There's an affluent little costal town in the West of Scotland with that name, yes I'm aware.

But words can have different meanings can't they?

NO. Colour me shocked.

Troon is pretty run down these days actually.

That’s not in the dictionary definition though.

There are multiple threads on here discussing cisgender and the prefix cis. Both are listed in dictionaries with definitions, no dictionary describes them as a slur. Look them up.

Tr**n in the context Louise McDonald uses is is not listed in any official dictionary. Its definition can be found in slang/urban dictionaries which describe them as offensive slurs. It is only used in an offensive manner and it not used by LGBT people. Forums such as reddit and Facebook which do not tolerate homophobia or transphobia will issue bans for its use.

I've seen JK Rowling use "TERF" as well as advertise merchandise with "TERF" on it so I would presume that means it's not offensive?

And on mumsnet, you’re asked not to use cis/cisgender as it’s considered a slur by many, many people on here.

But they’re not the people who are currently the history-writing victors, as someone once said 🤣

It’s no use trying to make us be nice, you know. That ship did a Vasa 🤣🤣🤣

O2AreAShowerofShite · 27/06/2024 23:47

Well God forbid that a woman speaks in a 'tone' that isn't pre-approved by a male. How dare she.

Struggling to see how that leaflet would fall into the definition of a 'malicious communication'. It contains factual information with very little that could be deemed commentary, other than perhaps the use of 'nonsensical' which I guess implies a value judgement (though is also truthful).

Chickenuggetsticks · 27/06/2024 23:47

Seriously if KJK said something homophobic I’d really like to know what that is. If someone can tell me what it is she actually said, that would be helpful.

Ofocurse cis is offensive to women who have a scientific, materialist definition of sex rather than a bunch of stereotypes as a guide as to whether they are a woman or not. I don’t need to identify as a woman I AM a woman. Cis assumes I sign up to gender ideology which is inherently misogynistic. I get why a man can’t understand that though.

I don't understand where the homophobia accusation is coming from. I hadn't heard the word troon before and the definition I've just found said it's a term used about 'trans' people.

Homophobia is prejudice against LGB people ie anyone who is same sex attracted. If a biological male (whether or not he believes he is female) is attracted to another biological man (whether or not he believes he is female) and encounters prejudice because of the same sex attraction, then that is homophobia. Is that is what is being talked about here? I'm a bit baffled.

Proponents of gender ideology believe a biological man who is attracted to women can be a lesbian.

And therefore lesbians should include him in their dating pool.

Hence lesbian only spaces are shutting down and going underground to avoid 'lesbians with penises'. And groups like 'get the L out' being formed.

See also 'the cotton ceiling'. (Training on how men can 'break through' lesbians' knickers.)

And the ex head of stonewall claiming lesbians who don't accept men as lesbians are akin to 'sexual racists.'

Ah well let’s get Troon added to the dictionary along with cis, terf and queer. All equally offensive terms eh?

how do you know LGB people don’t use the word Troon? Or the TQ+whatever?

I don't see where the homophobia accusations in this thread apply. What has happened that is homophobic?

Put Dunoon and Portree on there while you’re at it. No debate I say.

An earlier post suggested criticising a Green candidate was homophobic because she was gay.

If tr**n was to be added to official dictionaries it would be listed as a derogatory slur. Which btw, cis and cisgender are not.

For anyone wondering, there is a definition given by Hatepedia here:

https://hatepedia.ca/guide/explicit/troon

Hatepedia describes itself as "Hatepedia is an online database and resource centre built with original research to provide educators, parents, lawmakers, and researchers with tools to identify and counter the proliferation of online hate made possible by the Government of Canada"

Sloejelly · 28/06/2024 00:19

I love the idea that we can complain to the electoral commission because we are offended by candidates. I am going to be busy reporting my green, Lib Dem’s, Labour, SNP candidates for their grossly offensive statements that men can become women.

I don't know, sorry. Just this from yesterday

Nat6999 Yesterday 22:52
I've just spoken to ds & apparently Louise McDonld was vile at the hustings, everyone including the audience told her to shut up. She was homophobic every time she opened her mouth, she verbally insulted the Green candidate who is gay.

But there are a couple of posters who don't like Kelly Jay Keen or her 'let women speak' events. So you see all sorts of accusations.

Sloejelly · 28/06/2024 00:23

On the other hand, coming back to the point of this post - this police officer appears to have committed at least one, if not two criminal offences. Not just insults.

Isn't it the same police force who threatened her with arrest for using the word castration?

Yes, I consider both cos and cisgender offensive.

I’ve some nice friends in Pore though, don’t really know Dun that well.

Oh well that didn’t work.

Bit like all this shit. Not much longer to go now I think.

IwantToRetire · 28/06/2024 01:06

I think somehow, though not unusual, a thread about one issue has then been hijacked to talk about something else.

Apparently the approved leaflet re PoW was complained about. And as said up thread it would have been accepted by the electoral commission, it will make the police look ridiculous to try and make out there was a crime committed.

Separately, there are now second hand reports about what might have been said at a meeting / hustings.

Anyone who wants to complain could do so to the PoW and say what was said in unacceptable.

Just like, after C4 news this evening, having secretly recorded a Reform candidate making the most extreme racist comments, it has been raised with Reform.

This is about an election campaign. This isn't silly internet ya boo sucks.

If you think someone standing as a candidate has crossed the line, make a complaint.

But on the other hand if you dont know something for a fact dont go spreading it around online forums.

What is the difference between cis and cisgender?

Cis- Very old Latin prefix meaning "on the same side of", has many uses including cisgender (which has been used for around 30 years). Hope the image can explain them well.

Love this reply

Leftie.

@leftie0

Bloke here. I can explain all. Having read the flyers I can quite understand the cops response. Allow me to mansplain: 1) No one likes women getting ideas above their station. And a POW is an insult against the natural order. 2) The pamphlet was strident and haradian like. 3) Far too direct and honest with a worrying absence of guile. 4) A political document must make black grey with clever clever words. 5) cowardice and moral absence must be couched in polite words of sympathetic sophistry. Please do better. Signed Mephistopheles inc.

The parallel with this story from yesterday is uncanny, Nigel Farage kicked the party campaigner out for using slurs.

Will Party Of Women leader Kellie-Jay Keen do the same?

Nigel Farage being asked about offensive comments made by his campaigners

Reform UK campaigners caught making racist slurs

Party leader Nigel Farage said where people made comments that are "genuinely offensive" he would deal with them.

I agree with you on the leaflet, but her twitter posts are another matter entirely. She needs to be careful, or she could end up in another Caroline Farrow saga. (And on a selfish note, the last thing we need is the Latin Cat named poster reappearing to tell us all that we don't know exactly what's gone on repeatedly)

Theunamedcat · 28/06/2024 06:24

Wtf is a Troon?

InvisibleBuffy · 28/06/2024 06:32

There's two issues here. One is whether the candidate is making slurs.
The other is whether the police are preventing a political candidate from distributing approved electoral pamphlets.
The first would normally be a case for the media, the party and potentially the police if it constituted a crime.
The second is incredibly serious and undermines democratic process. The police should not be involving themselves in elections. And yes, this applies to all candidates whether we like them or not.
If there was a 'trans rights party' and the police threatened their candidates for handing out approved leaflets, then finally a TRA and I would have something to agree on. It would be completely unacceptable.
The police have no place trying to prevent political candidates carrying out legal campaigning. None.
