heldinadream · 18/06/2024 09:12

Today's WH is as follows - Woman's Hour Election Debate. In a special extended 90 minute programme, Nuala McGovern hosts the Woman's Hour Election Debate. Senior women from the main political parties of Great Britain outline their priorities for women and answer your questions. Taking part are: Scottish National Party spokesperson for Consular Affairs and International Engagement Hannah Bardell; Reform UK candidate Maria Bowtell; Green Party spokesperson for Housing and Communities Ellie Chowns; Deputy Leader of the Liberal Democrats Daisy Cooper; Conservative Minister of State for Disabled People, Health and Work Mims Davies; Labour Party Chair and Shadow Secretary for Women and Equalities Anneliese Dodds, and Plaid Cymru’s Westminster Leader Liz Saville Roberts.

Questions via text 84844 or WhatsApp - 03700100444

I intend to send something like the following - Given that you are all designated senior women politicians, speaking as such on Woman's Hour, can we possibly decide an answer to the question - What is a woman?

Send in yours!

OMG where do these idiots come from.
Did you notice that the Reform woman - talking about biological reality - was talked over by the host

DangerFrog · 18/06/2024 10:16

TigathaChristie · 18/06/2024 10:11

SNP didn't answer the question AT ALL!

Hannah Bardell is an idiot and a fully paid-up Sturgeon-ite trans-maiden. She'll have identified as having answered the question. x.com/HannahB4LiviMP/status/1619021257051365377

TigathaChristie · 18/06/2024 10:16

Green - not an issue. Compassion- but only for Trans!! No mention of Compassion for women.

Polarisation blah blah blah.

Greens - born as a woman.

BionicBadger · 18/06/2024 10:16

they Should rename this Trans Hour rather than Woman’s Hour. Only Rwform seem to give a monkeys about women.

123ZYX · 18/06/2024 10:17

SNP paraphrased - debate is harmful to lgbt community and society. Defining by body parts means lost grip on humanity. Debate to be had about prisons, women's spaces. Has to respect everyone's rights. Lots of trans constituents who feel under attack. Didn't ask for their identity or humanity to be put up for debate. Want to pass legislation to give greater dignity to trans people. Blocked by Westminster in Scotland. Debate funded by right wing evangelicals in US. Wedge issue to split liberal left. Some in labour and conservatives have used it to distract from pressing issues in society. Used trans people and identities as political football will look back and be ashamed. She is queer woman.

Only mention of women was when she identified herself as a queer woman

Upsidetriangle · 18/06/2024 10:17

Listen to how women are just ignored by these people!

And as for, women’s rights and trans rights are not in conflict. Well how? People saying this, give details, how do you reconcile them?

when they say people, they don’t mean women at all, so they?

These replies really make clear that women are not really seen as people, are they?

BionicBadger · 18/06/2024 10:17

Adult Human Female! FFS!

PondFloater · 18/06/2024 10:17

not answering the question - immediately banging on about trans
aaaaaaaargh

WarriorN · 18/06/2024 10:18

Oh god my blood pressure can't take this. I'm going to listen later on.

TigathaChristie · 18/06/2024 10:18

@BionicBadger - yes absofuckinglutely!!

They have all started on about Trans - this wasn't the question.

My chances of voting are getting even lower listening to this.

DanceTheDevilBackIntoHisHole · 18/06/2024 10:18

None of them have answered the question. They've talked about women's spaces and rights but no actual answer.

TigathaChristie · 18/06/2024 10:19

Christ on a bike - never thought I would find myself aligning with Reform.

Redshoeblueshoe · 18/06/2024 10:19

I've only just tuned in, I'm already as the stage that I want to bash my head against the wall

DanceTheDevilBackIntoHisHole · 18/06/2024 10:20

Labour want legislation to 'be kind'. Good grief.

WarriorN · 18/06/2024 10:20

I've not turned off yet but thank god for Mims Davies

TigathaChristie · 18/06/2024 10:21

Love the way they're all trying to minimise- most people aren't bothered, everything's grand, nothing to see here.

Fucking MUPPETS!!!

WarriorN · 18/06/2024 10:22

What? Who said adult female? What that Labour ??

Nightingalenight · 18/06/2024 10:22

It's emblematic of how the aggressive Trans rights lobby has colonised spaces - this is Woman's Hour and yet the marginalised community being centred is the Trans one. The speakers towards the end realised this but they were all pretty poor in terms of rhetoric.

Redshoeblueshoe · 18/06/2024 10:22

How does she explain Isla Bryson then ?

BionicBadger · 18/06/2024 10:23

I haven’t heard anyone say it. Maybe I missed it amongst all the smoke mirrors avoidance and bullshit. Aaaaaargh.

DanceTheDevilBackIntoHisHole · 18/06/2024 10:23

WarriorN · 18/06/2024 10:22

What? Who said adult female? What that Labour ??

Yep. Labour

123ZYX · 18/06/2024 10:23

Both paraphrased:

Reform - biology is biology. Doesn't mean don't value humans based on what they wear what surgery. Science focus. Wants safe space for girls in school (in toilets)

Lib Dem - vast majority identify with sex at birth. Very small number - not the case. Also deserve respect and dignity. Equality act since 2010. Works well. Protects women, trans women, people with protected characteristics. Provisions for single sex spaces. Provision to exclude men and trans people when legitimate proportional goal. In feel inadequate guidance, can be given. Can't legislate for every scenario. I'd change equality act might clarify some things but might cause confusion in others. Exemptions exist, work well. Small number of people identify as trans and deserve respect. Live and let live. Toxic debate. No conflict between women's and trans rights.

WarriorN · 18/06/2024 10:23

Sarah jones Labour - 'women are an adult female'

'Have a sensible conversation about where there are issues'

TigathaChristie · 18/06/2024 10:23

Now SNP "folk don't care". She's an absolute TRA isn't she.

BionicBadger · 18/06/2024 10:24

Ah ok thanks
