Does the POW have a position on women's economic inequalities?

I would have thought it essential to first define what a woman is.

Likesomemorecash · 16/06/2024 12:03

I think that's something the POW is quite clear about, isn't it?

Likesomemorecash · 16/06/2024 12:13

I started watching the video that Iwanttoretire posted, but didn't get much further than KJK's mockery of Bristol Women's Voice.

I think KJK might have a better chance of being taken seriously by organisations like Bristol Women's Voice if she actually engaged with the issues they're campaigning on like supporting marginalised women living in poverty, a health project for Bangladeshi women, supporting disabled women, valuing the caring economy and so on rather than taking the piss out of them.

Just a thought.

Sausagenbacon · 16/06/2024 14:49

Oh, I quite enjoy her taking the piss.

Sausagenbacon · 16/06/2024 14:50

In the end, all their good work is ring-fenced by having to buy into twaw

Likesomemorecash · 16/06/2024 15:16

Where do you get that from? All their messaging is very clearly about women.

If taking the piss is the modus operandus of POW, it's not surprising that they're not seen as relevant to serious political discussions tbh.

I think KJK might be taken seriously by everyone if she engaged with the above mentioned issues and dropped the "trans=bad" stuff. As a bonus, Nazis would lose interest in her rallies and NZ would be happy to welcome her in.

But for some reason, for the current era trans people seem to be the hot topic and the scapegoat group of people to blame for everything wrong with society.

Sausagenbacon · 16/06/2024 15:21

Check out the posts at the beginning of the thread. Are they incorrect?
BWV don't stand for me and yet (unsurprisingly) they get funding from the Council.

Sausagenbacon · 16/06/2024 15:23

I don't believe that she does that.
What she DOES say is that women are women.
Which I don't believe BWV does.
And congratulations for dropping in the obligatory Nazi reference.

their position is TW are also women so by their own definition, their work on women also includes men

as they’re funded by Bristol city council I expect it’s a condition of their funding

Trans+ Inclusion | Bristol Women's Voice

Our position will always be informed by our organisational mission, our members, and the reality of women’s lived experiences.

Likesomemorecash · 16/06/2024 16:11

Thanks, I hadn't seen that. Yes, it will be to do with funding. That's a line some people (including me) choose to tread. Tread carefully in order to keep moving forward.

I would say that POW/KJK is pretty anti-trans tbh. A lot of her outputs are very transphobic. Her recent video advising employers not to employ gender-confused women who have had a mastectomy was extremely transphobic.

ThunderQween · 16/06/2024 16:12

CassieMaddox · 15/06/2024 22:37

It's a Q and A type event with electoral candidates so the electors can get to see and hear from them.
A bit like a local version of Question Time.

Ah thanks!

IwantToRetire · 16/06/2024 19:31

So many posters just not getting the irony of the situation.

This is a group (as mentioned up thread) funded by Bristol Council, who were instrumental in getting some gender critical women banned from the Council funded IWD event, yet by their name say they are by and for women in Bristol.

And now t the group has gone out of its way to arrange a meeting that they have predetermined what women should be allowed to talk about, and which candidates they should hear from.

This is like being back in the 19th century when the Lady from the manor would do good works among the poor and illiterate and decide what they should or should not know.

The idea that women in Bristol are so unable to understand the scope of politics that it has to be dumbed down into bite size pieces for them is at the same time both insulting and hilarious.

Someone up thread implied I was stamping my feet.

Far from it, this thread has become like some dumb comedy.

And even though in fact I am not her greatest fan, another living example of just how frightened the female handmaids of the left are of KJK that they have contrived this frankly embarrassing faux execise in democracy, just to be able to claim it is "legitimate" to exclude PoW.

I dont think I have laughed so much on a thread since I dont know when.

Why would anyone want to support a group of women who are making themselves idiots, but worst of all giving the world at large the impression that "feminists" are just left cheer leaders?

But yet again, by their foot in mouth actions, they have given KJK another political win. Grin

Who wants to take a bet on there being a video of them trying to ban KJK from being in the audience?

OP posts:
Likesomemorecash · 16/06/2024 20:09

I'd suggest that it's quite likely that they've decided just to platform the four main parties. Whether you like it or not, that is a perfectly democratic way to run hustings, which are just a part of an overall political campaign.

I also think if the POW had something to say about women's economic inequalities, it would make more sense for them to have been invited.

Likesomemorecash · 16/06/2024 20:11

I'm sure KJK would love that viz a viz Julia Long and one of the Big Four.

Unfortunately, it won't do much for women's economic inequalities in Brighton, or anywhere else.

Sausagenbacon · 16/06/2024 20:21

I totally agree with IwantToRetires post above.

How can anyone claim to be working on Women's economic equalities when they classify woman as meaning anything at all.
Bonkers.

No, they didn't want her there because they disagree with her views. They told her that was why. She says this in her video.

This one, not the one in the OP.

Are @BristolWV interfering with an election? And Fear and disgust in intuition central…… #POW …

That's an excellent analogy.

teawamutu · 14/06/2024 16:31

Bristol really is the Brighton of the West Country, isn't it?

God yes. It's bloody awful.

Likesomemorecash · 17/06/2024 00:27

Except it's not, is it? BVW are a small, grassroots organisation who are organising a hustings.

There are many other places and forums that women in Bristol can find out about local candidates, the local issues they campaign on and so on.

KJK looks to be organising her own hustings btw.

IwantToRetire · 25/06/2024 19:14

Have just seen that the Labour Party has not confirmed they are taking part! Grin

No confirmed candidates for Labour Party yet.
MPs from the four main parties have been invited.
Please kindly note, we will not be discussing: NHS, women's health, policing and crime or other topics that do not fall within women's economic inequalities.
Organised in collaboration with the Women in Business Charter.

Someone who went to the meeting yesterday wrote this on facebook:

The Women's Voice Hustings in Bristol which happened last night.

Thangam Debonnaire and Karla Denyer failed to show.

They also didn't bother to appear at the Deaf and Disabled People's Hustings last week.

KJK appeared, and was banned from speaking. When she attempted to hand out excellent Party of Women leaflets she was accused of handing out fascist propaganda by one woman and there was a sudden rule made in the hall that leaflets could not be distributed.

Note: these are the official Party of Women leaflets distributed by the candidates.

Free speech and feminist principles have disappeared from Bristol, home of Greens and Labour.

Women's Voice Hustings? And a woman banned from speaking or giving out leaflets? What then is the point of these hustings?

Its a bit like Aunt Lydia - teaching women how to be grateful Handmaids.
