FFS disability is now on the pride flag

I'm livid. I'm disabled and I do not want to be represented on the LGBTQ+ flag.

Also this quote: Dayna Halliwell (she/her), Content and Engagement Manager at Evenbreak, led the collaboration and organised the Pride visit. She said: “It was very moving and amazing to see the reaction of disabled people in the audience. You could see the joy on their faces of being represented in the parade.”

by always supporting your own community first, in for example job offers, promotions etc, could this be considered a form of discrimination

This absolutely is discriminatory, and illegal

pandasorous · 16/07/2024 11:11

surely this is just to represent disabled individuals who are also LGBTQ+?

We were already represented under the rainbow flag. Changing that flag does nothing to help us.

Eta: if anything it is more likely to take away things from us, with companies spending EDI budgets on rainbow-washing branding rather than on things like grab rails and ramps.

justasking111 · 16/07/2024 11:28

Follow the money.

haveatye · 16/07/2024 11:28

So the original pride movement was about presenting a persecuted community as resilient and unbowed, to an audience that was doing the persecution, by and large.

Once it's no longer about a minority celebrating against the odds, but encompasses a majority - I don't get how it works.

haveatye · 16/07/2024 11:26

Who isn't included within the pride flag? And if it includes literally everyone, what's the point? If it excludes some groups, equally what's the point?

Can you be a straight male privately educated banker living in st Alban's and still be part of the pride shtick?

Of course. Tell everyone you're queer. Easy peasy

MysteriousUsername · 16/07/2024 11:29

If they were going to use it to actually spread disability awareness and inclusion it would be fine. But they won't. It will self-identified "neurospicy" people who aren't actually diagnosed but think that being autistic is just being "quirky and non binary" and will then shout disability discrimination at any given opportunity, as well as transphobia.

I'm autistic, although straight (but hey, I technically come under the demisexual and non binary flags if you look at the descriptions 🙄) and I don't want adding to their stupid flag. Any of the stupid bloody flags.

WallaceinAnderland · 16/07/2024 11:10

Is this a way to justify sticking rainbows on disabled facilities so that 'queer folk' can take over them just like they tried to with women's spaces?

Yep.

MaidOfAle · 16/07/2024 11:29

Moier · 16/07/2024 11:18

Are you homophobic?
My daughter and myself are disabled.
My daughter is gay.
My psychiatrist is disabled and gay.
What's the problem?

I'm autistic, bisexual, and gender critical and I do not want my autism put on a flag wielded by people who want to kill me for my gender critical beliefs. It's bad enough that the gender identity insanity was added to the LGB flag.

WallaceinAnderland · 16/07/2024 11:30

It can't cover Paedophile?

Stonewall's mantra is Acceptance without Exception #nodebate

Reminds me of the intro from dad's army, can we have a suffragette coloured arrow pushing in the other direction?

Ah yes, how did the theme go again?

"Who do you think you are kidding?"

Isn't that the truth?

Just as they've tried, and to no small end succeeded, in their colonisation of female bodies.

The offensive, unnecessary prefix of 'cis', 'people with a cervix', 'gestational parents'; not even, on some occasions, stopping short of 'menstruator/bleeder'.

Might as well come out with what they really think of us and call us cunts.

I'm a disabled vegetarian... just putting that out there.

you can have all the green bits..

CrunchyCarrot · 16/07/2024 11:35

CocoapuffPuff · 16/07/2024 10:04

Would you prefer brocolli or red peppers on your flag? On a background of mixed lentils - were not lentilphobic here sniffs in disapproval at those who are

How very dare you suggest anything other than Rainbow Carrots? If they aren't diverse, what is?

Signed, Grumpy Carrot.

Because disability and LGBTQ are completely different things. It would be like having a flag for disabled people and vegetarians.

Also I don't feel like celebrating my disability most of the time.

Are vegetarians not represented on the flag? WFT.... outraged.

The arrows are taking over. Beginning to look like the opening credits of Dad's Army.

edit: sorry, I see another poster has had the same vibe. Should have RTFT.

That's what the green stripe is for!

DeanElderberry · 16/07/2024 11:42

You're all shocking begrudgers, I demand a spectacles-wearers stripe. Maybe honouring our long established historic oppression by being a chequerboard of ghastly NHS 1960s fake-tortoiseshell and even ghastlier NHS 1960s plastic pink. It would also need to be the biggest stripe, so that we could see it.

CrunchyCarrot · 16/07/2024 11:42

eatfigs · 16/07/2024 11:41

But why do all vegetables have to be described as 'green'?? I identify as orange!! Pfffft.

JusteanBiscuits · 16/07/2024 11:43

Jimblebells · 16/07/2024 11:09

This is stupid. Not all but many in the lgbtq... whatever... choose this way of life, no one ever ever chooses to be disabled so should not be on the freaking flag.

Wow. So many in the LGBTQ group choose to be LGBTQ?

DeanElderberry · 16/07/2024 11:43

Apologies if someone else already suggested this, I have honoured tradition by nrtft.

sashh · 16/07/2024 11:43

SeeSeeRider · 16/07/2024 10:07

I agree. I think diversity is the most important thing. I fully support the inclusion of disability in Pride.

Even though you are being told by people with disabilities that we do not want this?

You do know there is a fetish about having sex with disabled people don't you?

Gettingbysomehow · 16/07/2024 11:47

Bloody hell. I'm disabled and not LGBT and I'm not going to celebrate.
I'm a 1980s adult and I remember the LGBT struggle when it was real hundreds of people dying with aids, discrimination, violence, not being able to get a job, chucked out of the army for being gay.
This is what pride is for not men in dresses or disabled people (unless they are gay).
It's become a farce Ooh I feel a bit depressed I need my own flag!!
This bollox does directly affect the people thst pride was originally for.
I'm sick of the fetish and BDSM element that prances about in rubber and leather at every pride too, no doubt they will soon want their own flag too.
