Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Genuinely want to know why trans rights trump womens?

Devilsmommy · 09/07/2024 14:19

I've been reading alot on here about all the different aspects of the trans debate. So firstly my view is that merely stating you're a different sex does not make it so. I don't have any issue with people wanting to change gender but I am very worried about the possibility of being made to share single sex spaces with men who say they're women. So my question is for the trans women who are genuinely changing their whole identity to become a woman, via surgery and hormones. If those trans women say they don't feel safe using the male spaces, do they really believe it's right that a whole section of the population, ie women, should be made to feel just as unsafe because of their life choice. Why do trans women's rights trump womens rights? I'm genuinely flabbergasted that it's even got this far and we women are having to fight for a very basic right not to feel uncomfortable in vulnerable situations like changing rooms, toilets etc.

Watching this post predictably develop, I am surprised none of you have argued for capital punishment or mass deportation, yet. It would be in keeping.

The only person talking about those topics here is you. Funny that.

It frustrates the life out of me! If I could interview Keir Starmer I'd ask him his stance on biological men entering female only spaces and let him explain to me how biological men are sometimes women.

Just to explain my thinking on that while my brain is still working.

Let Starmer do his some people identify as XY and Z but keep bringing it back to biological men. The point is biological men entering women's spaces and it really is a simple as that.

Hope that makes sense.

I don't see why they can't just use the disabled access toilets. That way they're not having to feel unsafe in the men's and they're not making women feel unsafe and uncomfortable in the ladies 🤷

Why is there such unquestioning acceptance that

  • TW are in danger if using male facilities (solutions include TW using male allies to safeguard them in such facilities rather than using female allies as a safeguarding shield in women's facilities)
  • this is a problem for women to solve rather than tackling the systemic issue of male violence?

We'll be watching as you predictably will not be able to explain or justify your trollish, deliberately inflammatory false comparison.

For anyone who hasn't seen the other thread, it's here:
https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/5115405-to-ask-if-anyone-else-on-mn-is-not-anti-trans?page=1

It is now on thread 2 because the first one filled up this morning in a matter of hours.

Sorry to hijack your thread OP, but I think it's important to point out this other thead because it hasn't been quickly shoved off over here like they usually are!

There's a thread 2? Jesus the OP must be a glutton for punishment.

bringbacktheladiesloos · 10/07/2024 01:54

Yes it is highly ironic that transwomen want to use womens loos because they fear men in the men's loos, but they can't understand that women fear men in the women's loos.

It just won't compute for them. They refuse to compute it. They refuse to even try.

Our lived experience and feelings of safety are of zero concern to them.

Catsmere · 10/07/2024 04:09

As all the PP have said, because TW are men, and everyone knows it, and it suits men as a class extremely well to undermine the rights women have fought for. The huge pushback against women's rights, the rise of more and more extreme pornography - these things are all connected. Nor is it a coincidence that this movement took off after things like gay marriage were legalised - the organisations that used to fight for that (like Stonewall) basically sold homosexual people out in pursuit of more funding. The movement is MRAs in wigs and lipstick, presenting a face of misogyny highly acceptable to so-called progressive men (and brainwashed Be Kind women).

Thankfully you are here to monitor and admonish, eh? Astonishing what women get up to without supervision.

EvelynBeatrice · 10/07/2024 09:05

There's one clear exception to the law that makes it specifically clear that one category of transperson can't be treated for legal purposes as the opposite sex.
Women who trans to men are prohibited from inheriting titles/ estates etc that would ordinarily go down the male line only. It's a real head scratcher why that is singled out. Hmm

I wonder where Britain is supposed to deport these men to, given the lack of prison colonies these days? 🤔

This question kept me up for months and months. As a western woman with comparatively (to other countries) good rights, opportunities, self worth it was impossible to see the simple truth. Men's rights are more important than women's. Otherwise our considerations would be more than enough.

Why any woman betrays her fellow female by claiming allyship? I still don't know the answer.

Treaclewell · 10/07/2024 14:24

I have been chewing the cud over this issue for some time, and I think there is a substrate to the situation which neither we nor men can easily see, but means that there is an advantage to the arguments of the 1%.
We all know about the patriarchy, the establishment of the rule of men, that reason for the transmen being barred from inheritance of positions important for people who value such things, that reason for women being barred from certain jobs. It can, and has been challenged, for instance with the ordination of women in the Anglicans, though allowances have had to be made for men who can't accept it.
We all know about misogyny, and its ruderies, and pay gaps. It can be met with education, but can still be omitted from hate crimes.
In this thread, the substrate has been hinted at, one poster has even said that woen are not properly human, but we need a way to address it.
I grew up with sisters and never a thought given to not being human, so it's come as a bit of a shock. But it has been there a long time. Why on earth, pondered St Augustine, when he'd dumped the mother of his son at the behest of his mother, did God feel it necessary to create women, when all that was needed to be human was contained in men. And he answered himself that it was to provide more men. Living in a slave society, the support subhuman argument didn't occur.
For far too many of us, men and women, men have been seen as the default human, and women an addendum, to be useful. To the AngloSaxons, mann was not a sex class, it meant both of us, wirman and wifman, so the default was both. We aren't going to get that word back any time soon, but we need to get the idea back, that human rights include all of us, representation of both tax paying classes, and not the trampling of women's rights and needs under the advancing tiny army of large sized stiletto heeled jillboots.
But there needs to be a simple word for that state of functioning as if the natural state of human is male, when it isn't. And it certainly exists, since the opposition to it is so violent.

UpThePankhurst · 10/07/2024 16:05

Because women's rights and equality to men absolutely equates to wanting capital punishment.....
