Oh dear it seems that the general public has started to wake up to the dangers of allowing men to falsify their birth certificate

Support for people's ability to change sex on birth certificate falls https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13519601/public-support-transgender-change-sex-birth-certificate.html?ito=native_share_article-nativemenubutton

Support for people's ability to change sex on birth certificate falls

Just 24 per cent of people now agree that trans people should be allowed to change their sex 'if they want' - compared to support levels of 58 per cent in 2016.

Good, hopefully they will get changed back.

ArabellaScott · 12/06/2024 06:56

Comments are good. Matter of fact and no 'hate', just acknowledging that sex is immutable.

I think people have had enough, and I hope Labour are listening.

domineastronomy · 12/06/2024 07:04

Surely this has to come out in a debate.
Each party must state its views on gender to the wider public.
I know many politicians want to ignore the issues but ffs!

Floisme · 12/06/2024 07:21

You know what, it's embarrassing to admit this cos I've been following FWR since about 2016, but I only realised quite recently that the GRC really does change your actual birth certificate, and my jaw hit the floor.

I'd heard people talk about it of course but i'd always thought it was such a bonkers idea that they couldn't possibly mean it literally.

Imnobody4 · 12/06/2024 07:35

So how's KS going to get round this when he does his consultation?

Toseland · 12/06/2024 07:39

That you can change an unchangeable document and also disrupt the census shows just how powerful the people behind this agenda are.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 12/06/2024 07:41

Imnobody4 · 12/06/2024 07:35

So how's KS going to get round this when he does his consultation?

i expect if it doesn’t say what he wants it too in either direction, he’ll ignore it if it suits his purposes to do so

PronounssheRa · 12/06/2024 07:46

Really interesting timing, as parties publish their GE manifesto we can see how far out of step they are with public opinion

the GRC really does change your actual birth certificate, and my jaw hit the floor.

It's madness isn't it being able to officially falsify a document. Birth certificates record sex but this can be changed to reflect an internal sense of gender

MrsOvertonsWindow · 12/06/2024 07:46

Yup. Pushing a lie at the public - that people can magically change sex and that mentally vulnerable children should have life changing drugs and brutal surgery to fix their wrong bodies was never going to be sustainable.

It would be good if politicians pushing this dangerous stuff could wake up before they find themselves explaining their actions to an appalled public enquiry in a decade plus.

mrshoho · 12/06/2024 07:56

Good. A combination of the Isla Brysons of this world, the terrible detransitioner cases, the abhorrent drag queen story hour, the batshit demands that ordinary people must start using ridiculous pronouns for no benefit other than making certain people feel comfortable, the unjust treatment of women who objected, etc etc etc is working.

Hoardasurass · 12/06/2024 07:58

Imnobody4 · 12/06/2024 07:35

So how's KS going to get round this when he does his consultation?

My guess is he'll do what the SNP did run another 2 consultations and refuse to publish the results yet claim that they back your changes, when infact 2/3 are against it and push on with the changes anyway

In my home state in Australia, not only can you legally falsify your birth certificate from the age of 16 (and parents can for their children under 16), but you can change it once every 12 months….

Thelnebriati · 12/06/2024 11:20

The new birth certificate is the reason why the spousal exit clause exits - it erased the persons old identity.

''Just 24 per cent of people now agree that trans people should be allowed to change their sex 'if they want' – compared to support levels of 58 per cent in 2016.
The results have emerged as part of the British Social Attitudes report, carried out annually by the National Centre for Social Research.''

Thats a heck of a drop.

motheronthedancefloor · 12/06/2024 11:29

Its so frustrating that the question of 'what is a woman' has not been asked of any of the leaders in the debates or otherwise.

CrossPurposes · 12/06/2024 11:42

Here's a link to a page with a link to the original report. I'll let more expressive women have a go at "the incoming administration may therefore be faced with an ongoing tension between an increasingly open and accepting society on the one hand and an apparent resistance to the advancement of transgender rights on the other."

In this edition of our flagship British Social Attitudes, we assess what impact the last five years has had on the landscape of public attitudes.

Gettingmadderallthetime · 12/06/2024 12:00

@CrossPurposes Not yet read this No 41 report but looking at that quote. I feel that the word 'resistance' suggest that people have not moved their position (perhaps not wanting to change). This report appears to show that people are very much wanting to change and not simply staying stuck (though ignorance/apathy/etc). Slight but significant suggested changes in bold.

"the incoming administration may therefore be faced with an ongoing tension between an increasingly open and accepting society on the one hand and an apparent escalating, accelerated and evidence-based resistance to the advancement of transgender rights on the other."

Ereshkigalangcleg · 12/06/2024 12:05

You're right, they should at least point out in this dishonest framing that it's an increasing resistance to "trans rights", or the sentence doesn't make much sense, because surely on their terms it isn't "an increasingly open and accepting society" then?

JeannieDark · 12/06/2024 12:18

I'm so sick of opposition to men in women's single sex spaces, medical experimentation on children and compelled speech being labelled as 'illiberal'. FFS.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 12/06/2024 12:50

Do they bother to define what rights it is trans ppl don’t have compared to the rest of us?

or is it the usual ‘everyone is a big meanie for not thinking self id is great and refusing to deny reality’?

Because saying out loud "the right to force everyone to pretend" would be too revealing

I see wordclouds ...

The Scotgov does an immense number of consultations, most of which are just time wasting tick box exercises.

cheezncrackers · 12/06/2024 12:58

I've always been utterly flabbergasted that you can change your birth certificate to say you were BORN the sex you clearly and observably were not. It's one thing to change your gender as an adult and get a gender recognition certificate, quite another to change formal identity documents such as your birth certificate and passport, which is literally formalising a lie.

DoreenonTill8 · 12/06/2024 13:16

The support for this is so strange, can we change other certificates? Who a child's parent is?.. oh wait they want that too..
My degree certificate? I've always felt it should be a law degree or maybe medicine?. Wheres the need for divorce if we just change the marriage cert and say it didn't happen?
