heldinadream · 18/06/2024 09:12

Today's WH is as follows - Woman's Hour Election Debate. In a special extended 90 minute programme, Nuala McGovern hosts the Woman's Hour Election Debate. Senior women from the main political parties of Great Britain outline their priorities for women and answer your questions. Taking part are: Scottish National Party spokesperson for Consular Affairs and International Engagement Hannah Bardell; Reform UK candidate Maria Bowtell; Green Party spokesperson for Housing and Communities Ellie Chowns; Deputy Leader of the Liberal Democrats Daisy Cooper; Conservative Minister of State for Disabled People, Health and Work Mims Davies; Labour Party Chair and Shadow Secretary for Women and Equalities Anneliese Dodds, and Plaid Cymru’s Westminster Leader Liz Saville Roberts.

Questions via text 84844 or WhatsApp - 03700100444

I intend to send something like the following - Given that you are all designated senior women politicians, speaking as such on Woman's Hour, can we possibly decide an answer to the question - What is a woman?

Send in yours!

I might start daytime drinking

TigathaChristie · 18/06/2024 10:37

What really pissed me off was the way they ignored women so comprehensively (apart from Reform).

Quite a feat given they are all women, and are on Woman's Hour.

I suspect their brains are hurting. I hope so!!

WarriorN · 18/06/2024 10:38

What's REALLY pissed me off is where is the party of women?!

Though the women's equality party is also absent.

That would have been fun!

Hepwo · 18/06/2024 10:40

I'm not sure why anyone would expect anything else. Liberal women are completely in thrall to men's sexual rights. They are completely without boundaries themselves and just want to blame the resultant sleazy society on the very men they facilitate.

This is exactly how I feel! How can they not hear themselves?!

Do women exist to them at all?! When they look in the mirror, do they see no reflection?!

Am sad to say that the thought of voting Reform has now fleetingly crossed my mind. I am in deep shock as am quite a lefty liberal in normal times. This debate has cemented in my mind that these are not normal times.

And while I am on a roll, I am deeply offended and downright angry at the way they suggest that these issues are just too much for our little lady brains to compute. Their misogyny is showing.

GC5 · 18/06/2024 10:45

BionicBadger · 18/06/2024 10:16

they Should rename this Trans Hour rather than Woman’s Hour. Only Rwform seem to give a monkeys about women.

What a ridiculous view. If Reform “gave a monkeys about women” they wouldn’t be proposing to scrap the Equality Act or the HRA, or withdrawal from the European Convention on Human Rights.

It is foolish, frankly, not to look at the manifestos in the round to see if they harm or support women, if that is a key concern.

Don't vote for them if you disagree with most of their policies! I'm closer to not voting now, although I know that's not ideal. I'm autistic and find lies/false facts really difficult to deal with, so can't bring myself to vote for a party that lies about something so obvious. It's painful.

AlwaysTawnyOwl · 18/06/2024 10:48

Dear God. There is only one answer to “Will you implement the recommendations of the most comprehensive review of treatment of gender dysphoric children ever undertaken over 4 years by a team led by one of the UKs most eminent paediatricians?”

Anything other than a firm “yes” means you prefer ideology over evidence based care for children

BionicBadger · 18/06/2024 10:49

Did you listen to the broadcast @GC5? of course manifestos matter, as do interviews with representatives heard by millions of voters. Which is what this thread is in fact about.

Also I don’t care if you think my view is ridiculous. I think you are a rude arse.

DanceTheDevilBackIntoHisHole · 18/06/2024 10:50

Reform may have sounded they were talking sense on this issue but having decided they know what a woman is, they seem to also believe that women should have more children and stay at home to look after them.

So only vote reform of you agree with those policies too!

What?? Huge swathes of the GC movement is made up of liberal/left wing/socialist women. That’s why so many (including me) say they feel politically homeless.

TigathaChristie · 18/06/2024 10:50

@WhatANiceNewWord - I won't vote for Reform unless hell freezes over and like you will probably not vote at all which doesn't sit well with me as I am mid 50s and have always voted. But I cannot in all good conscience vote for any of these people.

They are now talking about VAWG but bet your bottom dollar they don't link back to what they mean by which "women" they are talking about.

How the hell do they compartmentalise these issues? Are they really this thick?

I did listen, yes. And I maintain suggesting that Reform give a monkeys about women is ridiculous. Their policies (which thankfully they will never gain sufficient power to enact) are an utter disaster for women.

I was thinking the same. Who do they mean when they say women, girls, children, male violence? The SNP candidate must be so confused, poor thing, since biology has no bearing on identity. 😅

TigathaChristie · 18/06/2024 10:53

Daisy Cooper making misogyny a hate crime. Lol - Physician heal thyself springs to mind!

But not apparently any of the liberal women politicians on Women's Hour to talk about women. They are your elected representatives.

BringMeSunshineAllDayLong · 18/06/2024 10:55

Well it's a lot better debate than it was in 2019. Reform woman was so I articulate I couldn't listen to her and she failed to make the case. Given they only have about 5 policies it's slightly worrying.

Labour thank god have moved on and actually used Adult Female. Fuck me, that would have not happened last time. Given how middle of the road Labour are being in everything it's good to know that this is now considered middle of the road.

I've been reading manifestos and Reform has some quite refreshing clarity about protecting women's rights and child safeguarding in schools.

Well according to the WH discussion that we’ve all just listened to, and upon which this discussion is based, the Reform candidate was the only one who gave much of a shit about, or even mentioned the word, woman.

Start your own thread about manifestos, and shut up with your whataboutery. That WH performance was an absolute shit show and you know it.

It's strange how they all trot out the "I have friends who are trans" line. Never "I have friends who are women."

Almost everything the Reform candidate has said since that opening question has horrified me personally. I don't believe they support women AT ALL. I think they want women barefoot and pregnant in the home. She's pretty much said as much (except the barefoot bit).

TigathaChristie · 18/06/2024 11:00

Nuala - what about the men? Ooh why doesn't she ask what a man is? And what about the ones that wear dresses or pink leggings?

crumpet · 18/06/2024 11:00

These were women. On Woman’s Hour. Asked a question about women. But talked about trans instead.

It just feels like it can't be real, that this is the opening for some dystopian novel but this is the reality we have.
