I am getting angrier and angrier with Starmer, why can he not see that the toxicity is one side only, how can he not see the intimidation, why does he keep avoiding that rational debate that he keeps talking about but not actually having, if they are the 'party for women' - why has Labour Women's Declaration not been invited back into the fold, how is he so confident that he will solve this, even his manifesto is in bloody conflict!
I am so fed up of politicians not giving a shit about women and the issues that matter to us. Apart from being over half of the population, we are often at the blunt end of poor policy decisions. Women are often the ones that have to juggle child care and work, manage household finances, navigate the NHS (for all of our family), navigate the education system, navigate the benefits system, care for elderly relatives (imagine the cost to the Government if we withdrew that unpaid work).
And at the end of all that caring for others, we are penalised through the gender-pay gap, our pensions are lower (because we were too busy looking after everyone else), our careers didn't reach the heights they should have (too busy looking after everyone else) and now we face the prospect of not being defined in law, because...anyone can be a legal woman.
If we weren't so worried about everyone else, we'd have burnt it all down by now.
And FFS women's rights are not a single issue, they underpin every facet of our existence in a civil society and I'm not ready to give them up. That airplane instruction about putting your own oxygen mask on first springs to mind.
It's time to demand more. We've come so far in recent years raising awareness, fighting court cases, but I think the fight of our lives is still yet to come.
