Surely this cannot be true. In boxing of all sports. I thought boxing had told men they needed to compete with other men?

Infuriating hearing commentators talking about how it was difficult for Turdibekova against such an experienced opponent. Yeah, nothing to do with the fact that she was fighting a man.

"Her mid and long range work are very good". Yes, that's because his arms are a foot longer!

the woman looked like she was up against significant disadvantages in height, reach, and explosiveness, fought very bravely without really laying a glove on the man, face marked up a bit though not badly hurt, no suggestion of a handshake after the 'fight', hurried off in businesslike fashion

How often do Olympic level boxing matches finish so fast? I seem to remember matches being much longer, back when I briefly watched Barry McGuigan.

This is amateur boxing, not professional. Different rules. For women, it's 4 rounds of 2 minutes and scored on points.

I know they didn't have women's events back then but there would have been no confusion in the original Olympics as they were all naked

I have a question. I understand that in Zambia or Algeria, in a rural area, DSD/VSD might be missed until puberty. And they are useful for the Olympic committees of majority world countries. But Taiwan has pretty advanced healthcare, doesn't it? I mean wouldn't this have been observed earlier?

I lived there for a few years in the 90s and even then Taiwan had amazing healthcare. It would absolutely have been spotted.

A woman is forced to fight a man, and then forced to apologise to him for not being kind enough to him.

Someone has definitely pressured Carini, and i don't think it's the italians. The IOC probably threatened her with a ban going forwards. But most boxers only do one Olympics.
