TWO “Female Boxers” Set To Compete At Paris 2024 Were Previously Disqualified From Women’s World Championship For Having “XY Chromosomes”

Surely this cannot be true. In boxing of all sports. I thought boxing had told men they needed to compete with other men?

”Two athletes competing at the Paris Olympics as “women” were previously disqualified from a women’s world championship for having “XY chromosomes.” Imane Khelif of Algeria and Lin Yu-Ting of Taiwan are scheduled to compete in Olympic women’s boxing next week despite past questions surrounding their biological sex.”

It surely would be the work of moments for Ting and Khelif (and any athletes competing in women's sport) to offer to do a cheek swab to prove that they are actually XX women, as was the custom till 1999. If they are indeed biologically female that would be the easiest thing to do and all the controversy could stop immediately.

The fact is these athletes know that they can't do this, having already failed a previous test.

The IOC won't enforce XX females being the only ones able to take part in the Women's competition otherwise presumably it would have to go back and remove the wins for Semenya et al - just as they haven't revisited all medals which were won through probable doping.

I am sure that I have read somewhere that there are a higher than expected number of CAIS elite athletes where height might give them a sporting advantage. This, together with the information that the IOC apparently are not even testing testosterone levels, plus making up mumbojumbo on the hoof about testosterone and male puberty, suggests to me that the plan going forward is just to open up Women's Sport to all men who would like to take part in it, with athletes with male DSDs or an F on their passport (a la Hubbard?) being used as the crowbar

It's enraging and so incredibly unfair to women...

MaryMargotMaynard · 02/08/2024 18:41

Why exactly should anyone give more credence to a second statement by an organisation that is so corrupt and poorly run it is no longer recognised by the IOC over the IOC itself?

A second statement by them has no more weight than the first.

lcakethereforeIam · 02/08/2024 18:43

So why didn't the two boxers appeal?

Snowypeaks · 02/08/2024 18:44

Khelif did appeal, then accepted the results. Lin did not appeal.

Chersfrozenface · 02/08/2024 18:44

The easy and definitive way to conclude all this is for the IOC to undertake mouth swab tests of these two boxers.

And indeed all Olympians in female competitions.

Here is a tweet with translation by Liberty Times, the largest newspaper by circulation in Taiwan. Even Taiwan knows JK Rowling is wrong.

Why is the ‘nothing to see here’ brigade suddenly out in force?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 02/08/2024 18:46

Well firstly, they're a bit biased, and secondly "even Taiwan knows"? Sounds a bit problematic.

I mean, they would say that wouldn't they. Its in Taiwan's interest to allow this to continue. Why should we believe what they say?

I think that was 'creatively edited' by the BBC - Carini wants to apologise for refusing to shake her opponent's proffered hand, not for the whole thing.

There is a sort of noblesse oblige thing about shaking hands at the end of a bout, regardless..
It fits in with Carini calling herself 'a warrior', she obviously regrets not doing what she sees as the honourable thing.
We might thing she's crazy for wanting to shake Khelif's hand, but... she feels she should.

The BBC report is misinterpreting her gesture.

Well as he appeared to cup her breast immediately after the bout, the point is probably moot...

RainWithSunnySpells · 02/08/2024 18:48

Has JKR claimed that Lin Yuting is transgender? Evidence please.

I'm sure Lin's own country knows who she is better than JK Rowling?

RainWithSunnySpells · 02/08/2024 18:51

Come on Christin, stop delaying and post the evidence.

Really? How? How much do we "know" about UK Olympians, only what they want us to. Did all of America know Lance Armstrong was doping?

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 02/08/2024 18:53

I'm sure they do know. Doesn't mean they don't have reason to lie. Besides technically they aren't lying Lin isn't transgender, this is a person with a dsd who was assigned female in error due to it when they were born. Same as khelif

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 02/08/2024 18:53

I find it interesting that some people say that transgender people were "assigned" the wrong sex at birth, yet the same people do not believe that individuals with DSDs exist and may be "assigned" the wrong sex at birth....

Signalbox · 02/08/2024 19:03

According to Twitter Anna Luca Hamori is fighting Khelif tomorrow and this is what she has been posting on her instagram...

What source do you think the Taiwan paper has? Do you think they have seen the private medical info?

Kucinghitam · 02/08/2024 19:09

I think, on reflection, that the accidental concession by The Righteous is significant:

[Subject to the inevitable slithering of goalposts] there currently seems to be agreement that male humans do not belong in female sports, and that male humans punching female humans in the face would not be a good look.

It’s current news. I’m not going to read up pages of threads. What were they born as?

What do you mean? Obvs they were born as what they are now!

No human has ever changed sex but some have been erroneously recorded female with the error discovered at puberty.

ScienceofSport did a good thread about cheek swabs earlier. Basically he says they should be used as screening rather than a definitive test as occasionally they will throw up an unexpected result. All you do then is refer on for further testing to clarify the situation.

It’s a once in a lifetime test so could be carried out early in a career and the result lodged with the relevant governing body so there’s no need for it to be done on the world stage.
