TWO “Female Boxers” Set To Compete At Paris 2024 Were Previously Disqualified From Women’s World Championship For Having “XY Chromosomes”

Surely this cannot be true. In boxing of all sports. I thought boxing had told men they needed to compete with other men?

”Two athletes competing at the Paris Olympics as “women” were previously disqualified from a women’s world championship for having “XY chromosomes.” Imane Khelif of Algeria and Lin Yu-Ting of Taiwan are scheduled to compete in Olympic women’s boxing next week despite past questions surrounding their biological sex.”

You know what else is going to happen here? Trump will almost definitely highlight what happened here. Only yesterday he was reported as saying he plans to outright ban men in women's sport.

And I'm going to be very honest. If I was American, I genuinely think that this could be the moment where I would decide to hold my nose in November and go vote for him. I do not want another single woman to ever go through what Carini has suffered today. So I don't doubt that there is a significant number of actual Americans who will be feeling the same.

Exactly. I cannot understand how the Democrats can't see that. But I suspect they are on a purity spiral and don't want the votes of "bigots" anyway.

Yes, it's like all those times I go to shake a man's hand and rub his nips instead. Happens all the time.

See I just accidentally end up cupping his balls!

I feel for American women voters. To even contemplate voting for Trump... the options are awful. It's a whole other level from holding your nose and voting Tory here.

I just tried to watch this. The IOC have spiked it as copyrighted content, fucking bastards. There’s no guarantee they won’t quietly memory hole the whole bout if the furore gets embarrassing enough for them. They’re coming across as shady AF.

Fucking A. How sinister can the get!

Datun · 01/08/2024 22:04

Also they sooo picked the wrong woman to censor

Khelif is a victim too, you see 😕

KeirSpoutsTwaddle · 01/08/2024 22:05

Yes. The America situation is just the shitty icing on a shitty cake. It really does suck.

See I wondered whether the breast pat was yet another moment of male obliviousness. If she had been male as well, that might have been a natural gesture. It’s because she’s female it’s assault. And he isn’t so it slips his mind. Maybe.

Yes, the host wasn't having any of it. In the end she got him to repeat his stance and just kind of left it hanging.

I don't listen to LBC, so I don't know who she was. But I was delighted that she got it and wasn't afraid to speak about it.

@datun it was Shelagh Fogarty, she is brilliant! She’s on every weekday 1 till 4, well worth a listen.

I have zero sympathy for Khelif. He may be playing by the rules, but he knows he's a man and he knows it's wrong.

DuesToTheDirt · 01/08/2024 22:09

Oh, and I see that article mentions Semanya too, "you had Semenya herself, a teenager whose gender was suddenly global headline news. Truly heartbreaking. Everyone loses here." Teenager or not, Semanya must have known exactly what he was doing, and what advantage he had.

I have massive sympathy for anyone who spent their childhood thinking they were a girl and when puberty hits they realise they are male. That must be fucking horrific. A lot of kids find normal puberty very hard, to have puberty change the sex you thought you were would be a living nightmare for quite a while.

And that would be bad enough if the kid's passion in life was art or computers. But if it was sports. If they really, truly thought they were a truly talented athlete, then they would lose that too. That's heartbreak on top of horror.

However, as utterly shit as that is for them, my sympathy stops when they decide to ignore reality at the expense of women.

duc748 · 01/08/2024 22:17

And when they paw at a woman's breasts.

murasaki · 01/08/2024 22:20

So a violent male sex pest gets rewarded. Again. Sigh.

I was wondering what Nicola Adams might have to say, I worry it will be all #bekind.

I think she previously called for separate categories for transgender athletes so 🤞 hopefully she will have something sensible to say.

Agreed. I think many will vote for independents or just not vote and Trump will get back in by default.

biddyboo · 01/08/2024 22:31

Has anyone just seen this reported on the BBC news? I was surprised at the tone, which seemed to suggest that Khelif shouldn't have been eligible and that the IOC has questions to answer. A departure from how the BBC usually reports on this.

biddyboo · 01/08/2024 22:31

I'm pretty sure they also avoided referring to Khelif as she.

That's right. Very carefully worded.

SabrinaThwaite · 01/08/2024 22:43

Was it Dan Roan reporting? He seemed fairly honest in his report earlier.

CriticalCondition · 01/08/2024 22:52

I just saw the BBC news too. Much more critical and questioning in tone than earlier reports during the day. Although I noted the reporter still talked about an issue of inclusivity and put it before the issue of safety. Twice.

MTCoffeePot · 01/08/2024 22:54

I thought the BBC report was unusual in its tone and seemed to avoid explicitly stating the problem. The reporter was skirting around the issue e.g. by stating that Khelif had failed the 'eligibility test' but not saying what for. However, the report did give the strong sense that the IOC had questions to answer and the row was not going to go away.
