Simple request for 'gender critical' activists

NoShortKing · 15/07/2024 12:51

I'm registered after an awful incident a few days ago, but I'm glad that it forced me to wait before posting as it's enabled me to be more circumspect about things. I'm trans (booo!) and started transitioning 17 years ago. I'm just a guy in the world, few know I'm trans, nobody cares, as it should be.

The other day I had a health appointment, unrelated to being trans or anything that could be relevant, yet the worker obviously had looked into my medical history, misgendered me (I'm a bald bloke with a beard ffs), asked me clearly inappropriate questions which was obviously from 'gender critical' rhetoric. I ended up leaving and now I have all the palaver of having to go through the practice manager to make a complaint.

Here's a really simple solution, if you're a 'gender critical' activist then realise that it's clearly inappropriate for you to work with trans people and ask for someone else to see them. If I had a problem with the existence of, I don't know, black people, tall people, I don't know, people with tattoos or something, then I would just ask someone else to see them. If in my job I was asked to see someone who was openly 'gender critical' I would just tell my lead that I would not be the best person to see them and she would have no problem with that.

I've talked with loads of people about this and nobody thinks this is unreasonable..and certainly in terms of the NHS something that is completely doable with a group that makes up 0.5% of the population.

Obviously, given that I'm in the hornet's nest, I won't be responding, just will leave that request to think about this if you're in a public facing job.

Human beings cannot change sex. Whatever plastic surgery you have, you will still be either biologically male or biologically female - and that has direct implications for your healthcare treatment, @NoShortKing. If you are not prepared to disclose your biological sex to a healthcare professional, are you happy to bear the consequences of getting the wrong treatment?

spannasaurus · 18/07/2024 17:28

When I was a child we had an electric griddle that was only ever used to make Welsh cakes.

OK, checked my email and so much mumsnet spam, serves me right I guess.

Had a conversation with the manager who was kind and respectful. Asked not to be seen by this person again (which is a given) and suggested that she may not be the best person to be seeing any trans patients. Honestly, as long as its recorded and flagged, I don't really mind, I just don't want her to target any trans people again (I don't even know if there are any others that attend that surgery).

Fwiw, you get Mumsnet spam regardless of the topic or what you post - it's just how MN is xD

If you'd be open to telling us a little more about what went on with your experience though, I'm sure a lot of us would be more than willing to be on your side about it provided your birth sex genuinely wasn't relevant and what was said wasn't appropriate!

Best wishes ~

It always surprises me that this is still sold. Even if you are on a budget income - it isn’t even particularly cheap. I guess not needing refrigeration is probably important though.

OP go to settings and click on 'notifications'. You can slide the toggle from Yes Please to No Ta on each option. The notifications that you signed up for you can delete en-bloc from your email account. You shouldn't get any further once you have toggled to No Ta. Remember to save changes.

They are here, they are a summer staple. Around €30 if I remember correctly.

Either you've got a massive bargain, Alison, or I was looking at something rather different!

OP: I'm not coming back to this thread of meanies, ever. Comes back.
Rest of the world: Makes shortbread, Welsh cakes etc.

Conclusion: Can't keep a good woman down.

I'm glad your complaint was dealt with in a sensitive and satisfactory way.

btw You should be able to change your settings so as not to get emailed very time someone replies to one of your posts. I don't mind but it can pile up.

duc748 · 18/07/2024 18:13

Well surely you can do from either end. You could direct your mail to send mails from MN (or anyone else) direct to your junk folder.

So happy for you @Kucinghitam

I'm making some blueberry muffins later.

Yum! Anything blueberry is great. I'm making a couple of blueberry pies for my daughter's birthday. She doesn't like cakes.

BezMills · 18/07/2024 20:15

Yeah @NoShortKing I had to toggle a bunch of things off in settings, to get my mumsnet spam under control, is normal.

I'm glad you complained. everyone deserves good healthcare. it's typically not a great time anyway, if you're at the doc or seeing another type of HCP.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 18/07/2024 20:20

@BezMills - if the OP wants good healthcare, they should not hiding important information - like their biological sex - from a healthcare professional.

In France where I live, the moment the sun comes out the supermarkets are flooded with them.

Those are far too fancy, this is just like a large hot plate. It heats up in less than a minute and is usually used for steaks and such. But us being veggie I usually get it out in the summer for aubergine, courgettes and pepper grills that get loaded into flatbreads. I also do large square pancakes on them and dosas when I have the patience. And nan breads.

I've also used it to attach an iron on patch onto my jeans as I don't own an iron. And if I was going to make a large batch of toasted spices for the freezer I'd probably use it for that too. They are a really useful little tool.

I think I have seen those in Lidl or Aldi middle aisle once or twice. Must keep an eye out.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 18/07/2024 21:19

I have both a heavy pan and a crepe pan, so will give it a go!

OneSugar1 · 18/07/2024 22:15

ifIwerenotanandroid · 17/07/2024 17:40

@OneSugar1 It was from Green & Black's Choclate Recipes cookbook (p178, the Konditor & Cook Chocolate Biscuit Cake). I've found it online:

Thank you!

I think either will do! I use my crepe pan cos I don't use it for much else!

All I can say is that if DH hasn't reacted to this thread by producing something scrumptious for when I get home on Friday, There. Will. Be. Words.

My thanks to @terryleather . DH followed your recipe. The result was heavenly. The result had a lovely firm bite that dissolved into a sweet, buttery nothingness on the tongue with just a slight hint of salt.

There wasn't any need for words.

Thanks again.

terryleather · 19/07/2024 22:31

It's Friday and I've had a wee drink so your post has made me a bit emotional @JanesLittleGirl - so glad you enjoyed the recipe and your DH must have the magical shortbread touch...good news for you!

Ereshkigalangcleg · 19/07/2024 22:34

Fantastic! I'm also planning to try your recipe when I next fancy shortbread @terryleather - had already screenshot in case the thread was deleted Grin

terryleather · 19/07/2024 23:02

I'm quite surprised the thread is still here tbh Eresh, I was sure it would go for "not being in the spirit"...anyway if you do attempt the recipe I hope you also have the shortbread touch 😁

OneSugar1 · 19/07/2024 23:55

If this thread is deleted I for one will be taking it to The Hague for Crimes Against Shortbread and Other Traybake Related Items.

So do I 🤞
