Written by the sports writer who wrote several comments in the Times over the years supporting transwomen in female sports, so no surprise there is no challenge (that I can see) to Izzard's bletherings:

Eddie Izzard: ‘Trans people going back in a shell? Won’t happen’

Eddie Izzard (also answers to Suzy) has migrated from stand-up comedy to serious acting, with solo performances of Great Expectations and Hamlet. But the role the 62-year-old really wants is to be the first trans member of parliament. Interview by Mart...

Ah, whatever happened to the old Eddie? You know, Eddie the transvestite, anyone remember him? In fact where did all the men go who got a kick out of wearing women's clothes? It's a puzzle...

Well if anyone sees him, let me know. Because he was fucking funny in the 90s and a bit of a hero of mine for pushing the boundaries of masculinity. Now…not so much. On either count.

I was 17 or 18. He was in a play in the West End, and I went to the stage door to meet him. He barely contained his contempt, and just wasn't that happy to see me, from what I could tell.

Were you both wearing the same frock?

<wonders if people still say "frock">. 🤔

🤣🤣

Weirdly (or not) he was in jeans and a shirt. I may well have been too though, actually. 🤔🤔🤔

Although you probably shouldn’t say. You might get a ban.

misscockerspaniel · 26/05/2024 17:52

Someone complained and the post was taken down. I think it was believed to be a derogatory term when used in connection with transwomen, although I did point out that priests wore frocks.

Exactly . It is telling that Eddie doesn’t realise this, and also telling that it hasn’t occurred to him that if by some mischance of us stepping momentarily into a parallel universe, he was elected to Parliament, then he would immediately be making it clear to 50% of his electorate that their views, safety and wellbeing were no concern of his.

I imagine that at least some of the women on the selection panel, even a Labour Party selection panel, would have felt uncomfortable with his views, which is perhaps why he wasn’t selected.

It is telling that Eddie doesn’t realise this

Oh, he realises it.

They ALL realise it,

I’m saying YOU think any “biologically born” man identifying as female must all potentially be predators. Specifically in this case you are discussing on here, Eddie Izzard. Otherwise what’s the problem?

That's how safeguarding works @FrogTheWarrior !

Safeguarding policies apply across the board. For the record I don't believe EI is sexually predatory. But I can't know that for a fact. EI himself can't prove that he's not. Therefore to safeguard women and children *all men, including those that identify as trans, shoukd not be in women's spaces such as toilets.

In fact - we know that not all men (non-trans-identifying) are predators either - but we still want them out of women spaces because of the small proportion who are.

Plus it isn't just for safety - privacy and dignity are important, too.

I got one deleted yesterday for "35000 lady dicks" which I guess was quite triggering for Steer Karma's number on Stan

PotholesAnonymous · 26/05/2024 19:02

In addition, safeguarding isn't just about keeping people safe, it's also about people feeling safe. If you don't feel safe then you're being put in a stressful situation.

The chance of men being in a changing room/a shower/a ward/a support group with our daughters, with us, makes us, women and girls, old and young, feel stressed and anxious.

It's therefore a safeguarding fail

I am absolutely loving Myra Hindley on the game. Someone give that man a medal for winning the Twitters.

I like the way that headline mixes up the pronouns. I know Eddie has said he she is fine with either being used but I think I too will start to use she for Eddie and he for Susie, because it really makes no difference , does it?

Fuck me, really?

I use the word “frock” all the time. It’s an old-fashioned word for “dress”. What can possibly be deletable about that?!

I think it was around the time we got thrown off feminist chat given our own board. Lang was still posting. TRAs were trying to get us all banned, successfully in some cases. I remember it because - touchwood - it is the only post that I have had deleted. And that is tempting fate. May be I should say my goodbyes!

(edited to say board not thread)

Possibly it was being used in a rhyming phrase where it was being worn by a male chicken?

lythander · 27/05/2024 05:04

Two words: widow twankey.

CormorantStrikesBack · 27/05/2024 06:37

Nice dress though…..anyone know where it’s from? 🙈😁

but yeah, the bloke is a self absorbed arse.

BezMills · 27/05/2024 06:41

He looks about average for a man in his early sixties who caught the sun a lot when he was younger.

Izzard really wants to be in politics. And he has so much to offer! In an interview with The Times on Saturday, he rattled off his personal qualities: “I have all this energy, I can analyse things, I can analyse systems, which is needed in politics, and I can communicate.” This does make him sound like an android that’s spent too long on charge, but maybe that’s what Labour is missing.

😂
