TWO “Female Boxers” Set To Compete At Paris 2024 Were Previously Disqualified From Women’s World Championship For Having “XY Chromosomes”

Surely this cannot be true. In boxing of all sports. I thought boxing had told men they needed to compete with other men?

”Two athletes competing at the Paris Olympics as “women” were previously disqualified from a women’s world championship for having “XY chromosomes.” Imane Khelif of Algeria and Lin Yu-Ting of Taiwan are scheduled to compete in Olympic women’s boxing next week despite past questions surrounding their biological sex.”

I'm curious if we'll see a tactical silver (or bronze) place finish so as not to make it too obvious. This has happened in competition in the past to give plausible deniability to the cheating.

Laurel Hubbard springs to mind.

From twitter

Reem Alsalem has been speaking out about this issue for years.

Signalbox · 01/08/2024 17:23

Is it possible this was a protest?

Being discussed on R4 PM now. Evan Davies recoiling from actually saying anything and has just rushed over it, saying 'I should stress this isn't an athlete who's trans but would traditionally be called intersex'.

Intersex? God, he knows nothing about any of this does he?

lcakethereforeIam · 01/08/2024 17:32

He's a genetic male claiming to be female so definitely not trans because they're genetic males who...never mind.

Appalonia · 01/08/2024 17:33

I was really pleased that there was a long thread on AIBU. And despite some bad faith posters, the vast majority of women were shocked, appalled and angry that this travesty has been allowed to happen. Despite what the bloody BBC is non reporting, a LOT of women have seen the truth today. And it's only going to ramp up from here.

Am I correct in thinking if Khelif wins his next bout he'll be on the podium?

Next bout on Saturday is a quarter final. two more matches after that to get gold or silver.

I think there is NO chance of Khelif throwing a match. Remember he is very different to more common AGP types. He was brought up as a girl.

He is not fighting for "trans" types in fact I suspect he has little regard for them. He doesn't care if him winning makes them look bad. He is fighting for Algeria, his family and his own pride.

What would be the point, for the IBA, of faking or manipulating tests to exclude two not-particularly-special boxers? What would the IBA or Russia or Gazprom get out of it?

What evidence do you have that they carry out dodgy sex-testing? I get that you think they are bastards for what they did to Conlon, but this is quite different.

Edited to respond to additional post.

Edited

My knowledge of the history of the IBA/AIBA is based on a lot more than 'what they did to Michael Conlon'. His loss against the Russian boxer Vladimir Nikitin at the Rio Olympics was so obviously fixed that it blew the lid off the corruption going on at the IBA.

In 2022 an independent report into corruption at the [A]IBA concluded that

Bouts were manipulated for money, perceived benefit of AIBA, or to thank National Federations and their Olympic committees, and, on occasion, hosts of competitions for their financial support and political backing.

Michael Conlon was just one of the Olympians to suffer the consequences of this corruption.

Likewise, the Carini-Khelif fight may be the point at which the IOC's eligibility rules for women's sports are shown to be not just wrong but dangerous.

What do you mean, he was brought up as a girl? Where's the evidence for that? He sure looks like a man to me!

NecessaryScene · 01/08/2024 17:39

But - if in other sports it's as easy as "having an F on your passport" then do we not think that other countries will see this and take advantage for 2028?

In most cases it isn't - "having an F on your passport" is the IOC's preferred policy - as of about 3 years ago, having given up on testosterone levels, or even the belief that there is an inherent male advantage that justifies separate events.

But most sports events at the Olympics have their rules set by their own international bodies, and those bodies have been moving pretty much universally in a direction of removing trans and DSD loopholes permitting males into female sports.

This is an exceptional instance of the IOC getting to actually run a particular sporting event their way. And an example of why they should never be permitted to.

The IOC doesn't really seem to be a sports organisation - they just identify as one.

Signalbox · 01/08/2024 17:23

Is it possible this was a protest?

That seems exceptionally unlikely. Both boxers have been fighting as women for many years - it would be a hell of a long game.

TWETMIRF · 01/08/2024 17:46

Nero's Olympic wins were less corrupt than these 2 blokes. At least he was honest

MarieDeGournay · 01/08/2024 17:47

As a number of us have pointed out, a male baby born with a DSD might well be assumed to be a girl, especially if the family don't have access to appropriate testing. So they bring the baby up as a girl, And then male puberty hits, and it all gets very very confusing. And very lucrative if they can compete and win in professional women's sports.
It can't be an easy time for the teenager with DSD and no proper support. Puberty is tough enough without it being not the same one all your friends are undergoing..
Proper testing to establish the biological sex of competitors is what the IOC needs to do, instead of their unscientific be nice to trans people waffle.

I'm pleased that the usual posters who flock to these threads calling us all big transphobes appear to be staying away. It's almost as if they do actually know their arguments are nonsensical and this one cant be won. A few of my male friends have also shared the story on insta agreeing how outrageous this is and how anti-women the ideology is in general which pleased me. More people are peaking.

Use this brilliant website to access CEOs and in this instance EDITORS of the papers who promoted this shit and give them a piece of your mind.
They pushed this, they championed this, they promoted this at the expense of women. They did NOT do their jobs

This appalling situation also makes clear that now people may have official paperwork with preferred misinformation, that objective testing has to be carried out. And the paperwork disregarded as unreliable.

Testing disqualified both these boxers chromosomally from the women's competition.

The IOC has ignored the tests and gone with the paperwork.

However sympathetic and compassionate you may be to the difficult experiences of someone with DSD, granting special permission to male ones to go and injure women as a consolation prize is not a sane response.

Do you know that for a fact, Evan Davies? Or are you just spouting the first thing that came into your head? Do you know precisely what 'intersex' means, in general, and for this particular individual? The BBC should be dealing in verifiable facts, not wotireckon.

And what is your evidence that they faked or manipulated the chromosomal tests, given that both athletes accepted the result?

Fenlandia · 01/08/2024 18:08

The BBC have just shown a gold medal match in the women's judo. Two women who both ended up a bit bloodied and bruised in a (literally) gripping contest - it was fair, exciting and sporting. The contrast between that and the farce of the boxing this morning is so jarring.

‘Intersex’ would be interpreted by most people, who don’t know about DSDs, to mean actually at least half female. So what he said was wrong and misleading.

The BBC needs a letter of explanation.

I always thought the BBC had a duty to be impartial. Their reporting on these issues has completely destroyed my trust in them. HOW DARE THEY lie and gaslight people like this? So so angry about this. TELL THE BLOODY TRUTH BBC!

I wouldn’t be surprised if his own family and Algerians have shut down any possibility in their minds that he might not be a female. A bit like the ordinary Victorians when evolution was first mooted by Darwin and Genesis could not be absolutely literal anymore.

PUNCH AND JUDY

He hit me in the kitchen
when there was no one there to see.

He hit me in the bedroom
with the baby on my knee.

He hit me in the street
Did the people stop? Not one.

And now he hits me in the Olympics
And the crowd they cheer him on.

Catiette · 01/08/2024 18:35

BBC News just now. Introduced item as Khelif previously failing an "eligibility test" (the fundamental word "gender" - we'd say "sex" - omitted), & subsequently refined this to its being due to "elevated levels of testosterone according to the IOC". My understanding was that he was refused entry in the World Championships on the basis of chromosomal testing - he was XY, not XX. 1) Am I right in this? 2) If so, surely this is another instance of the BBC using "reliable sources" (ref. recent thread with Daily Mail journalist appearing to suggest that requesting further verification of such sources is unrealistic &/or unnecessary) to, effectively, lie to the public?
