TWO “Female Boxers” Set To Compete At Paris 2024 Were Previously Disqualified From Women’s World Championship For Having “XY Chromosomes”

Surely this cannot be true. In boxing of all sports. I thought boxing had told men they needed to compete with other men?

”Two athletes competing at the Paris Olympics as “women” were previously disqualified from a women’s world championship for having “XY chromosomes.” Imane Khelif of Algeria and Lin Yu-Ting of Taiwan are scheduled to compete in Olympic women’s boxing next week despite past questions surrounding their biological sex.”

But why all mystery, in that case?

If it literally is an F on their passport, and nothing more, then I'd like them to be accountable for that.

Because any amateur boxer could get an F on their passport. Is that what the Olympics is now according to the IOC?

Yes! That’s the problem. The IOC is effectively declaring that if they’re in charge of the sport, paperwork is all that matters. No need to clarify if you’re trans, DSD, having a laugh, whatever. This is the stance they’re taking. It’s so bonkers it’s hard to accept as the truth, but it is.

Boiledbeetle · 01/08/2024 12:20

I just watched it on the KJK clip. That poor woman having to go up against that man.

This has to fucking stop.

These 'woman' are men!

The next match this afternoon will decide who faces Khelif on Saturday in quarter final. Either:

Hungary - HAMORI Anna Luca

Australia - WILLIAMSON Marissa

https://olympics.com/en/paris-2024/results/boxing/women-s-66kg/8fnl000400--

As the Captain of the Australian women's boxing team have already complained this could get even more controversial. The Hungarians are also unlike to sit quietly.

Sincerely hope both teams pull their boxers from that match. Broken nose in 42 seconds.

I can't believe the IOC has basically gagged media world-wide, so that the TV audiences are largely unaware of what's going on. And the BBC (and everyone else) just accepts it. WTAF?

Global totalitarianism in some areas, happening in plain sight.

Carini's coach in the mixed zone: “I don’t know if her nose is broken. I have to speak with the girl. But many people in Italy tried to call and tell her: “Don’t go please: it’s a man, it’s dangerous for you.”

One of the rules of boxing is that both boxers 'must protect themselves at all times', so dropping your hands and getting sucker-punched is your own fault.
But the referee is supposed to intervene if it becomes obvious that one of the boxers is physically unable to protect themselves from damaging blows.
It looks like this fight was over so fast that the referee didn't even have time to form an opinion about Carini's physical state, so the only way she could protect herself from more injury was to 'retire'.

I don't know anything about the Australian boxer who may next face Khelif, but Hamori got a split decision against Gráinne Walsh, and showed herself to be a bit of a brawler, with lots of pushing and holding, so she might be able to 'smother' Khelif. Every boxer facing Khelif in the future will be on the alert from the moment the bell sounds for Round 1.

DialSquare · 01/08/2024 12:30

I have enough anger about this to want to get in the boxing ring with him myself so I can wipe the floor with him. But we all know that wouldn't happen. What with him being much stronger etc. My heart breaks for Angela Carini and any future opponent of his.

For bleep sake... every official in the IOC, at those games and in that area is complicit in the oppression and abuse of women. I do not know how they can look themselves in the mirror or speak to their mothers, wives, daughters, friends, colleagues.

Are all of the commentators simply refusing to talk about it or even to think about it? Cowards.

Typically weasly update on the BBC coverage, "ooh there's been some controversy at the boxing" and re the Algerian: "she failed a gender eligibility test last year".

I know they're bound by the IOC diktats but they should be finding ways to help viewers work out what the issue is. Both boxers are called 'she', what's the problem, right?

She didn't drop her hands or get sucker punched. Carini throws a right jab then a long right hook. Her opponent threw a long right cross, interrupting the hook. Both fighters had gloves up and were defending, although you can see Carini dropped her left glove a little as she threw the right hook.

MarieDeGournay · 01/08/2024 12:40

This has been posted before, but Khelif has been beaten - unanimous decision - by a woman, Kellie Harrington (Ireland) to be exact, in the 2020 Olympics when they were both in the 64kg category.
Of her opponent Harrington said: "Very, very awkward and throwing from real far, but making mad grunting noises. She had really long arms and it was hard to get in and do what I would like to do.
"It wasn't an amazing fight but it was a fight that I won - I did enough to win it. She was smiling at me and sticking out her tongue. I was smiling back as if to say, 'it's all fun and games until my hand gets lifted!'
Tokyo 2020: Harrington guarantees medal with Khelif win (rte.ie)

Commentators are noting that Harrington seems even stronger than she was in 2020, so the same could be true of Khelif - four years more training and strength building with the advantages of a male body may have made him more dangerous this year.

MounjaroUser · 01/08/2024 12:40

I hope this is the turning point now.

they showed the clip of her losing and starting crying but then instantly went to equestrian coverage... disappointing but not surprising that they made so little comment on the fact that men beating up women is now an olympic sport.

Snowypeaks · 01/08/2024 12:44

We do know they are men, although as NotBad says, we know nothing else for sure.

The tests were done twice, in 2023 and 2022 and the athletes were found to have XY chromosomes. They were tests for eligibility for the female category. The IBA had no reason for faking or manipulating the tests. In any case, both athletes accepted the correctness of the results, although Khelif challenged the finding initially.

And Carini wasn't outclassed, she was having to fight a man in the female category.

Twistybranch · 01/08/2024 12:45

Top 4 headlines in the DM is just this story. It’s hopefully going to be big news

MarieDeGournay · 01/08/2024 12:45

She didn't drop her hands or get sucker punched
I didn't mean that Carini did this, BezMills I was putting her in the other category - boxers who are unable because of injury to protect themselves, but the referee didn't even having time to assess that and stop the fight.
I know Carini is a warrior, no disrespect.

murasaki · 01/08/2024 12:47

It will be a procession of broken noses at best, broken skulls at worst, until this cheating man gets a medal.

At least Carini has her country backing her up, and a growing peaking audience, but she should never have been put in this position.

PronounssheRa · 01/08/2024 12:51

What kind of person, knowing they are male steps inside a boxing ring to land punches on a women.

The IOC are despicable and complicit. Any women injured should sue.

I'm grateful to the journalists trying to bring attention to this despite the IOCs attempts to gag them. The others can just fuck off.

Iamiams · 01/08/2024 12:52

How did the IOC think this was going to go?

Edited

Riley Gaines had that upside down of it experience when she was told by an official that although she and Lia Thomas had deadheated, 'You don't understand, Riley. Lia has to take the trophy." She thought all the same things about, "Don't you have daughters?" etc.
