Just let women speak

Still trying to silence women.

It won't work, lads.

You can try and shame us and smear us and tick us off. You can threaten us and abuse us and try to intimidate us. Sirens and smoke bombs and scoldings.

It doesn't work.

We won't wheesht.

JK Rowling won't 'pipe down'.

KJK won't be quiet.

Rosie Duffield won't be quiet.

None of us are going anywhere, and the more you attack us and try to stop women from speaking, the more clearly you reveal your own misogyny.

Well done to the brave women standing calmly in the face of all that aggressive noisemaking and continuing to speak.

What the actual fuck, shocking, disgusting, I mean I know this shit goes on but fucking hell, that was next level, watching all that was disturbing & traumatic, so bloody dark, why are the police not arresting them? Why is it not headline news?

As bad as this is, you should see the footage from Auckland to see how much worse it can get.

as a thought experiment, how would it be if women dressed like that (without the flags) and heckled a Pride event? What do you think the police would do?

Perhaps the Plod could think about that once or twice.

Wistfullythinking · 24/06/2024 11:40

Retired copper friend has just informed me that it's not legal for the public to have those sirens, but it it is possible to obtain them. The police there were allowing them though.

Pancakefam · 24/06/2024 11:51

I've read similar recently from a group of Jewish people peacefully protesting in Brighton, so I don't think the problem is specific to women, although the aggressors were certainly male in both cases. It sounds like the police need to step up.

I should think there's a big crossover between the people who harrass gender critical people and those that harrass Jewish people. Certainly Antifa will be present at both.

Women wouldn't even need to be that extreme to feel the full force of the police. We sadly remember the peaceful Sarah Everard vigils and the over the top heavy handed policing dealt to women. Disgraceful.

What makes me sad amongst all this is that the most vulnerable , poor and marginalised don't get a voice - vocal usually white middle class women always the one protesting for their rights and freedoms

The LWS events are for all women and many women from the backgrounds you mention not only attend their events but also speak at them.

It only affects women 🤯
You’d be surprised how many women think this is a non issue……it’s a disgrace!

I think a lot of women are in denial, I mean it’s brain melt stuff, through the looking glass isn’t it. I think women are resigned to nothing ever changing so no point in doing or feeling anything, I mean we’re not allowed to feel are we? There will be feelings of powerless, it can be incredibly triggering seeing all this play out, women who have experienced traumas will be still working through them, terrified & stuck in freeze or fawn response, unable to move forward, trapped by their past, feeling hopeless, just trying to survive (this is my experience, unfortunately I believe many others will be able to relate to it).

I’ve been watching this stuff from the sidelines for a very long time now, I mean I’m not surprised by this, I’ve already seen many other disgusting videos over the years of the TRAs scumbags attacking women going back to the speakers corner incident. Brighton though has made me feel incredibly depressed & angry, I was imagining myself being there, how I would feel, ashamed that I can’t do something as I wouldn’t be able to cope with it all but then none of this should be happening. I am in awe & so very grateful of the incredibly brave & powerful women who are out there fighting for us all, how they managed all that yesterday I just don’t know how they do it.

UK politicians, mainstream media & journalists should be holding their heads in shame letting this carry on like it is. Starmer & Labour can fucking whistle for my vote, that’s me decided now I can’t in all conscience vote for a party who are responsible for setting this juggernaut on course.

I’ve see it, I’ve been watching since speakers corner, it’s just very sad, when does it end?

Yes and many women are still not speaking up out of fear. So others are speaking for them.

I admit I would feel very fearful at a LWS event, and admire the bravery of the women who go.

Ramblingnamechanger · 24/06/2024 12:42

I feel sick seeing the women who are part of the mob bullying women. What is going on in their heads? Apart from pandering to men and getting approval of course. Interesting that in Madrid there was literally NO opposition to Let Women Speak. It was really refreshing to be able to hear women speak.

Erm...anyone can go to these and speak.

The whole thing is full of working class women talking, there isn't some sort of prority list. You could go if you want.

ArabellaScott · 24/06/2024 15:36

Seems Unite were part of the group harassing and intimidating women.

And what is the problem with "vocal white middle-class women" who speak up for women's rights? They are often speaking up for those who cannot. Safe Schools Alliance is probably run by mostly "white middle class women" speaking up for safeguarding children in schools; Keep Prisons Singe Sex is probably run by mostly "white middle class women" speaking up for women in prison.

And so on.

It's often "white middle class women" who have the resources - time, money, confidence - to speak up for the rights of all women.

The arrogance ! Because you're not me, you don't have my lived experience. I rather speak for myself but we're still struggling getting through the glass door let alone being able to reach the glass ceiling

You don't advocate for the diversity of all women, what would be more welcoming is allowing more
Platforms in jobs , education and across sectors that encompass the diverse female
Experience but we're a long way from that due to being shut down and issues of institutional racism - my issue with feminism in the way described in this thread doesn't speak for the marginalised
Nor does this incumbent government,
A lot of white women are part of the white privilege and they continue perpetuating the myth that their feminism speaks to my feminism - it never will

So go along yourself and speak.

Not this forum but I've spoken to my own networks on issues that affect my community when I speak on those (I've tried in my previous corporate role), i
Was denied a platform
By bosses -
All senior white and female

I actually was given more of a voice from my male peers on issues of inequality. There seems to be something about certain women who find it tough looking in the mirrror - they were fine when white women had the platform and criticism was of men but when I suggested they too present issues of subconscious bias etc (to me and other black and Asian women), the tables turned and platforms taken away and doors closed

Feminism it seems is only for the few privileged . I continue speaking but only in safe spaces

Brighton Argus has finally reported on what happened. Completely underplays the harassment. Includes self satisfied statement from the police:

We are discussing speaking at Let Women Speak events. As far as I'm aware, any woman can speak at those. Well, unless they are silenced by TRAs.

Any woman can speak at these events.
They were asking anyone who wants to speak to speak
No one would stop you from having a voice if you go along.

I have no idea why you think a woman's voice doesn’t speak for all woman except for those women who’d rather live under the misogyny of men. In which case then that’s what they currently have.

You post is very discriminatory, there’s nothing white privileged or marginalised about ‘Let Women Speak’. It’s giving a voice to all women.
