballers ... we do know they are XY...

And no one... as far as I can tell.... has said the boxers are XX... they have said 'They are women'... and we know the IOC think men are women if the men say they are... so .. that is not evidence.

Someone is lying... let's look at the evidence... .

IOC says: let men be women if they identify as women, let's not assume they have an advantage, let's not ask them, let's tell everyone it is not fair to share medical details and let's threaten the journalists.

Women say.. Jeez, that was terrifying... this feels wrong... that player looks like an XY,

Journalists say.. They are a great player, they deserve the biggest fees, these defenders need to be quicker, smarter, better.

Everyone is playing by the rules. Nothing to see here... oh yeah... you are a Russia supporter if you don't agree with the IOC.

ChateauMargaux · 31/07/2024 19:03

@biddyboo... still no one claiming they are XX.
